The 2000 Chrysler Concorde is a full-size, front-wheel-drive sedan that was part of Chrysler's LH platform. Produced from 1993 to 2004, the Concorde offered a spacious interior and a smooth ride. Key trims included the base LX and the more upscale LXi. New, prices ranged from around $22,000 to $27,000. Its popularity stemmed from its sleek, aerodynamic design and comfortable cabin, making it a stylish and practical choice for families and commuters.
The Good

Performance was adequate for daily driving, and it presented good value for its size and features, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.

The Bad

The 2000 Chrysler Concorde had some known weaknesses. Potential buyers should watch out for transmission issues, particularly with the 4-speed automatic. What Problems Does the 2000 Chrysler Concorde Have?

The 2000 Chrysler Concorde, while offering a comfortable ride, had its share of frequently reported problems. One of the most common issues was transmission failure, particularly in models with higher mileage. Symptoms included slipping gears, erratic shifting, and complete transmission failure. Electrical problems were also prevalent, ranging from malfunctioning power windows and door locks to issues with the car's computer system. Some owners reported problems with the air conditioning system, including compressor failure and refrigerant leaks.

Rust was a significant long-term reliability concern, especially in areas with harsh winters where road salt was used. Body panels, particularly around the wheel wells and rocker panels, were susceptible to corrosion. There were recalls issued for certain years of the Concorde, but specific details for the 2000 model would need to be checked with the NHTSA database to confirm applicability. Owners also noted issues with the front suspension components, such as ball joints and tie rod ends, requiring replacement over time. Engine issues, while less common, included oil leaks and occasional sensor failures. Regular maintenance and addressing problems promptly were crucial to prolonging the lifespan of the vehicle.

How long will the 2000 Chrysler Concorde last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2000 Chrysler Concorde could potentially reach 200,000 miles or more. However, average mileage varies widely based on owner care. Expect to see many examples around 150,000-180,000 miles. Long-term durability is often impacted by rust and electrical issues. The transmission is a known weak point, requiring careful attention. Regular fluid changes and addressing minor issues promptly can significantly extend its lifespan. Neglecting maintenance will likely lead to premature failures and a shorter lifespan. Good preventative measures are key to the car's longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2000 Chrysler Concorde offered a modest array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard entertainment included an AM/FM radio with a cassette player. The LXi trim added a premium sound system. Tech features were basic: power windows, power locks, and available automatic climate control. Driver-assistance features were limited to power steering and anti-lock brakes (ABS) were optional.

Safety features included dual front airbags and optional side airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were available, enhancing braking performance in slippery conditions. No advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring were offered, as they were not common in vehicles of that era. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) crash test ratings for the 2000 Chrysler Concorde varied, but generally, it received acceptable ratings for frontal and side impact protection. It's crucial to consult official NHTSA reports for specific scores. Optional features included a sunroof, leather seats (standard on LXi), and upgraded audio systems. Overall, the Concorde prioritized comfort and spaciousness over cutting-edge technology.

2000 Chrysler Concorde Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2000 Chrysler Concorde LX started around $22,000, while the LXi trim was closer to $27,000. As expected, depreciation has been significant. Today, a used 2000 Concorde, in fair condition, might fetch between $1,000 and $3,000, depending on mileage, condition, and location. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, mileage, maintenance history, and whether it's the LX or LXi trim. The car's age and potential for mechanical issues heavily influence its low market value. Rust-free examples in excellent condition can command a slightly higher price, but overall demand is low.

2000 Chrysler Concorde Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2000 Chrysler Concorde are relatively low due to its age and low market value. Fuel costs are moderate, reflecting its V6 engine's fuel economy. However, maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to the age of the vehicle and potential for mechanical issues, especially concerning the transmission and electrical system. Parts availability might become a concern over time. Overall, while initial purchase price is low, long-term ownership can be costly if not properly maintained.

