The 2016 Dodge Dart, a compact sedan, aimed to revive the Dart nameplate. Produced from 2013 to 2016, it offered a stylish alternative in a competitive segment. Key trims included the SE, SXT, Aero, GT, and Limited. The Dart's initial pricing ranged from approximately $17,000 to $25,000. Its distinctive styling, available technology features, and relatively affordable price made it a popular choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking a more engaging driving experience than some of its competitors.
The Good

The 2016 Dodge Dart offered a stylish design and comfortable interior, appealing to emotional buyers. The GT trim provided a more engaging driving experience. Practically, it presented a good value proposition with its affordable price and available technology. While not class-leading in all areas, it offered a compelling blend of style, comfort, and features for the price.

The Bad

The 2016 Dodge Dart suffered from reported issues with its powertrain, particularly the automatic transmission. Reliability concerns, especially related to the 2.4L engine and electronic components, are important to consider. The Dart's fuel economy, especially with certain engine configurations, was not always competitive within its class. Parts availability can also be a potential concern given its discontinued status.

What Problems Does the 2016 Dodge Dart Have?

The 2016 Dodge Dart has faced several frequently reported problems. Transmission issues, particularly with the automatic transmission, are a common complaint, leading to rough shifting or complete failure. Engine problems, specifically related to the 2.4L engine (Tigershark), have also been reported, including excessive oil consumption and potential stalling. Electrical problems, encompassing issues with the infotainment system, power windows, and other electronic components, are also documented. Recalls for the Dodge Dart have addressed concerns such as potential engine stalling, brake light failure, and issues with the transmission shift cable. Long-term reliability is a concern due to these recurring issues. Earlier model years (2013-2014) seemed to have a higher incidence of problems, but issues persisted in the 2016 model year. Potential buyers should thoroughly inspect the vehicle's service history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any existing or potential issues. Addressing these potential problems early can save significant expenses and headaches down the road. Owners should also be aware of any outstanding recalls and ensure they have been addressed by a Dodge dealership.

How long will the 2016 Dodge Dart last?

With proper maintenance, a 2016 Dodge Dart can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-12 years of service. However, this is highly dependent on maintenance habits. Neglecting routine maintenance like oil changes, transmission servicing, and timely repairs will significantly shorten its lifespan. The Dart's long-term durability is questionable due to reported engine and transmission issues. Weaknesses include potential oil consumption problems with the 2.4L engine and the reliability of the automatic transmission. Addressing these potential issues proactively is crucial for extending the vehicle's lifespan. Rust is not a common issue, but checking undercarriage for corrosion is still recommended, especially in areas with harsh winters.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2016 Dodge Dart offered a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard tech included a basic audio system with AM/FM radio and CD player. Higher trims featured Uconnect infotainment system with touchscreen display (typically 8.4-inch), Bluetooth connectivity, and available navigation. Entertainment options included satellite radio and premium audio systems. Driver-assistance features were limited but included available features like rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring.
Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional safety features included rear cross-path detection and a rearview camera.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied. While some aspects received good ratings, others were marginal or acceptable. It's essential to review specific IIHS reports for the 2016 model year for detailed crash test results. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also provided safety ratings, which should be consulted for a comprehensive understanding of the Dart's safety performance. Overall, the Dart offered adequate safety and tech features for its class and era, but it wasn't a standout in these categories compared to some rivals. The Uconnect system, when equipped, was a highlight for its ease of use and functionality.

2016 Dodge Dart Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2016 Dodge Dart ranged from approximately $17,000 to $25,000 depending on the trim and options. Currently, used market prices typically range from $6,000 to $12,000, influenced by mileage, condition, and trim level. The Dart has experienced significant depreciation due to its discontinuation, reliability concerns, and less desirable reputation compared to some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include a clean title, documented maintenance history, and lower mileage. GT and Limited trims tend to hold slightly better value due to their enhanced features and desirability. However, overall resale value remains relatively low compared to other compact sedans.

2016 Dodge Dart Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2016 Dodge Dart are generally average for a compact sedan. Fuel costs can vary depending on the engine, with the 1.4L turbo offering the best economy. Maintenance costs can be moderate, but potential engine and transmission issues can lead to higher repair bills. Parts availability might become a concern as the vehicle ages. Overall, the Dart is moderately economical to own if major repairs are avoided. However, potential reliability issues can make long-term ownership costs unpredictable and potentially costly.

2016 Dodge Dart Insurance

Insurance for a 2016 Dodge Dart is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2016 Dodge Dart Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2016 Dodge Dart competed against the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, and Ford Focus. In terms of performance, the Mazda3 and Ford Focus generally offered a more engaging driving experience. The Civic and Corolla held an edge in reliability and resale value. Feature-wise, the Dart offered a competitive array, particularly with its available Uconnect system. However, its fuel economy wasn't always class-leading, especially with the 2.0L engine.

Compared to the Dart, the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla are generally considered more reliable choices. The Mazda3 provides a sportier driving experience with comparable fuel economy. The Ford Focus, while offering a similar level of features and driving dynamics, also had its share of reliability concerns. Alternatives to the Dart could include a used Mazda3 for its sporty handling and reliability, or a used Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla for their reputation for longevity and lower long-term costs. If prioritizing features and styling at a budget price, the Dart might still be considered, but potential buyers should be aware of the reliability risks. Ultimately, the Civic and Corolla offer better overall value due to their reliability and resale value, making them stronger recommendations.

Final Verdict: Is the 2016 Dodge Dart a Good Sedan?

The 2016 Dodge Dart is ideal for budget-conscious buyers who prioritize styling and available features over long-term reliability. It might be worth buying *used* if found in good condition with a thorough pre-purchase inspection. The GT trim, with its more powerful engine and sporty features, could be a more appealing option. However, potential buyers must be aware of the Dart's known reliability issues, particularly concerning the engine and transmission. Alternatives like the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla offer better long-term value and peace of mind. If reliability is a primary concern, exploring other options is highly recommended. Buying from a private seller who can provide detailed maintenance records might be preferable to a dealership in this case, allowing for a more transparent understanding of the vehicle's history. Due diligence is key.

Car is pretty nice just needs more back room

Pretty cramped for long legged people and long leg kids not much room in the back but overall seems to be a good car and it looks nice. Truck has decent space.

Don't drive in the rain

This car had 4 recalls in the first 2 years I owned it, it was terrible to drive in the rain I almost died hydroplaning several times. The Bluetooth never wanted to work half the time, the parts on the car we're all cheap generic crappy ones, I had to replace the battery once a year, the shifter broke off in the first year and I was on a road trip and had to drive 100 miles only being able to drive in forward. Paint chipped easily, seat's stained easily, it's so low to the ground every dip scrapes the bottom and if you pull to close to the sidewalk lawd be with you. Horrible car!!
