Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2013 Dodge Dart marked Dodge's return to the compact car segment. A front-wheel-drive sedan, the Dart aimed to blend Italian design (influenced by Fiat) with American practicality. Model years ranged from 2013-2016. Key trims included the SE, SXT, Rallye, Limited, and GT. The pricing range when new was approximately $16,000 to $25,000. Its distinctive styling and available technology, such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen, were designed to attract younger buyers looking for something different.
The Good

The 2013 Dodge Dart offered a stylish and comfortable ride, appealing to emotional buyers with its sporty design. The available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen and interior customization options were also attractive. For practical buyers, it provided decent fuel efficiency with certain engines and offered good value for its price point.

The Bad

The 2013 Dodge Dart suffered from some reliability issues, including electrical problems, transmission issues (especially with the dual-clutch automatic), and engine problems. The 2.0L engine was often criticized for feeling underpowered. Potential buyers should carefully inspect the vehicle's maintenance history and consider a pre-purchase inspection.

What Problems Does the 2013 Dodge Dart Have?

The 2013 Dodge Dart has garnered numerous complaints regarding reliability. Common issues include problems with the electrical system, such as malfunctioning sensors, flickering lights, and issues with the Uconnect infotainment system. Transmission problems, particularly with the Fiat-sourced dual-clutch automatic transmission offered with the 1.4L turbo engine, have been frequently reported. Drivers have noted rough shifting, hesitation, and complete transmission failure. Engine problems, including stalling, oil leaks, and premature wear, have also been reported across various engine options. Some owners have experienced issues with the air conditioning system and power windows. Recalls have been issued for various issues, including problems with the powertrain control module (PCM), brake boosters, and fuel tank welds. Long-term reliability is a significant concern for the 2013 Dodge Dart. Over time, many owners have reported a decline in performance, increased repair costs, and frustration with the vehicle's overall dependability. Potential buyers should carefully research the specific vehicle's history and maintenance records before making a purchase.

How long will the 2013 Dodge Dart last?

With proper maintenance, a 2013 Dodge Dart might reach 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-13 years of service. However, due to reported reliability issues, achieving this lifespan depends heavily on diligent maintenance and addressing problems promptly. Long-term durability is a concern, with potential weaknesses including transmission failure, electrical issues, and engine wear. Neglecting maintenance will significantly shorten its lifespan and increase the likelihood of costly repairs. Regular oil changes, timely repairs, and careful driving habits are crucial for maximizing its lifespan.

I bought my 2013 Dodge dart brand new in November of 2012. My kids called it my in life crisis car I called it My last car I'm ever going to buy 😂 it is now April of 2024 and I have 24,500 mi on the car and the only thing I've had to do was normal maintenance, change oil and replace tires. I love the Dodge dart and I checked the gas mileage last weekend after a trip and I got 32 mi to the gallon. Very happy! When I dye my grandson will be happy to have it also.

The car was as advertised, test drove perfectly. My daughter loves the car, and I was very happy with price. Used cars are a risk, but the right dealer can make all the difference.
HELEN
I love my Dart - in 7 years only one problem that was taken care of by the warranty. Anything else was ware and tear related. I am so disappointed that Dodge is not making cars other than 2 that are overpriced sports cars.

Would absolutely not recommend this car to anybody one. Financed for this vehicle back in Jan 2020. Took a 5 day trip in March of that yr before covid, when I got back the car wouldn't start. Car was constantly back and forth in the shop until one day in Oct 2021 the car completely stopped running. I was fed up and decided I wouldn't pay another dime on this vehicle . You want to know how bad this vehicle is? I called the lien holder twice once in 2022, again in 2023 to get it voluntarily repossessed. Guess who still has possession of the vehicle? Not even the bank wants this vehicle back.

