Analysis
What Problems Does the 2009 Chevrolet HHR Have?
There have been recalls for the HHR, including issues related to the ignition switch (affecting multiple GM models), which could potentially cause the engine to stall and disable airbags. Rust, particularly around the rear hatch and rocker panels, is a long-term reliability concern, especially in areas with road salt. The 2009 model year seems to share similar issues with other years in the HHR's production run, though specific problems can vary based on usage and maintenance. Checking the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls is highly recommended before purchase. It's also wise to have a mechanic inspect the suspension and electrical systems.
How long will the 2009 Chevrolet HHR last?
However, long-term durability is often impacted by maintenance habits. Neglecting fluid changes, suspension repairs, or addressing minor issues promptly can significantly shorten the lifespan. Key weaknesses include potential rust issues, electrical problems, and wear and tear on suspension components. Regular inspections and timely repairs are crucial for maximizing the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited, with standard features like anti-lock brakes (ABS) and traction control. Optional features included remote start. Safety features include front and side-impact airbags for the front occupants. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring available.
In terms of crash-test ratings, the 2009 HHR received mixed reviews from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It generally scored well in frontal crash tests but had lower scores in side-impact tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the HHR a "Good" rating in frontal offset crash tests but a "Marginal" rating in side-impact tests. It's important to consider these ratings when evaluating the vehicle's overall safety.

How Does the 2009 Chevrolet HHR Compare to Other Sedan?
Alternatives to consider include the Honda Fit, known for its fuel efficiency and reliability, or the Toyota Matrix, offering a similar wagon-style design with Toyota's reputation for dependability. The Mazda5 minivan could be a worthwhile choice for buyers needing additional passenger space. For those seeking a unique and affordable vehicle, the HHR remains a viable option, but it's crucial to weigh its potential reliability concerns against the alternatives.

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Chevrolet HHR a Good Sedan?
Due to its age, purchasing a used 2009 HHR requires careful inspection for rust, electrical issues, and suspension wear. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended. If well-maintained and priced right, it can be a practical and economical choice. However, if reliability is your top priority, exploring alternatives might be a better option.

I c all these good reports on this vech but yet I amI c all these good reports on this vech but yet I am seeing nothing but a money pit, I bought this car from original owner and it had 101280 on it, since the first year of owning it I had to replace the following: turn signal switch (L)(R)on steering column, door latches, door locks, warped rotor's, tie rods, transmission rebuild, wiring harness cracked solder connectors for dashboard components, entire rear brack light assembly, reverse light assembly, front headlight assembly and cyclops light assembly due to heating ? They were all melting (strange)...so I have had this for 4 YEAR'S!! I must have gotten the WHOLE LEMON ðŸ‹..... my first Chevy and probably my last... I Miss My '68 Chevy Nova 😟😔😞....the newer Chevy's feel so cheaply made and collapse like a spring in crash tests that I c as I have done further researching into trucks/car's..... cost's up, quality down 👎 back to horse 🎠and buggy's....... American vech's are not anything like they used to be.....not even close!!....hate to say it but Nissan frontier Ex of mine 350,000 miles still runs like a Scared cat and very dependable, original starter, alt, radiator, motor, and 2nd transmission "STRONG LIKE BULL" 🂠THANKS for your time in reading this ("KAREN" rant) Have a wonderful day my friends!! 🙠Thank you God for another day...... Bless you All

Great car for the price. My HHR lasted for over 350,000 miles before a truck backed into me with the truck’s hitch going through the radiator. Normal maintenance issues. Very large cargo area for a compact car. Big enough to hold a full size freezer.

Not satisfied!!I can't start my 2009 HHR. It's not the battery, lights come on but it will not turn over. I bought the car in 2014. Had issues with the headlight on the passenger side. Not coming on, even after replacing the bulb. I was driving and the radio stopped playing, then I couldn't give turning signals, the temp didn't display,a light with a lock on my vehicle came on and after I parked it at home it hasn't started yet!

Loud, uncomfortable and poorly designed.Might as well have the windows down as you can hear the slightest noise outside. Rising down the highway, you have to yell to hear each other clearly. The ride is truly awful, extremely bumpy. The wheel design was obviously intended to rust your rotors as fast as possible. The cabin filter is ridiculous to replace, as are the horn and headlamps. Window placement was intended for someone at least 6’2â€. An average woman has to strain to see out the rear windows when backing, and you still can’t see very well. What it is lacking in leg room, it doesn’t make up for in cabin width. My arms ache from trying not to slam my elbow into the door. The plastic dash falls apart easily. The heated seats, seat belts, seat adjustment and back supports all developed problems shortly after purchase., as did the actuator behind the glove box. As a lifelong Chevy owner, I am very disappointed.

Very Reliable VehicleI bought this car 5 years ago with 52,000 miles on the odometer. It now has 121,660 miles on it. Only one major repair on it, within a year of purchase. That was a clutch replacement. Since then only routine maintenance. And it still gets 28-30 mpg.

Video Safety issuesDoor locks are unsafe and unreliable. They stop working and fly open in a trun or on highway. This should be a safety recall and redesigned so no one ends up falling out, because door unlocked and flew open.
