The Good
The 2012 Equus offers a smooth and powerful performance. Its reliability is generally good. The main advantage is exceptional comfort with a luxurious interior and quiet ride. The design is elegant and understated. Value for money is high, appealing to practical buyers, while the prestige and pampering features resonate with emotional buyers seeking a premium experience without the premium price tag.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2012 Equus include its brand image, which may not carry the same prestige as established luxury brands. Resale value is also lower compared to its rivals. Some owners have reported issues with the air suspension and electrical components. Be sure to thoroughly inspect these systems before purchasing a used model. The styling could also be considered somewhat bland by some.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2012 Hyundai Equus Have?
Recalls for the 2012 Equus were relatively few, but it's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or performance.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the air suspension, which can be expensive to maintain and repair as the vehicle ages. The electronic systems, while feature-rich, can also be prone to glitches over time. Other potential issues include oil leaks and general wear and tear on components such as brakes and suspension parts. Preventative maintenance, particularly addressing fluid changes and inspecting suspension components, is crucial for mitigating potential long-term problems.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
The Ultimate trim adds features like a rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens, power-closing doors, and a heads-up display. The Equus also has advanced safety features, including multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and antilock brakes.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA were generally good. The IIHS gave it "Good" ratings in several categories. These ratings demonstrate the vehicle's ability to protect occupants in the event of a collision.
Optional features were relatively limited, as the car was already well-equipped. However, buyers could choose from various interior and exterior color combinations. The focus was on providing a luxurious and comfortable experience with an emphasis on safety and driver assistance.

How Does the 2012 Hyundai Equus Compare to Other Sedan?
Alternatives to the Equus include a used Lexus LS, which offers superior reliability and resale value, albeit at a higher initial cost. A used Acura RLX could be another option, providing a balance of luxury, reliability, and value. If performance is a priority, a used BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class could be considered, but be prepared for higher maintenance costs. The Equus stands out for offering a lot of luxury for the money, but buyers should be aware of potential long-term ownership costs and depreciation.

My 2012 EquusI bought my Signature with 25k miles, I now have 110K. Since then, I have replaced a wheel bearing, front and rear suspension bellows and the ECU. It is a conformable car with lots of power and quiet. But reliability is not great. There is a special mechanic required to work on it and it may take a year for repairs (actually). Paint does not hold up and interior plastic parts fail. Good car, but $60K, NO. Resale is terrible

Beautiful car but can't drive itWhen I first bought the car it drove great. Then the underbody damage revealed itself. The car started making all kinds of noises in the front end. Eventually, the car failed and started making a noise that sounded like a jack hammer when I was driving. I took the Hyundai dealership and found out the engine block was loose. Car drove ok for about 2 days then the little noises started again. The car has a V8 engine but I have to take off very very slowly or the car starts making knocking noise again. Basically, I have to treat the car softly. I hate driving this car that I paid over $18,000.
