What Problems Does the 2017 Jaguar XF Have?

The 2017 Jaguar XF, while stylish and enjoyable to drive, has faced some frequently reported problems and reliability concerns. Common issues include glitches within the InControl Touch infotainment system, such as slow response times, screen freezes, and navigation errors. Electrical issues, encompassing problems with the car's electronics and sensors, have also been reported. Some owners have experienced coolant leaks, which can lead to overheating if not addressed promptly.

Long-term reliability is a general concern, as Jaguars have not historically scored as highly as some of their German and Japanese rivals in reliability surveys. Issues with the car's sensors and electronics tend to surface as the vehicle ages. While specific recalls may vary, it's important to check with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for any outstanding recalls related to the 2017 XF model year. These recalls typically address safety-related defects.

It's worth noting that the severity and frequency of these problems can vary from vehicle to vehicle. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any warning signs can help mitigate potential issues. Prospective buyers should carefully review the vehicle's maintenance history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any existing or potential problems.

How long will the 2017 Jaguar XF last?

With proper maintenance, a 2017 Jaguar XF can reasonably be expected to provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-12 years of service. However, consistent maintenance is critical. Weaknesses that appear over time often relate to the infotainment system, electrical components, and potential oil leaks. The supercharged V6 engine is generally considered more durable than the turbocharged four-cylinder if maintained well. Owners who follow recommended service schedules and address issues promptly will likely experience better long-term durability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2017 Jaguar XF comes equipped with a range of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. The standard InControl Touch infotainment system features an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. Higher trims offer the InControl Touch Pro system with a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a premium Meridian sound system. Driver-assistance features include a rearview camera, parking sensors, and available adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.

Safety features include standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. Optional safety features include a surround-view camera system and a driver condition monitor. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be consulted for detailed safety performance information. The 2017 XF generally performed well in crash tests, earning good ratings in several categories.

The InControl Apps feature allows smartphone integration, though its usability can be inconsistent. The available head-up display projects important information onto the windshield, enhancing the driving experience. Overall, the 2017 XF offers a competitive suite of tech and safety features for its class, although the infotainment system has been a source of complaint for some owners.

2017 Jaguar XF Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2017 Jaguar XF had a starting MSRP in the mid $40,000s, with higher trims exceeding $70,000. Current used market prices generally range from the low $20,000s to the upper $30,000s, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The XF depreciates faster than some of its German competitors due to factors such as its perceived reliability and brand image. Lower mileage, a clean vehicle history, and desirable options can positively impact resale value. Choosing a popular color combination can also help retain value.

2017 Jaguar XF Cost of Ownership

The 2017 Jaguar XF is generally considered more costly to own than some of its rivals. Insurance premiums tend to be higher due to its luxury status and potential repair costs. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the four-cylinder engine. However, maintenance and repair costs can be significant, particularly for specialized Jaguar service. Long-term ownership requires budgeting for potential repairs and proactive maintenance to avoid major issues.

reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2017 Jaguar XF Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2017 Jaguar XF competes against rivals like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and Lexus GS. In terms of performance, the XF offers a similar driving experience to the BMW 5 Series but may not be as sporty as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Feature-wise, the XF is well-equipped, though its infotainment system lags behind the latest offerings from Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

Reliability is where the XF falls short compared to the Lexus GS and, to a lesser extent, the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The Audi A6 also has had some reliability issues reported.

Price-wise, the XF is often competitively priced, especially on the used market. Alternatives to consider include the Lexus GS for superior reliability, the BMW 5 Series for a more engaging driving experience, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class for its advanced technology and luxurious interior. If reliability is a top priority, the Lexus GS is a significantly better choice. If a balance of performance, features, and price is desired, the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class are strong contenders. The Audi A6 is a similar alternative, but research into reliability for that model year is also recommended.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Jaguar XF a Good Sedan?

