The Good
The 2004 CLK-Class offers a compelling blend of luxury and performance. Its elegant design and comfortable interior provide emotional appeal. From a practical standpoint, it delivers respectable reliability (though not flawless), a smooth ride, and decent fuel efficiency, especially in the CLK320. Performance enthusiasts will appreciate the CLK500 and CLK55 AMG's powerful engines.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2004 CLK-Class include electrical issues (sensor malfunctions, lighting problems), occasional transmission glitches, and potential for rust, especially in areas with road salt. Suspension components can wear, leading to costly repairs. The CLK55 AMG has higher maintenance costs due to its performance-oriented parts. Prior maintenance history is critical.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Have?
Long-term reliability concerns often involve the aging of rubber components, such as hoses and seals, leading to leaks. The CLK55 AMG, while offering exhilarating performance, can be more expensive to maintain due to the specialized nature of its parts and higher performance demands. Engine mounts may also fail prematurely, particularly in the higher-performance models.
How long will the 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features varied depending on the trim level and packages selected. These could include a sunroof, upgraded leather upholstery, heated seats, a multi-disc CD changer, and parking sensors. The COMAND system, integrating navigation and audio controls, was also an available option. Crash test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied. While specific ratings for the 2004 model year can be found on their websites, the CLK-Class generally performed well in crash tests, reflecting Mercedes-Benz's commitment to safety. However, remember that safety technology has advanced significantly since 2004.

How Does the 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Compare to Other Coupe?
Price-wise, the CLK was generally competitive. As used cars, the BMW 3 Series Coupe can be a similar or slightly cheaper option. Alternatives worth considering include the Infiniti G35 Coupe, which offers similar performance at a lower price point, though with less luxurious appointments. If reliability is a top priority, the Lexus SC430 is a strong contender. For a more engaging driving experience, the BMW 3 Series remains a solid choice. The Audi A4 Cabriolet offered similar luxury and open-top experience, but might not match the CLK's performance or prestige.

The 2-door hard top coup. This model from very late 90s to very early 2000's (mine is a 2004) are great cars. The 6clydr M112 and M113 engines are Benz's best

As close to perfect as it gets. The most balanced car I've ever owned. Not over or under powered. Very comfortable, timeless design and very good on MPG for that kind of power.

Literally the most reliable car I've ever ownedThe Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Coupe V6 is very spacious inside yet compact so it's very easy to park. As the original owner, I have driven it for 14 years and absolutely enjoyed it as it's been extremely reliable, sporty, and fun! I have kept up with its services and it's been worth it as it runs like a champ at 89,000 miles. Truly can't go wrong with this solid german engine!

Most Beautiful Car I've Ever Owned! This car is powerful, compact, beautiful to look at and be seen in. Every time I get in it, I feel pampered. The cadet blue color is a definite rare, and distinct color among these CLK cars and not to mention the power of the V8 in a smaller car. It's like the Mustang 5.0 engine but in a luxury car. That's why I got it myself.

Outstanding in every way.My previous three vehicles were Japanese and I loved them all (2000 Civic 4 door, 2013 Toyota Corolla and 2017 Civic again) but I really, really wanted a Benz and specifically THIS Benz. Something about the design of the CLK class ends up as the quintessential Mercedes sporty but classy look that is forever timeless. I got it at a steal with 104,000 miles, all original everything, two owners, clean carfax, perfect documented maintenance history, no repairs needed, and had my local Mercedes dealer check it over along with my buddy who was a Benz tech for 30 years. This car is built to last, and the combination of the quiet and comfy interior (for the coupe, at least) and wonderfully tight construction all around, from handling to the powerful engine response and Tiptronic options...it's all too much. The car's onboard PCM even for that era was smart as hell and the luxury inside is accented exactly correctly with the wood panels. Mine was black on black on black with light grey for the headliner and I replaced that for black as well. No issues with it whatsoever and I'm happy pushing 90 plus on the highway or motoring around the city with the sick sound system blasting, Bose with the bass boost to the max with or without the woofer. I love it. You can get a great one for 5K - go grab it now.
