The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo is a subcompact car that was initially introduced to the North American market as a budget-friendly option. Available as a sedan and a hatchback, the Aveo was offered in LS and LT trims. Model years spanned from 2004 to 2011 in the US. New, it had a pricing range typically from $10,000 to $14,000. Its affordability made it a popular choice for first-time car buyers and those seeking inexpensive transportation.
The Good

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo primarily appeals to practical buyers due to its affordability and fuel efficiency. While not boasting exceptional performance or luxurious comfort, it offers a simple and straightforward driving experience. The value proposition lies in its low price point, making it accessible to those on a tight budget. It's a good starter car.

The Bad

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo is known for its subpar build quality and below-average reliability. Potential buyers should watch out for issues with the engine, transmission, and electrical systems. Rust can also be a problem, especially in areas with harsh winters. Its safety ratings are also not the best compared to rivals.

What Problems Does the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo Have?

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo has a history of frequently reported problems that can impact its long-term reliability. Some of the most common issues include engine problems like leaks and premature wear, transmission failures (especially in the automatic version), and electrical issues that can affect various systems, including the lights and radio.

Recalls have been issued for certain model years of the Aveo, so it's important to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. These recalls may address issues such as faulty ignition switches or other components that could pose a safety risk.

Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the Aveo's build quality and the durability of its components. Owners have reported issues with rust, particularly in areas exposed to road salt. The interior materials are also prone to wear and tear over time. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are crucial to keeping a 2007 Aveo running smoothly, but even with proper care, it may not be as reliable as some of its competitors. Check engine lights are common and often stem from minor but persistent sensor issues.

How long will the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo last?

A well-maintained 2007 Chevrolet Aveo could potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles, but this is highly dependent on diligent maintenance and driving habits. Many Aveos start experiencing significant issues well before this milestone.

Long-term durability is a known weakness. The Aveo's components, including the engine, transmission, and suspension, are not as robust as those of some competitors. Rust can also be a significant concern, especially in regions with harsh winters. Therefore, expect higher repair and maintenance costs over time compared to more reliable vehicles.

Fell inlove with this baby! Met all my needs. I almost felt like a cute little high school chick again! Gets great gas milage. Picks up and goes. Smooth and quiet
Great car
The gas is super cheap you can put 15$ in the tank and be on full with corona going on probably even cheaper. Nothing is wrong with the car it’s clean and it has tint and more! A very good car . I would recommend!

Although the car is not to modern, it does sell for cheap between 1500-1000 usually and it’s not a hard car to work on. The transmission has never failed me and occasionally needs maintenance work like any other car but if you’re looking for something affordable then this is the car to go with

Angry car owner
I bought this car to save money on gas and this was my big mistake. The car had 55,000 miles on it and four months after we purchased it, we had to replace the engine! Now, a year later the radiator went out. I am constantly throwing money into this car for mechanical issues. One would think that Chevrolet would make a good car but that is not the case. I am buying a Toyota next!

not that good i have a lot of problem right now.to many things need to be fix that wasnt done when i bought it.

I bought a 2007 Chevy Aveo Hatchback on November14,2006....it is now February 20,2007 and my car has been in the repair shop for 8 days now! At first they thought it was the lifters that failed...so they replaced all of them...As if that wasn't bad enough...the car was still making the same "ticking" noise that it had been...now they think it's the

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo was a basic car for its time, offering limited built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features.

Entertainment: Standard models typically came with an AM/FM radio and possibly a CD player. Higher trims, like the LT, might have included upgraded audio systems, but advanced features like Bluetooth connectivity or smartphone integration were not available.

Driver-Assistance: The Aveo lacked modern driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or automatic emergency braking.

Safety Features: Standard safety features included front airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were often optional, even on higher trims. Side airbags were typically not available.

Crash-Test Ratings: The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo generally received low to average crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). These ratings should be carefully considered when evaluating the vehicle's safety. Keep in mind that safety standards and crash testing have significantly advanced since 2007.

Overall, the 2007 Aveo prioritized affordability over advanced technology and safety features. Its bare-bones approach meant that drivers seeking modern conveniences or enhanced safety would need to look elsewhere.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo had a starting price around $10,000 to $14,000, depending on the trim and options. In today's used market, a 2007 Aveo can be found for anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000, contingent on condition, mileage, and location. The Aveo has experienced significant depreciation due to its reliability issues and overall lack of desirability compared to other subcompact cars. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, history of maintenance, and geographic location. A clean title and well-documented maintenance history can slightly improve resale value.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo generally has lower insurance costs due to its low value. Fuel economy is decent, contributing to savings. However, maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to the car's reliability issues. While the initial purchase price is low, long-term ownership costs can add up due to frequent repairs. It can be an economical choice initially but potentially costly in the long run if repairs are needed. Be prepared for higher than average maintenance bills.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Hatchback with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo Compare to Other Hatchback?

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo competed with vehicles like the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, and Nissan Versa in the subcompact segment. In terms of performance, the Aveo lagged behind most of its rivals. Its engine was less powerful, and its handling was less refined. Regarding features, the Aveo offered fewer standard and optional features compared to competitors like the Honda Fit, which boasted more versatile cargo space and available technology.

The Aveo's biggest weakness was its reliability. The Fit, Yaris, and Versa generally had better reliability records, requiring fewer repairs over their lifespan. In terms of price, the Aveo was typically one of the most affordable options in its class, which was its main selling point.

Alternatives: Given the Aveo's shortcomings, a used Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris would be a better choice for most buyers. These vehicles offer superior reliability, better performance, and more features, making them a more worthwhile investment in the long run. Even a Nissan Versa offers similar pricing with potentially greater reliability.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo a Good Hatchback?

The 2007 Chevrolet Aveo is ideally suited for budget-conscious buyers who need basic transportation and are willing to accept compromises in performance, features, and reliability. Whether it's worth buying depends on its current condition and price.

It's generally only worth considering if the price is very low and the car has been well-maintained. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended. Given the Aveo's age, buying a used example is the only option. Even then, be aware of the potential for costly repairs. For most buyers, spending a little more on a more reliable alternative like a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris is a wiser investment.

This car would start up on the equator or in the Arctic.

This car would start up on the equator or in the Arctic. It doesn't matter to be hotter cold. The motor will run no matter what the cars fall apart around. The motor literally my actual rusted off. It doesn't have a frame. I welded the stuff back on and I still am driving the car. It drives like brand new still with 230000 miles on it.

Cute but unreliable

I had this car for 4 years and everything that could go out on it did. I'm talking radiator, alternator, head gasket, serpentine belt, AC twice, battery twice....not reliable and cost me a lot to repair.
