The 2014 Nissan Quest is a minivan, part of the fourth generation (2011-2017). It offers a distinctive, boxy design prioritizing interior space. Key trims included S, SV, SL, and LE. New pricing ranged from around $26,000 to $43,000. Its standout feature was its comfortable ride and uniquely styled interior compared to more traditionally designed minivans. It's popular with families prioritizing space and comfort over sporty handling.
The Good

The 2014 Nissan Quest offers a smooth and comfortable ride thanks to its well-tuned suspension. Its spacious interior and comfortable seating appeal to families. The V6 engine provides adequate power. While not the most fuel-efficient, it offers decent mileage for its class. It represents a good value proposition on the used market for budget-conscious buyers.

The Bad

The 2014 Nissan Quest's main weaknesses include its polarizing exterior design. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) has been known to have issues, requiring potential repair or replacement. Some owners have reported electrical problems and issues with sliding door mechanisms. It's essential to get a pre-purchase inspection before buying.

Analysis

What Problems Does the 2014 Nissan Quest Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Nissan Quest often revolve around the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Some owners have experienced CVT failure requiring expensive repairs or replacement. Symptoms can include slipping, hesitation, and unusual noises. Electrical issues, such as problems with power windows, door locks, and the entertainment system, have also been reported.

Another common concern is the power sliding doors, with some owners experiencing malfunctions or failures of the opening/closing mechanisms. Recalls have been issued for various issues, including potential fuel leakage and problems with the occupant classification system, which could affect airbag deployment. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls.

Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the CVT's susceptibility to failure. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes, is crucial to prolong its life. Older models may also exhibit wear and tear on suspension components, leading to a less comfortable ride. Addressing any unusual noises or performance issues promptly can help prevent more significant problems down the line. Pre-purchase inspections are highly recommended.

How long will the 2014 Nissan Quest last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Nissan Quest can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or provide 10-15 years of service. However, the CVT is a significant factor in its longevity. Regular CVT fluid changes (more frequent than Nissan's recommendations) are crucial. Other potential weaknesses include suspension components wearing out over time, leading to a less smooth ride, and potential electrical gremlins affecting various systems. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt usage.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Nissan Quest offers a range of tech and safety features, varying by trim level. Standard features include antilock brakes, stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Higher trims offer additional features like a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Entertainment features include a standard CD player and auxiliary input on the base S trim. The SV trim adds Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. The SL trim includes a power liftgate and automatic headlights, while the top-of-the-line LE trim boasts a navigation system, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system with an 11-inch display.

Driver-assistance features are limited compared to newer vehicles, focusing mainly on safety rather than advanced driver aids. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2014 Quest a four-star overall safety rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave it good ratings in several crash tests but marginal in the small overlap front crash test. These ratings should be considered when evaluating the vehicle's safety performance.

2014 Nissan Quest Prices and Market Value

The 2014 Nissan Quest had a starting MSRP of around $26,000 for the base S trim, reaching up to $43,000 for the top-tier LE trim when new. Current used market prices range from approximately $7,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Quest has depreciated significantly, typical for minivans. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and the presence of desirable features like the rear-seat entertainment system. The CVT's reliability concerns can also negatively impact resale value.

2014 Nissan Quest Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2014 Nissan Quest are typically moderate, similar to other minivans. Fuel costs are average for its class. However, maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to potential CVT issues and electrical problems. Long-term ownership costs can be significant if the CVT requires replacement. Careful maintenance and proactive repairs are essential to keeping ownership costs reasonable. Due to the CVT concerns, it is not the most economical minivan to own in the long run.

Insurance for a 2014 Nissan Quest is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Minivan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Nissan Quest Compare to Other Minivan?

The 2014 Nissan Quest competes with minivans like the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Chrysler Town & Country. In terms of performance, the Quest's V6 engine is comparable, but its handling isn't as refined as the Odyssey or Sienna. Feature-wise, the Quest's LE trim offers comparable amenities, but its lower trims lack some features found in rivals. Reliability is a weak point for the Quest, particularly the CVT, while the Honda and Toyota are known for their superior reliability. Price-wise, the Quest can be more affordable on the used market, but this is often offset by potential repair costs.