I have a 2013 Dodge Dart. It's been junk from almost day one. No car should have to have 3 trannys now they tell me it needs

I financed this car through a used car lot. I fell in love with it. I loved everything about it the look style space comfort truly my dream car. 2 weeks in the check engine light came on. I took it back to the car lot i got it from and they said it was a gas cap issue and replaced the part. Everything was fine. I drive it to work and home which is 15 miles round trip. About a month later my check engine light comes on again and this time my digital screen says service transmission. I didn't even own my car for 2 months the rpms would rev real high when I was going 10-15 miles an hour. Or I would be trying to exclarate and it wouldn't go into gear. Its an automatic. The used car place said they won't help me and to go to LKQ and buy a new tranny. There's nothing they can do. Ultimately I do love my dart... but I would not suggest buying one.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Dodge Dart offered a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. The available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system was a highlight, offering navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and smartphone integration (for its time). Entertainment features included a premium audio system (optional).
Driver-assistance features were relatively limited compared to modern vehicles but included available features like rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring.
Standard safety features included antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional safety features included a rearview camera and rear cross-traffic alert.
The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2013 Dodge Dart an overall safety rating of 5 stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it a "Good" rating in most crash tests, with some marginal ratings in certain areas. The Uconnect system, although advanced for its time, can be prone to glitches and may feel dated compared to modern infotainment systems. Overall, while the Dart had some appealing tech and safety features, its reliability in these areas is a factor to consider.

2013 Dodge Dart Prices and Market Value

The 2013 Dodge Dart had a starting MSRP of around $16,000 to $25,000 depending on the trim and options. Currently, used market prices range from approximately $4,000 to $9,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim. The Dart has experienced significant depreciation due to its reliability concerns and discontinuation. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and the specific trim level. Models with fewer reported issues and a well-documented maintenance history will command higher prices. Low demand and the abundance of alternatives also contribute to its low resale value.

2013 Dodge Dart Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2013 Dodge Dart are generally average for its class. Fuel costs depend on the engine and driving habits, but it's reasonably economical, especially the 1.4L turbo. However, maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to potential reliability issues. Long-term ownership costs can be unpredictable, as unexpected repairs can arise. While fuel economy is decent, the potential for costly repairs makes the Dart potentially more expensive to own than some competitors.

2013 Dodge Dart Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Dodge Dart is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Dodge Dart Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2013 Dodge Dart competed with the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, and Mazda3. In terms of performance, the Dart's 2.0L engine was often considered underpowered compared to rivals. While the 1.4L turbo offered better performance, it was less reliable. The Mazda3 and Ford Focus (pre-2015 transmission issues) offered a more engaging driving experience. Regarding features, the Dart's Uconnect system was a highlight, but rivals offered similar or better infotainment systems. Reliability was a significant weakness for the Dart, while the Civic and Corolla had a strong reputation for dependability. Price-wise, the Dart was competitive when new, but its rapid depreciation makes it a less compelling used car purchase compared to more reliable alternatives. Better alternatives include the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3 (especially models without rust issues), or even a Hyundai Elantra. These vehicles offer better reliability and resale value, making them more sensible choices for most buyers.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Dodge Dart a Good Sedan?

The 2013 Dodge Dart is ideal for budget-conscious buyers who prioritize styling and a distinctive interior over long-term reliability. It might be worth buying *only* if found at a very low price, with a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic. Specific trims like the GT offer sportier styling and features. However, due to its documented reliability issues and rapid depreciation, it's generally not recommended, especially compared to more reliable alternatives like the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. If you value reliability and low maintenance costs, there are significantly better options in the used car market.

Most finicky auromobile I've EVER owned!

I drove my Dart off the lot & within 3 months, the radio stopped working. Have had to replace the starter more than 3 times. "No start, '13 Dodge Dart" should be trending on Google as many forums & searches as their owners have done. I had mine towed home over 3 months ago because once again, "no start." O² and EMC (?)sensors have both been replaced several times. Also, there is some kind of linkage that kept breaking causing the gear shifter to have free play in it that results in....👩🏼‍🔧you guessed it! NO START!😂

it's discontinued for a reason

just, no. issues are guaranteed to be endless after the first one happens. just, don't even look at darts and if an agent tries to show you one - know they're trying to sell you the least reliable and quality car present on the lot and choose someone else to show you behicles
