The Good
The 2005 CLK offers a compelling blend of performance and luxury. Emotionally, its elegant design and available V8 power provide a sporty, aspirational feel. Practically, it delivers a comfortable ride, relatively reliable Mercedes engineering (compared to some other years), and a prestigious badge. It provides a satisfying driving experience with a touch of class.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2005 CLK include potential electrical issues, particularly with the convertible top mechanism (if applicable) and window regulators. Oil leaks are also a common concern. What Problems Does the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2005 CLK-Class have been issued for issues such as fuel filter leaks and potential problems with the supplemental restraint system (airbags). It's important to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls. Long-term reliability concerns center around the aging electrical system and potential for expensive repairs. The complexity of the Mercedes-Benz electrical system means that even minor issues can be costly to diagnose and fix. Preventive maintenance, such as regular oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial to mitigating these risks. The CLK55 AMG, while offering exhilarating performance, requires specialized maintenance and repairs, adding to the long-term ownership costs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern standards, but included cruise control. Safety features were more comprehensive. Standard features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), traction control, and multiple airbags (front, side, and curtain).
Optional features included rain-sensing wipers, park assist, and bi-xenon headlights. The CLK's safety was further enhanced by its solid construction and Mercedes-Benz's reputation for safety engineering. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) performed crash tests on the CLK-Class during its production run. NHTSA gave the 2005 CLK a 5-star rating for front and side impact protection for both driver and passenger. IIHS gave the CLK a "Good" rating in the moderate overlap front crash test. These ratings are strong for a vehicle of this age, demonstrating the CLK's commitment to occupant safety. However, it lacks modern safety technology such as blind spot monitoring or lane departure warning.

How Does the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Compare to Other Convertible?
In terms of features, the CLK offered a comparable level of luxury and technology to its rivals. Reliability is where the CLK can fall short compared to the Lexus SC430, which enjoys a reputation for exceptional dependability. Used prices for the CLK are often lower than the Lexus, reflecting this.
Alternatives to the CLK include the aforementioned BMW 3 Series Coupe/Convertible (E46 generation), offering a sportier driving experience. The Lexus SC430 provides superior reliability. If reliability is a top priority, the Lexus is a better choice. If performance and handling are paramount, the BMW is preferable. If a balance of luxury, style, and performance is desired, and you are willing to accept higher maintenance costs, the CLK remains a viable option.

Fast, Smooth and Quiet.Great car, very fast, smooth, and quiet. Long doors can be hard to get out in a parking lot. The only thing I have a problem with is the electrics, setting the clock time, or resetting mileage. The car's phone is also out of date, and not usable.

Brand new to meMy wife and I have been looking for a 4 seat convertible for some time now. This car checked so many boxes for us, some we didn't even know we wanted. We wanted something somewhat unique, low miles (38,000), comfortable, not slow 🙂 This car is WAY more luxurious than we thought we would want but it grows on you. For the price we paid it is simply a fantastic car. I have trouble believing it is 17 years old. So far so very good.

Overall a great vehicle.I’ve owned this CLK 500 for a few years now. It’s been a great car. Aside from a few normal repairs, it’s been very reliable. The best thing is that it’s a WOLF in sheep’s clothing. The 5.0L V-8 puts out a lot of horsepower for a car this size. It’s a real rocket when you need it. Plus for simply touring on the highway, it’s one of the most comfortable and fun cars I’ve ever owned. I love it!

Excellent value for a pre-owned car.A true hardtop with no B pillar, great legroom in front if you're tall, back seats fold down for surprising utility, V6 returns 27-30 mpg.
