Analysis
What Problems Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Have?
Transmission problems, including rough shifting and failure, have been reported by some owners, though not as frequently as the air suspension issues. Recalls for the R-Class have addressed issues like fuel filter flange cracking and potential problems with the fuel pump relay.
Long-term reliability is a concern due to the complex nature of the vehicle and the potential for costly repairs. Earlier model years (2006-2007) may have more prevalent issues due to their age. Thorough maintenance records and pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic are crucial to identify potential problems before purchasing a used 2008 R-Class.
How long will the 2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class last?
Long-term durability is a concern due to the aforementioned air suspension, electrical, and oil leak problems. These issues can become more frequent and costly as the vehicle ages. Regular fluid changes, timely repairs, and careful attention to warning signs are essential to maximizing its lifespan. The R-Class requires proactive maintenance to avoid major failures.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited but included cruise control and optional parking sensors. Safety features included anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and multiple airbags, including front, side, and curtain airbags. Optional features included adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied. It generally performed well in frontal and side impact tests, earning good ratings. However, specific ratings should be verified for the 2008 model year on their respective websites, as ratings can change annually. The R-Class emphasized safety, but its technology was less advanced compared to modern vehicles.

2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Prices and Market Value
Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, service history, and any major repairs that have been performed. Models with lower mileage and a clean title command higher prices. The R63 AMG, due to its rarity and performance, tends to hold its value better than other trims.

How Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Regarding features, it matched its rivals with available luxury amenities, but its technology was becoming dated compared to newer models. Reliability is where the R-Class falls short compared to the Acura MDX and Lexus RX, which are known for their dependability. Price-wise, used R-Classes are now more affordable, but potential repair costs offset the savings.
Alternatives to consider include the Acura MDX for reliability and a more engaging driving experience, or the Lexus RX for a comfortable and luxurious ride with better long-term dependability. The Buick Enclave offers similar space and features at a potentially lower overall cost of ownership. While the R-Class offers a unique blend of luxury and space, its reliability issues make it a less compelling choice than its rivals.

Bought it when it was already 7 years in service.A great car with so many safety features and best value. Spacious interior and stylish exterior. I own a V6. Itβs a pretty heavy car so V8 maybe better than V6?
VTC on April 28, 2019
Has all the options one could ever need.I love the look and the six are the most comfortable out there!!! Most cars only fit four comfortably the fifth is squeezed in the rear seat. Most SUVs too boxy.

Excellent 7 seat car. Does't look like a minivan. The car is great. All 7 seats are adjustable. Very comfortable inside with 7 passenger, or very spacious with just 5 passengers. It has plenty room even on the 3rd row.
