What Problems Does the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Have?
While specific recall data for the 2012 R-Class should be checked with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database, general Mercedes-Benz recalls may apply to certain components. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the complexity of the vehicle's systems and the potential for expensive repairs. Proper maintenance and addressing issues promptly are crucial to maintaining its reliability. Earlier model years (2006-2007) had some additional issues with the balance shaft in the gasoline engine, but this was largely addressed in later years, though its always wise to have any used R-Class inspected.

2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Prices and Market Value
The R-Class has experienced significant depreciation due to its niche market position and higher maintenance costs associated with the Mercedes-Benz brand. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and the presence of desirable options like all-wheel drive and the BlueTEC diesel engine. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command a higher price.

How Does the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Compare to Other Vehicle?
The R-Class offered a unique blend of minivan practicality and luxury appointments. However, its reliability was not always as strong as some of its rivals, and maintenance costs were generally higher. In terms of price, the R-Class was positioned at the higher end of the spectrum when new, and even used models can command a premium compared to some competitors.
Alternatives to the R-Class might include a newer, more reliable minivan like the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna if practicality is the primary concern. For those seeking luxury and SUV capabilities, the Acura MDX or Lexus RX offer a better balance of reliability and features. The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class/GLS-Class is also a worthwhile consideration for those prioritizing the Mercedes-Benz brand.

Returned to the R classThe Mercedes R class is a unique vehicle. I bought on early in its production run and owned it for a few years before trading it. It was a great vehicle for hauling family, friends an loads of stuff between city and country in style and comfort. Recently purchased a 2012 when wife needed something to ferry her real estate clients around in. She hates SUVs. Maintains them can be expensive so do your homework!

Most comfortable fun car I’ve ownedI am the second owner of this, bought from a family member who had it serviced at the MB dealership all of its life. Other than the air ride failing, and being replaced prior to my ownership the only problem has been a leaky o ring on the p/s reservoir. It was a half hour fix, and with the fluid and o ring it was under 25.00! I’m absolutely thrilled with this crossover and take it out more than my other Benz, because it’s comfortable, all wheel drive, air ride, panoramic roof, the list goes on. Paddle shifters and AMG rims are the icing on the cake.

Size, Power, Economy! This is a one of a kind vehicle! Seats as many adults as a Suburban (7), yet sips less fuel than a Subaru, yet is a powerful, fun to drive all weather highway cruiser!

Nothing specialNothing special , it looks good but that's all, it's not good for city driving , and high maintenance

Unique VehicleOriginally owned a 2006 and then upgraded to 2012 model that included many, many little improvements. 2012 is by far the best year for these vehicles. There is no other full size 6-7 passenger car that is not a minivan or an oversized SUV.

I love this car!I have been looking to get one of these for a while now. Since they have been discontinued 2012, they are somewhat hard to find. Especially if you want a 2012 one. Anyhow, I believe this car looks slick, is great to drive, has ALL WHEEL DRIVE and a 3rd row. What more do you want fro a car that does not look like a minivan, ha ha. Overall, this car is totally worth the price, which is actually not that much. $20K for a car like this is awesome! Enough said.