The 2017 Jaguar XF is ideal for buyers who appreciate British luxury and design, along with a comfortable and engaging driving experience. It's worth buying used if you prioritize style and value over absolute reliability. Consider the R-Sport trim for a sportier feel or the Prestige trim for added comfort features. Thoroughly inspect any used XF and obtain a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic to identify potential issues. Be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs compared to some competitors. If reliability is a major concern, consider alternative models like the Lexus GS.

Beautiful and Fun to Drive

Beautiful car and a blast to drive. It's super quick off the line. The handling is not as good as I would like. It would not be hard to loose control at high speeds. I had a major electrical problem at less than 35K miles where the passenger side lost power, all the parking sensors stopped working, and the passenger side airbags had an issue. It ended up being all related and was fixed under Waranty while the dealership have me a brand new Land Rover to cruise around in. Other than that I've had zero issues with the car. It's 5 years old with 38K miles on it so it has been gently used. Despite the gentle use the driver seat is showing ware and I have ceramic tint on the car to protect that interior. All the other seats are perfect. They could used better quality leather. Other than that the interior is perfect still. At 6' tall and 325 pounds the car is still plenty comfortable to drive. He backseats are relatively spacious for a mid sized sports sedan as well. Over all it's been a good car.

XF has been just perfect for 80,000+ miles

My 2017 XF-S has been a genuine joy. At 80,000 miles the car has been trouble free and taken me all over the country. I have needed out of town service twice for minor issues, Jaguar dealers have been incredible. I am keeping this car forever. It's a driver's car, a huge amount of fun and surprisingly reliable. I truly love this car, and that's rare.

Incredible car for value.

Compared to rival cars like the Mercedes E-Class, this car is equipped incredibly well. In fact I'd say, I have every option I was looking for and more (all except adaptive cruise, the option is available, just not on the one I bought), as well the car looks incredible, I'd say rivals the looks of the S-Class, but unfortunately where it falls short is the interior design. It just doesn't feel very elegant inside, but the prestige package is a must have. It adds the premium leather interior which makes up for where the rest of the interior falls short. Then the performance (35t model) is exactly as much as you need. Put in sport and dynamo mode, it will take off, push you back in the seat, but set it to Eco and it'll be soft and steady. The best of both worlds.

My Pampered Baby!

I am very happy with my Jag XF 35t. The power is so comfortable and effortless. Ride and handling are better than Cadillac and BMW. Exterior styling is beautiful in Black. Only wish it had more growl!

Beautiful car and fast

Jaguars are beautiful, but have historically been mechanically unreliable. I have owned seven over the years; this one has been reliable so far and, of course, is the most beautiful production car on the road.

The XF may be Jaguar's overall best car ever

I am shocked how much I love this XF-S, purchased as a CPO. It is a stunning performer, beautiful car, rather unique compared to the high volume competition and a true joy to drive.

What a Great Car!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT!

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love my Jag!!! I own a 2017 Jaguar XF 35T Premium. Hands down, this is the most enjoyable car that I have ever owned! I've bought a lot of vehicles in my time to include Mercedes, BMW, Lincoln, Maserati and Audi to name a few! I typically lease my vehicles for 3 years max and then get a new one. We purchased this car pre-owned as I thought to get away from leasing. No regrets whatsoever! I have not had a single problem nor even a single complaint with this car, it has been such a pleasure to own so far. It has such a nice look to it (mine is a black exterior with a black interior)... I constantly get compliments on it! The ride and power are just Superb on the 35T, not to mention the fuel economy is great with the amount of performance it delivers! Best seats in any car I've owned! These Jags have one of the best transmissions in the world! Same transmission used in many high end cars to include Audi, BMW, Aston Martin, Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Rolls Royce to name a few. It shifts so solid, quick and flawless and has instant power when needed. I keep finding new touches on my Jag that so many manufacturers miss. If you're considering one of these, the 2017's are a great model year to buy. Believe me, I did my research and no regrets at all. I'm trying to think of any complaints I can point out but I really don't have any. They just really made this one spot on! If you're tired of the common BMW, Audi, Mercedes (yes they start to get old after awhile)... buy the Jaguar XF... the 35T is the way to go! I recommend this car so highly!
