What Problems Does the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV have centered around the infotainment system's responsiveness and occasional glitches. Some owners have reported issues with the charging system, including slower-than-expected charging times or occasional charging failures. While generally considered reliable, the long-term durability of the battery pack is a concern, as with any PHEV. Battery degradation over time can lead to reduced electric range, which is a critical aspect of the vehicle's appeal.
Recalls can occur for various reasons, so it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any open recalls related to the 2022 Outlander PHEV. Specific recalls could address issues with the electrical system, airbags, or other safety-related components. Long-term reliability concerns primarily focus on the hybrid system's complex components, including the electric motors and battery pack. Proper maintenance and adherence to recommended service schedules are essential to mitigating potential issues and ensuring long-term reliability. The gasoline engine itself is generally considered reliable, but its performance is intertwined with the hybrid system, making overall system health critical.

How long will the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV last?

With regular maintenance, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV can reasonably be expected to provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-12 years of service. However, the key factor affecting its longevity is battery health. Gradual battery degradation will occur, reducing the electric range over time. Proper charging habits (avoiding extreme charging levels) and adherence to scheduled maintenance are crucial for maximizing battery lifespan and overall vehicle durability. Watch for potential wear and tear on hybrid-specific components.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes equipped with a range of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims often boast a larger screen and a premium sound system, such as a Rockford Fosgate setup. Driver-assistance features typically include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Some trims offer a multi-view camera system for enhanced parking assistance.
Optional features may include a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, and upgraded interior materials. Safety features include multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. Crash-test ratings from organizations like the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific safety performance data. These ratings evaluate the vehicle's performance in various crash scenarios and provide an overall safety assessment. Forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection is a common advanced safety feature. Check specific trim levels for availability of all features.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV had a starting MSRP around $37,000 and could reach over $43,000 for higher trims when new. Used market prices fluctuate based on condition, mileage, and trim level, but expect to find them in the $25,000 to $35,000 range. Depreciation is affected by factors like battery health, overall vehicle condition, and market demand for PHEVs. Models with lower mileage, well-maintained batteries, and a clean history tend to hold their value better. Government incentives for PHEVs can also indirectly impact resale value.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the Outlander PHEV are likely to be moderate, influenced by its safety features and vehicle type. Fuel costs can be very economical if utilizing the electric range for daily commuting. Maintenance should be similar to a standard SUV, with added attention to the hybrid system. Repairs specific to the electric powertrain could be more expensive. Overall, the Outlander PHEV can be economical if electric charging is maximized, but potential hybrid system repairs should be factored into long-term ownership costs.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV competes with other compact PHEV SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 Prime, Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid, and Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid. The RAV4 Prime offers superior performance and a longer electric range, but it comes at a higher price. The Ford Escape PHEV provides a similar driving experience but may lack some of the Outlander's standard features. The Hyundai Tucson PHEV offers a stylish design and competitive features.
Compared to these rivals, the Outlander PHEV often stands out with its competitive price point. However, its reliability record may not be as strong as Toyota's, and its electric range is generally shorter than the RAV4 Prime. In terms of features, it offers a good balance, but some competitors may have more advanced technology or a more refined interior.
If performance and a longer electric range are priorities, the RAV4 Prime is a better alternative, despite the higher cost. If budget is a primary concern, the Outlander PHEV offers a reasonable compromise. Consider the Hyundai Tucson PHEV for a well-rounded option with modern styling.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV a Good Sedan?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a plug-in hybrid SUV with decent electric range for daily commutes. It's worth buying if you prioritize fuel efficiency and can regularly charge the battery. Consider a used model for better value, but carefully inspect the battery's health. Higher trims offer more features, but the base model provides a good starting point. If reliability and a longer electric range are paramount, consider alternatives like the RAV4 Prime, but be prepared to pay more. Regular charging is crucial to maximizing the benefits of this PHEV.
