The Good
The 2019 Chevrolet Sonic offers a blend of practicality and fun. Its turbocharged engine provides decent performance, while its compact size makes it easy to maneuver in urban environments. It's fuel-efficient, appealing to practical buyers. The available MyLink infotainment system adds a touch of modern tech, increasing its appeal. Its affordable price point makes it an attractive value proposition.
The Bad
The 2019 Chevrolet Sonic's weaknesses include a less refined interior compared to some rivals and potential reliability concerns with the automatic transmission. The base engine can feel underpowered. Road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds. Potential buyers should inspect the transmission carefully and be aware of the somewhat dated interior design.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic Have?
Another area of concern can be coolant leaks, especially around the water pump and thermostat housing. These leaks can lead to overheating if not addressed promptly. The 1.4L turbo engine, while offering better performance, can be more prone to carbon buildup on the intake valves, potentially impacting performance and fuel economy over time.
Recalls have been issued for various reasons across the Sonic's production run, including issues with the airbags, seat belts, and fuel systems. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability can be improved with regular maintenance, especially fluid changes for the transmission and cooling system. Addressing any warning signs promptly can help prevent more significant and costly repairs down the road.
How long will the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited, especially on lower trims. Available features on higher trims, or as optional packages, include forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and rear park assist. These features enhance safety but are not standard across the board.
Safety features include ten airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and traction control.
The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally awarded the 2019 Sonic a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings vary; it's essential to check specific reports for the 2019 model year. While the Sonic provides a decent level of safety, more modern subcompacts offer a more comprehensive suite of standard driver-assistance technologies. The focus is primarily on essential safety features rather than advanced ones, reflecting its budget-friendly positioning.

Best Car I Ever Owned. I love everything about itThis is the second Chevrolet Sonic that I have owned. I only bought the newer 2019 vehicle because I just loved my 2016 model as well. I would like to find a 2020 in the future, as this was the last year of its manufacturing. I love all the features and how this wonderful vehicle operates and handles the road. It is reliable and good on gas, as well.

Love my 2019 Chevrolet Sonic LT as it so delivers.I love my 2019 Chevrolet Sonic LT/RS. I would not own any other car. I am saddened that it was discontinued, so very, very disappointed.

Good carBefore getting this 2019 Sonic Hatchback, I was driving a 2018 Sonic Sedan. I was hit by a drunk driver totalling the 2018 Sonic. Despite being hit at about 70+mph in the side, I am ok. This is why I went back to this make.

This Car Was Everything I Wanted In A VehicleWell, my Dodge Stratus was starting to go after 15 years, so I went into the dealership looking for a Chevrolet Spark (my work was able to get it priced at $10K with incentives.) The first dealership I stopped at didn't have any in stock, but they did have a Chevrolet Sonic in stock. I had a satisfactory test drive with it and, after test driving a Spark at another dealership, decided to purchase the Sonic. I am absolutely happy that I did. - I wanted a car manufactured in the US (I'm from Detroit, I can't help it.) This car was manufactured in Orion Township, Michigan. - I wanted a car to fit my drum set in. My Sonic RS Hatchback allowed me to fit my entire kit in the car (yes, I made a six-piece/nine-cymbal full-sized drum set fit into a vehicle that can park in the "Compact" spaces.) - I wanted a car that was going to have good fuel economy. This car can get 34 MPG Highway. - I wanted a car that was sporty. The turbo-boosted engine packs a punch and I wholly intend on having the performance package installed now that I've secured a promotion with my current employer. The compact size allows me to park it anywhere and the entertainment system gives me a wide variety of options (I can switch between AM, FM, SiriusXM, and Apple CarPlay with aplomb; I am never short on music selections when driving this vehicle.) For people with families, this car can act as its own WiFi hotspot, so the little ones can play with their tablets while the parents are driving. My only complaint with the car is how the cruise control feels - The button placement for that feels clunky. But that's it. Perhaps this isn't the best vehicle for an army of guys who are big and tall, but I have no complaints and am always comfortable when getting around. My only regret is not getting into one of these sooner, but I'm glad I finally have the car that I was meant to drive. I recommend the hatchback version to everyone.

Love the Fun colors and remote startI don't have a garage so remote start and heated seats were at the top of my list. I drove a few cars and I fell in love with the fun colors this one offered. I don't love the interior seat fabric and it's not as fast as my VW was, but for the size of the engine it works.

Great value for the moneyWell designed, great gas mileage in the city and on the highway, roomier than I thought it would be, good acceleration for a small car, and I love the color.
