What Problems Does the 2013 Lexus IS 350 Have?

The 2013 Lexus IS 350 generally enjoys excellent reliability. However, some frequently reported problems, though not widespread, include issues with the navigation system freezing or malfunctioning, particularly in early production models. Some owners have reported minor interior trim rattles or wear, especially on leather seats and dashboard components.

Check for proper maintenance records, as neglected servicing can lead to issues with the automatic transmission, particularly at higher mileages. Some owners report excessive oil consumption in the 2GR-FSE engine over time, though this is not a common issue. Regular oil changes with the correct viscosity are crucial to mitigate this risk.

While recalls are relatively rare for this model year, it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or performance. A thorough inspection of the vehicle, including a professional pre-purchase inspection, is highly recommended to identify any potential issues before buying.

How long will the 2013 Lexus IS 350 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2013 Lexus IS 350 can easily exceed 200,000 miles and provide well over 10 years of service. Regular oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor issues promptly are key. The engine and transmission are generally very durable. Long-term, potential weaknesses include wear on suspension components (bushings, shocks), and potential sensor failures (O2 sensors, mass airflow sensor). Preventative maintenance is crucial to maximizing lifespan. Keeping up with the recommended maintenance schedule is paramount.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Lexus IS 350 comes equipped with a range of technology and safety features. Standard features include a premium audio system, Bluetooth connectivity for phone calls and audio streaming, a multi-information display, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The infotainment system features a central display screen controlled by a joystick-like interface, which can feel dated compared to modern touchscreen systems.

Optional features include a navigation system with voice command, a rearview camera, and real-time traffic updates. A Mark Levinson premium surround-sound audio system provides enhanced audio quality. Driver-assistance features, available as options, include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and park assist.

Safety features include antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, front and rear side airbags, and side curtain airbags. The 2013 Lexus IS 350 received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and the NHTSA, providing reassurance for occupant safety. Specifically, it achieved an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars from NHTSA. Always verify ratings with the relevant agency as they may have changed since 2013.
