The Good
The 2012 Toyota Prius v excels in fuel efficiency, offering exceptional gas mileage for practical buyers. Its spacious interior provides comfort for families. Toyota's reputation for reliability appeals to those seeking long-term value. While not sporty, the hybrid system delivers adequate performance for daily driving. Emotionally, owners appreciate the eco-friendly image and lower running costs.
The Bad
The 2012 Toyota Prius v's weaknesses include its somewhat uninspired driving dynamics and potentially sluggish acceleration, especially when fully loaded. The interior materials, while durable, can feel somewhat cheap. Some owners have reported issues with the hybrid battery pack over time, and the infotainment system is dated compared to newer vehicles. Analysis
What Problems Does the 2012 Toyota Prius v Have?
Recalls for the 2012 Prius v have addressed issues such as potential cracks in the fuel delivery pipe, which could lead to fuel leakage and fire risk. Additionally, some vehicles were recalled for issues related to the hybrid system's inverter. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the longevity of the hybrid battery pack, which can be expensive to replace. While Toyota hybrids are generally reliable, the battery's lifespan is finite and depends on factors like climate and driving habits. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and inspections of the hybrid system, is crucial for mitigating these issues and maximizing the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but the Prius v did offer features like cruise control and stability control. Higher trims had available features such as parking assist.
Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags (front, side, and curtain).
Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally positive. The IIHS gave the 2012 Prius v a "Top Safety Pick" award. NHTSA awarded it a four-star overall safety rating. How Does the 2012 Toyota Prius v Compare to Other Vehicle?
In terms of performance, the Prius v is less engaging to drive than the C-Max Hybrid. However, the Prius v generally offers better fuel economy. The Outback provides more powerful engine options and all-wheel drive, but its fuel economy is lower. The CR-V and RAV4 offer more ground clearance and a higher driving position.
In terms of reliability, the Prius v holds an edge over the Ford C-Max Hybrid, though the Subaru Outback also enjoys a good reputation. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are known for their reliability as well.
Feature-wise, the Prius v offers a decent array of technology, but its infotainment system is dated compared to newer models. The Outback provides more advanced features in higher trims.
Pricing for used models is generally competitive. A similar or better alternative would be a newer generation Prius v or Prius Prime (plug-in hybrid) if budget allows. Alternatively, a used Honda CR-V offers similar cargo space and reliability with a more traditional SUV experience. A Subaru Outback is a good option if all-wheel drive is needed.

Great used carThe Best “used†car I’ve ever owned. The comfort paired with the economy is EXEMPLARY. The uneducated rumor that it doesn’t have any room is a total lie. I’m 6’3 and weigh 240 and have a ton of room!

Great Upkeep!Impressed a 2012 runs just as well as my previous 2014. It was enjoyable driving this car around Walnut Creek. It handled well and performed as expected.

Great Test DriveFor an older vehicle, it runs very well and it is in great condition. There were scrapes on the rear bumper and a chip out of the plastic in the back, but the final price of the vehicle reflected that in my opinion. Drove very nicely for my hours drive back to Stockton. Can't give five stars reliability yet because I have not drove it enough, but I am impressed so far.

Most Cost Effective Car I have ever owned!Maz MPG's (40 +), quality through interior and exterior. Repair costs are minimal and overall cost of ownership is amazingly low. The roominess of the interior is surprising (We can fir a 10 ft Kayak inside and still close the back hatch.
