The 2017 Toyota Corolla iM is a compact hatchback that was introduced as a Scion iM before Scion was discontinued. As part of the Corolla family for a short period, it offered practicality and reliability. Available in a single trim level, it aimed at value and included a host of standard features. New pricing ranged from around $19,000 to $21,000. Its appeal lies in its sporty styling, comprehensive standard features, and Toyota's reputation for dependability.
The Good

The 2017 Corolla iM offers a blend of practicality and style. Its strengths include Toyota's renowned reliability, a comfortable ride, and attractive hatchback design. Fuel efficiency is a definite plus. For practical buyers, it offers value and dependability, while emotional buyers will appreciate its sporty appearance and standard features.

The Bad

While reliable, the 2017 Corolla iM isn't perfect. Its engine performance is adequate but not exhilarating. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) can feel uninspired. Some owners find the rear seats a bit cramped. Watch out for potential issues with the infotainment system and ensure proper maintenance has been performed.

Recalls for the 2017 Corolla iM have been relatively infrequent. It's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information using the vehicle's VIN.

Long-term reliability concerns are minimal. As with any vehicle, regular maintenance is key to longevity. Pay particular attention to CVT fluid changes, as neglected maintenance can lead to transmission problems over time. Monitor the condition of the brakes and suspension components, as these wear items will eventually require replacement. I love this car. I used to drive a rather old SUV and needed something a little smaller (i.e. a sedan or hatchback) for my rather tight parking stall. The Corolla iM /hatchback has the same body as the Corolla but with more trunk space. There's good leg space in both the front and back, and the entire design is quite lovely. Having a touchscreen is also awesome, as well as the ability to hook up my phone to it either via cord or bluetooth to deal with calls and listen to my playlist. Driving it is a charm. The brakes are way more sensitive than what I'm used to, but I've gotten a hang of them now. It also has a pre-collision braking system and lane departure alert (which you can turn off or change the sensitivity of). It's quite agile on the road. Great on gas, too. Other features include a remote-starter (which I'm certainly grateful for---I live in Edmonton and love the idea that I can start warming up my car from my apartment on the 10th floor; I'm also grateful for the heated seats) and side rear-view mirrors that fold up at the touch of a button for parking somewhere narrow. I would definitely recommend this car to friends and family. My only complaint, honestly, is that the horn is a little wimpy. Even so, both times that I've needed to use it, the other driver heard me perfectly fine.

My mom is 80 years old. She bought a 2017 Toyota Corolla IM brand new and it has 7500 original miles on it. She went to drive it and it left her stranded in the road it would not go over 35 miles an hour and she started smelling something is she explain to me was oil or something was burning getting hot. I'm in San Diego California and she's in fort Lauderdale Florida. Right now she's calling a tow truck I'm looking for any kind of recalls on this car because it has 7,500 Mi she should not be having any problem with the car. She's very meticulous about getting it serviced at the toyota dealership. She only drives to and from grocery stores and to and from church. Up until now she never had a problem with it.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2017 Toyota Corolla iM comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display audio system, featuring Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and a rearview camera. The infotainment system offers basic functionality but can feel somewhat dated compared to newer systems.

Standard driver-assistance features include Toyota Safety Sense-C (TSS-C), which includes a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams. These features enhance safety and driver awareness.

Optional features were limited, primarily consisting of a navigation system upgrade and a premium audio system. These add-ons provided enhanced entertainment and convenience but were not essential.

Crash-test ratings for the 2017 Corolla iM are generally positive. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it good ratings in most crashworthiness categories. The NHTSA also awarded it a high overall safety rating. These ratings provide peace of mind regarding the vehicle's ability to protect occupants in the event of a collision.

Great car !!!

This is a great car! I love the features, esp the sport function, which gives you a boost if you need to jump on it. Obviously, some people don't use this feature or don't know what it does. When getting on the freeway, I always use it, then simply turn it off when necessary. I usually get about 34-36 mpg on long trips and around town about 28-32mpg. The one and only complaint I have is that it is too low to the ground and sometimes it's very difficult to get in. If I move the driver's seat back, it makes it easier. I am the original owner of a 2017. The other features i like are the backup camera, electric side view mirrors, speak feature to make calls, the interior is gorgeous, the hatchback. I just really love this car. I have never had a problem with it. If you're looking for a reliable car, this is it!

Most well rounded car I've owned!

Is the perfect car!! The trunk will swallow up anything you give it, the legroom is excellent all around, it's super fun to drive, and the touch screen is super responsive compared to Honda's system.

Great Little Car

this car is well designed and fun to drive, fortunately the sound system is a decent quality this helps drown out the road noise at high speeds. the single speed trans feels like it's holding the car back, but sport mode lets the car get up and run fairly quickly. the voice automated system seems to have a hard time understanding what your asking it to do if you have the fan running or at freeway speeds due to the road noise. but all in all good interior and exterior design.

I love the car but the resale value sucks!!

This Corolla iM is really a fantastic car. The only problem is it's resale value is terrible. I love this car, from the styling to the tranny, this car is quick and nimble, has really great gas mileage to boot. I have gotten 47 MPG a few times, but the handling is superb , with the right tires it is fantastic. There are two issues with it, 1st. the hood is low and is a catcher of tiny stones so there are marks on it! No dents but paint loss! 2nd. is the air filter, I changed mine to a K&N, it works great now!