2000 Chrysler Concorde Insurance

Insurance for a 2000 Chrysler Concorde is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2000 Chrysler Concorde Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2000 Chrysler Concorde competed with full-size sedans like the Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Impala, and Toyota Avalon. Compared to the Taurus, the Concorde offered a more stylish design but lagged in reliability. The Impala provided similar performance and features but arguably had a more robust powertrain. The Avalon, while more expensive, consistently outperformed the Concorde in reliability and resale value.

In terms of features, the Concorde was competitive but didn't stand out significantly. Its price point was attractive, often undercutting the Avalon. However, the Avalon's superior reliability made it a better long-term investment. If reliability is a primary concern, the Toyota Avalon or even a well-maintained Buick LeSabre would be a better alternative. The Ford Taurus offers a similar experience, although it is known for its own reliability issues, so choosing the right model year is important. If budget is the top priority and you're willing to accept potential maintenance challenges, the Concorde could be considered, but only after a thorough inspection.

Final Verdict: Is the 2000 Chrysler Concorde a Good Sedan?

The 2000 Chrysler Concorde is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a spacious and comfortable full-size sedan. However, due to its age and potential reliability issues, it's only worth buying if you can find one in exceptionally well-maintained condition with a documented service history. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. The LXi trim offers more desirable features, but reliability should be the primary factor in your decision. Consider it as a short-term, inexpensive transportation option rather than a long-term investment. Newer, more reliable alternatives are recommended if your budget allows.

2000SUX

I've bought mine used at an auction in December 2015. It was time for a change so I've decided to sell my coupe due to from too many repairs and I got tired of paying for premium. I was looking for a car that has passenger and trunk space, and that was good one gas and this was the one! The only two things that are missing are the sunroof and the fog lights. Other than that, this is an awesome car to have. The only flaws that it has when I've purchased it was that the power mirrors didn't work and the driver side seat wouldn't tilt up and down. But that's the chance you take when you purchase a used car. I've had the car six months and already I've put 16,000 miles on the car. Last but not least, the ladies like my Concorde. I've added a new sound system with a roll-out flatscreen with bluetooth. I took it to Earl Scheib and it looks like new.

would love to keep it forever

I really like this car. After an initial shock of having to get the transmission repaired with only 8000 miles on it (totally covered by the warranty, with a loaner car) I have not had too much trouble. It is extremely comfortable, very quiet, and easy to drive with a huge back seat that all passangers notice and like. The only driving problem is, rear visibility takes some getting used to. A lower rear would have made backing up easier. As for repairs, other than the usual and expected, I had to have the rack replaced TWICE, again, both covered under warranty, but unexpected. My only real gripe is the front brakes. Chrysler uses what I think are cheap rotors. They are not nice cast units, but made of laminated steel plates. The first set "delaminated" (quarter-sized holes on the braking surface) at only 30,000 miles, having never been cut or anything. I was not happy as this was NOT covered under my warranty. Now, only 19,000 later, that front set have also delaminated. This time, I had it replaced with a much better after-market cast rotor, NOT by the dealer, and for more money, but, you get what you pay for. Last thing, it has a huge trunk, if that matters to you, as it does to me. I also just had to replace the power steering hoses because of a leak, a very expensive proposition. Don't know how common that is.

Most Reliable Car I've Owned

Great Car. Runs perfectly, never had any technical problems with it. Very cheap to maintain. Had this car for quite a while now. I love the cruise control in this car because it makes driving so much more relaxed (don't have to check the speed I'm going all the time). The air condition helps to keep the car cool in summer and works well. Overall I would rate this car as excellent.

Very Nice Car

As long as you get the 3.2L V-6, this is a great car for the money! I used to sell chryslers and I liked them then, but now I bought one and I really like it. Mine is a 2000 LXI with leather, sunroof, Infinity stereo, and Chrome wheels. I am going to have heated seats installed for about $600 and It's ready for winter.
