The Good
The 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche offers a blend of truck utility and SUV comfort. Its powerful V8 engine provides ample performance for towing and hauling. The unique midgate design appeals to practical buyers needing flexible cargo space. Comfortable seating and ride quality appeal to emotional buyers seeking a versatile family vehicle. While not the most efficient, its overall value for capability is strong.
The Bad
Known weaknesses of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche include potential issues with the AFM (Active Fuel Management) system, leading to oil consumption. Some owners report problems with the body cladding, including fading and loosening. Fuel economy can be poor, especially with the 5.3L V8. Rust can be a concern in areas with road salt, particularly on the undercarriage. Check for proper operation of the midgate and its seals to prevent leaks.

What Problems Does the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche Have?
Another area of concern is the body cladding. The plastic cladding can fade, crack, or become loose over time, affecting the vehicle's appearance. Rust, particularly in areas where salt is used on roads, is also a potential problem, especially on the undercarriage and around the wheel wells.
There have been some recalls related to the 2007 Avalanche, so it's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all recall work has been performed. Common recall areas include airbag systems and potential fuel leaks. Long-term reliability can be affected by the aforementioned oil consumption and rust issues, as well as potential problems with the transmission. Regular maintenance, particularly oil changes and rust prevention measures, are crucial for extending the Avalanche's lifespan. The midgate seals should also be inspected regularly to prevent water leaks into the cabin or bed.
How long will the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited, primarily consisting of features like cruise control and available rear parking assist. A rearview camera was available on the LTZ trim. Safety features included front airbags and side-impact airbags.
Crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) varied, but the Avalanche generally performed well in frontal and side-impact tests. However, rollover ratings were typically lower, reflecting the vehicle's higher center of gravity. Keep in mind that safety technology has advanced significantly since 2007, so compared to modern vehicles, the Avalanche's safety features are less comprehensive. Optional features could include OnStar services, offering emergency assistance and vehicle diagnostics.

How Does the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Reliability is a key area where the Avalanche falls short compared to some competitors, particularly the Toyota Tundra, which is known for its longevity. The Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram 1500 also had their own reliability issues but generally fared better than the Avalanche in certain areas, such as engine longevity (excluding AFM-related issues).
Price-wise, the used Avalanche is often comparable to its rivals. However, considering long-term ownership costs and potential repairs, the Toyota Tundra might be a better alternative if reliability is a priority. The Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram 1500 offer similar capabilities and may have lower repair costs, depending on the specific model year and engine. If the midgate is not a primary need, a traditional full-size truck offers a wider range of options and potentially better value.

Phenomenal vehicleI purchased my 2007 Avalanche in 2011 and am second owner. I absolutely love this truck and have taken excellent care of it the whole time. I bought it with 65000 miles on it and now have 250,000. Yes, I've replaced things and have been proactive in replacing other things that can go out like water pumps, alternators, etc...I absolutely trust this old girl to take me anywhere and any distance and wouldnt hesitate to buy another one.

UNBELIEVABLE2007 LTZ I bought it second hand in Aug 2006. Now, 168,000 mile on it and the first problem I have had was my oil pressure sensor just went out . NOT one problem and I bought it in Aug 2006 sight unseen while I was in Bagdad Iraq off of eBay. It runs and looks the same as the day I bought it.

One problem after another! Worst vehicle I ever oWould NEVER buy another. Tire sensor problems, computer issues and the motor blew at 170,000 miles. It will cause you to go broke in repairs.

Nice truck and I like them but seems to have problI have test drove 2 07 avalanches and both had noise coming from drivers side wheel bearing. Don't know if it's common on these are what. Surprisingly there ain't a call back for it. Love the truck otherwise.

One of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever ownedI need to get rid of it because I’m moving back to Virginia and I don’t really want to take it across the country with me since I already have a vehicle there

VersitaleComfortable for family in the cab and full 8ft bed when needed. Great truck and very comfortable driving. I wish GM did not stop making this model of truck, it is a great option for the SUV/Truck market. Oh well need to keep driving an older model

FrameDriving on interstate at 75 miles per hour when the rear frame rusted in half on driver side rear. I think they use the cheapest steel . What outrages price for vehicle and it's pure junk. Piss poor engineering if you ask me.