Alternatives to the Quest include the Honda Odyssey, which offers better handling, a more spacious interior, and a stronger reputation for reliability. The Toyota Sienna is another excellent option, known for its dependability and available all-wheel drive. The Chrysler Town & Country (or its successor, the Chrysler Pacifica) can be more affordable, but its reliability is also a concern. For buyers prioritizing reliability and long-term value, the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna are generally better choices.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Nissan Quest a Good Minivan?

The 2014 Nissan Quest is ideal for budget-conscious families who prioritize space and a comfortable ride over sporty handling and long-term reliability. It's worth buying only under specific conditions: a thorough pre-purchase inspection is essential, focusing on the CVT's condition. Look for well-maintained examples with documented service history. The SL or LE trims offer desirable features, but the potential for CVT issues should be carefully considered. Given its age and potential for costly repairs, it's crucial to factor those expenses into the purchase decision. A warranty is highly recommended. If reliability is a top priority, exploring alternatives like the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna would be prudent.

245,000 miles

I still drive this vehicle with 245,000 miles. I purchased it new in 2014. It was the perfect vehicle up to 150,000 miles. I only did maintenance, & changed tires, battery, etc. After that everything electrical started to go. Transmission was replaced at about 240,000 miles. Now I’m getting an oil leak fixed from wear & tear. I would recommend keeping this vehicle up to 150,000 miles. Though the repairs are still less expensive than a car payment, I wouldn’t buy another with high mileage.

Not worth it at all

I own it and the transmission went out completely. I took it to several mechanics and they all told me that this car in particular and all of their cars as well are known for having transmission failure. It will cost me about 5k to replace the transmission while I’m still paying the car off. Not worth it. Not reliable at all!

Roomy and stylish

Just got this used so far so good it has one bad strut and it's hard to find the parts for this but overall everything else is in great condition. I'm a first-time mom and just felt like my Volvo truck didn't have enough room with the car seat. It's a smooth ride to be a van.

2014 Quest LE - 4 Years and 50,000 miles later...

Over the years, I've used cars.com routinely to search for new and used cars. Customer review has been a great source of information in making an informed decision. Hopefully, someone will benefit from our impressions of 2014 Quest LE over the last 50k. We've purchased this van locally in April of 2014. We also got an extended warranty for 7 years/100,000 miles. So far, the van has been reliable and we did not have to use the extended warranty. Overall, it has been a great, reliable and comfortable vehicle for the family. With any luck, Nissan engineers and designers may read this and use the review to make the Quest even better. Any complaints here are more of a "feedback" kind, and "first world problems." Also, some of the observations are in direct comparison to our 2007 Quest SE, which we liked very much (except for the miserable Michelin PAX tires). Gas mileage is not as good as the EPA rating. We get 16/23 routinely, and used to get 19/26 in our 2007 Quest. Same drivers, same routes, same load. It has not changed over the years, it's been like this from day one. OEM Toyo tires were dead after 14k miles. Dealer (Nissan of Cool Springs) did not care. It should not be of consequence to those looking for a good used vehicle, but still... Breaks work well, but one needs to REALLY step on them to get action. Also, pads wear off quickly, and we had to turn rotors at around 25k. I realize it's a heavy vehicle, but that seems a tad early. Grey leather stains easily and is very difficult to keep clean. Volume control is not linear; change from 3 to 4 notches on the display, for example, is SIGNIFICANT - from not being able to hear - to waking up sleeping children in the back. There is no safety (above the door) handle on the driver's side. iPod/iPhone connection is spotty. It works most of the time, but sometimes acts up for no apparent reason. Second row seat belts do not roll back and tend to dangle and get caught in a sliding door. If they don't get trapped by the door, they dangle on the floor and get noisy. Overall, we're happy with it and will keep it for several more years. It's comfortable, relatively quiet and looks like new inside and out. Materials and buttons are solid and pleasant to touch. DVD system and headphones have been flawless for the back seat passengers. Amount of storage, especially with third row seats down is amazing.
