The Good
The 2017 Chevrolet SS boasts exhilarating V8 performance, comfortable ride quality, and a surprisingly spacious interior. It's reasonably reliable and offers good value for its performance level. For emotional buyers, it delivers raw power and a unique sleeper look. Practical buyers appreciate its sedan practicality and long list of standard features.
The Bad
The 2017 Chevrolet SS has a few weaknesses. Fuel economy is poor due to the large V8 engine. Some owners find the styling too bland or understated. Also, parts can be more difficult to source and more expensive due to its Australian origins. Be mindful of potential AFM (Active Fuel Management) issues and differential bushing wear.

What Problems Does the 2017 Chevrolet SS Have?
Regarding recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA website for any open recalls specific to the VIN of the vehicle in question. While there haven't been widespread, major recalls directly impacting the 2017 model year specifically, it's always prudent to verify. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the AFM system and the availability of replacement parts, given the car's Australian heritage and limited production run. Preventative maintenance is key to mitigating potential problems and ensuring the car's longevity.
How long will the 2017 Chevrolet SS last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and forward collision alert. It also has automatic parking assist, which can help with parallel and perpendicular parking.
Safety features encompass stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags. The optional sunroof was the only major standalone option besides the spare tire kit. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were generally positive. It's important to check the official NHTSA website for specific crash test results related to the 2017 model year. Overall, the 2017 Chevrolet SS offers a good blend of tech, entertainment, and safety features expected of a performance sedan in its class.

How Does the 2017 Chevrolet SS Compare to Other Sedan?
Feature-wise, the SS is well-equipped. Regarding reliability, the SS is generally solid, but the German cars can be less reliable. Price-wise, the SS offered good value for its performance.
Similar alternatives include the Pontiac G8 GXP (predecessor) and the aforementioned Charger/300 SRT. Whether one is a "better" alternative depends on individual preferences. If prioritizing pure V8 power and sleeper styling, the SS is an excellent choice. If seeking more aggressive looks, the Charger is a better fit. For a more refined driving experience, the German options might be considered, but with caveats regarding cost and reliability.

Never thought driving could be so much fun! This is my first performance car and I never thought driving could be so enjoyable. With the four doors and space provided the fun can be shared by others. This is an American Throwback from a time when the USA did this best.

Best car I’ve ownedThe Chevy SS will blow your mind with the power it puts out. It’s a 4 door sedan that get you to the grocery store but will blow the others off the road from red light to red light it’s sleek but will kick xxx when needed

Amazing Value For The Money!!I’ve owned my 17 SS for over two years and currently have 45k miles on it. Besides oil, filters and tires it has been bulletproof. The small block sounds amazing especially on a cold start in sport or performance mode. This is such a well balanced sedan with room inside and a trunk. It’s rarity is fun as weekly someone asks me ...what is it?? If you never had the opportunity to own one and are looking for a reliable performance sedan nothing can come close to this car. I traded a 14 Audi S6 for this car and actually enjoy driving my SS better than the S6. I only wish GM would’ve shipped the tooling here after Australia ceased production. For the money this is the best performance sedan that GM has ever built.

Just a fantastic carI have a 2017 with the manual transmission Orange Blast color. No matter where I go and park it, more often than not someone comes up to me and asks " what kind of car is this ? " I have the Holden badges on it which really adds to its interest. The reaction is always just... WOW !

Excellent performance, power and handlingThis car is such fun to drive. It has power to spare, grips the road like a champ and looks inconspicuous driving down the road. Has room for the whole family and an enormous trunk for those quick (and I do mean quick) trips to the grocery store. This car is a gem. Not many options, but GM only imported about 3000 per year, so this makes sense. The infotainment system wasn't nearly as good as the one in my wife's Ford, but that isn't an issue for this car specifically, and it still worked pretty good. Excellent navigation system. The stabili-trac system took away my only concern, and that was that much hp and torque in a rear wheel drive car that I would be driving in Michigan winters. The magnetic ride control is I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E. I thought it was just marketing mumbo-jumbo when I first saw it described in a Chevy truck commercial, but it is the real deal. Best car I've ever owned. And not by a little bit either.

Fun to driveThe seats are a bit hard so I give it 4 stars for comfort. What can I say, 2 years later and I can still get over 90% of what I paid for it, very few cars that can do that. Basically this is a camaro for those of us with kids. I take it on ski trips with snow tires and it is a fun car to drive on the mountains. I cannot recommend it for long trips... but just buy another more cushy car for that and keep the SS for 2-3 hour adrenaline loaded trips

Great carAmazing car for the money. Great usable space. This car may be the last of its kind, v8 powered, option for a manual transmission, and seating for a family of 5.

Incredible family sedanI have owned this vehicle previously and although it was totaled in an accident I had to acquire another. My personal preference is a manual transmission which is why I first looked at this vehicle. It is hard to find a vehicle that seats 5 has this much space, power, comes with an option for a manual transmission, and is in this price point. The Cadillac ATS-V would be a runner up, but it doesn’t have the sound and feel of a V8, is smaller and more expensive. The only reason I knocked it down a star in exterior is because it has more chrome than I care for.
