The 2010 Chevrolet HHR, standing for Heritage High Roof, is a retro-styled, compact, multi-purpose vehicle. Inspired by 1949 Chevy Suburban, it was produced from 2006 to 2011. Key trims include the LS, 1LT, 2LT, and the performance-oriented SS. New pricing ranged roughly from $18,000 to $25,000. The HHR's unique styling and cargo versatility made it a popular choice for those seeking practicality with a touch of nostalgia.
The Good

The 2010 HHR offers a blend of practicality and retro charm. Its spacious cargo area appeals to practical buyers, while its distinctive design evokes a sense of nostalgia. The available turbocharged engine provides decent performance. It is generally considered a value-oriented vehicle, offering ample features for the price. Reliability is generally average for its class.

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR has some potential weaknesses. Owners should watch out for potential issues with the electrical system, particularly the power windows and door locks. What Problems Does the 2010 Chevrolet HHR Have?

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR, while generally reliable, has several frequently reported problems. One common issue involves the electrical system, particularly the power windows and door locks malfunctioning. Some owners have reported failures with the ignition switch, leading to stalling or difficulty starting the vehicle. Another potential problem area is the automatic transmission, with some reports of slipping or rough shifting.
Recalls have been issued for the HHR, often related to safety concerns such as faulty airbags or issues with the anti-lock braking system (ABS). Owners should check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns include potential rust issues, especially in areas with harsh winters and road salt. Suspension components, such as struts and ball joints, may require replacement over time. The turbocharged engine in the HHR SS, while providing excellent performance, may require more frequent maintenance and is potentially more prone to issues compared to the naturally aspirated engines. Regular maintenance and addressing minor issues promptly are crucial for maximizing the lifespan of a 2010 HHR.

How long will the 2010 Chevrolet HHR last?

With proper maintenance, a 2010 Chevrolet HHR can reasonably reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or provide 10-15 years of service. Longevity heavily depends on adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items. Long-term durability can be affected by rust, particularly in colder climates. Weaknesses often manifest in the electrical system and suspension. Neglecting these areas will significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan. Regular inspection is key.

In 2012 bought our USED 2010 HHR Chevrolet (an American Greetings' fleet car) from local N. Olmsted, OH. dealer. Perfect for DELIVERING our Bakery's very large wedding cakes, etc., & everyday family errands, & great for camping (its' cargo roof is a bonus too). Looked EVERYWHERE trying to find a ROOMY & FLAT cargo floor w/back seats easily lowered for our cake business! Had to be a "multi-useable" business & family one car! FINALLY found this beautiful HHR! A real workhorse. Feels like a Cadillac! Good low mpg gas cost. Maintenance is minimal. Best all around car we've ever had. It's still our 100% reliable transportation 24x7. Highly recommended.

The car has all the goodies, power ride, storage space. Great for all around use. Handles like a sports car can use as a crossover SUV.

2010 Chevrolet HHR Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2010 Chevrolet HHR ranged from approximately $18,000 for the base LS model to around $25,000 for a fully-equipped HHR SS. Currently, used market prices typically range from $4,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The HHR has experienced significant depreciation due to its age and the availability of newer, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, accident history, mileage, and the presence of desirable options like the turbocharged engine in the SS model. Low mileage examples in excellent condition will command higher prices.

2010 Chevrolet HHR Cost of Ownership

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is decent, particularly with the base engine. Maintenance and repair costs are average for its class, with readily available parts. However, potential electrical issues and age-related wear can lead to unexpected expenses. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance habits and the overall condition of the vehicle. Finding a well-maintained example is crucial to minimizing potential repair bills.

2010 Chevrolet HHR Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Chevrolet HHR is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a 2LT Ton) with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Chevrolet HHR Compare to Other 2LT Ton)?

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR competed with vehicles like the Kia Soul, Scion xB, and Chrysler PT Cruiser. In terms of performance, the HHR SS offered a significant advantage over its rivals with its turbocharged engine. However, the base HHR engines were less powerful than some competitors. Feature-wise, the HHR was comparable, offering similar levels of equipment for the price.
Reliability is where the HHR falls slightly behind. The Kia Soul and Scion xB generally have better reliability ratings. The PT Cruiser is arguably worse in reliability.
Price-wise, the HHR was competitive, often offering a good value proposition.
Alternatives to consider include the Kia Soul for its superior warranty and reliability, the Scion xB for its spacious interior and quirky styling, and the Honda Element (if you can find one in good condition) for its exceptional versatility. If performance is a priority, a used Mazda3 hatchback could also be a worthwhile alternative. The HHR SS is unique in its performance offering within its class, but if that is not a major factor, other alternatives might provide a better overall ownership experience.

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Chevrolet HHR a Good 2LT Ton)?

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR is ideal for buyers seeking a practical and affordable vehicle with a unique retro design. It's worth buying used if you find a well-maintained example with low mileage and a clean history. The HHR SS is a particularly appealing option for those prioritizing performance. However, be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs with the turbocharged engine. Consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential issues. Weigh the HHR's strengths against its potential weaknesses and consider alternatives like the Kia Soul or Scion xB if reliability is a top priority.

Super safe and so fun to drive.

Ive owned 3 HHR SS’s and they are so much fun to drive. They are just as quick as a lot of performance sedans twice the price and the handling is quite good. 5 star crash rated and get 30 mpg on the highway. Cheap to insure and maintain.

Enjoy my HHR

I very much like the retro style of the HHR. We like the room we have with the back seat folded down. We like the way it handles and the gas mileage we get. This is the second one we own as the first one was totaled in a crash. Hope to have this one for many years to come.
