What Problems Does the 2008 Volkswagen GLI Have?
How long will the 2008 Volkswagen GLI last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features included a sunroof and upgraded audio systems. There weren't many driver-assistance packages available. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good for the 2008 Jetta (which the GLI is based on), providing reassurance regarding its structural integrity. However, it's important to check specific ratings for the 2008 model year and body style as ratings can vary. Modern standards have significantly advanced safety technology, so while it was adequate for its time, it lacks the advanced features of newer cars.

How Does the 2008 Volkswagen GLI Compare to Other Sedan?
Considering price, a used GLI can be attractive. However, if reliability is a top priority, a Honda Civic Si or Acura TSX might be better choices. The MazdaSpeed3 is an alternative for those prioritizing performance above all else. The Subaru WRX from the same era also offers similar performance capabilities, though with the added benefit of all-wheel drive, but it shares similar reliability concerns to the GLI. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities: reliability, performance, or features.

One of the most fun cars I drove.Contrary to what most people think of a VW, it was reliable, not expensive to maintain or fix, and it was an absolute blast to drive. If I wouldn't move to a place that gets snow, I probably would never sell it.

Best Car EverI have previously owned Subaru, Toyota, and Audi - this is the best of any as far as reliability, comfort, quiet ride, cost (not only of purchase but of maintenance). Can't say enough positive things about this vehicle

Perfect for anyoneThe interior is the best pick for this car. Amazing on gas mileage, I got up to 33.8 on highway. Very smooth ride.

It's good, just expensiveThis car has been great. However, the tires get worn out too quickly if not rotated more often. Also, beware having to get maintenance on it. It will cost a lot more than you would prefer because it is a Volkswagen.

I currently own a Volkswagen PassatThis car fits me well it has lots of leg room for me and I'm over 6 foot tall and plenty of trunk spaces and it looks so nice on the inside and out they mpg is pretty good as well it's a great family car

Lots of fun and full of nice tech tooI really love this car and wanted one for the last couple years. After test driving the 5-cyl Jettas, I realized I wanted the more powerful 2.0T engine. Then finally after driving a couple GLI's I knew this was the car I wanted. With its 200HP engine and 6-speed stick, not only am I enjoying my drive but I am getting around 32mpg most of the time. I am worried about the reliability of the engine and electrical systems. I hear that many of these cars have issues. I've been told most were fixed since 2008 so I feel a bit better. I had a 2000 Jetta before this and was told they had poor reliability issues but it lasted more than 17 years and only until last year that I knew I had to replace it. I'm hoping to have the same luck with this one too. Looking back, I wish I had test drove the DSG model just to see which model is better.
