The 2006 Nissan Quest is a minivan designed to transport families in comfort and style. Part of the third generation (2004-2009), it features a distinctive, somewhat polarizing exterior design. Key trims included the base S, SL, SE, and top-tier LE. When new, prices ranged from around $24,000 to $32,000. Its unique interior styling and powerful V6 engine were initially seen as standout features.
The Good

The 2006 Nissan Quest offers decent performance thanks to its V6 engine. From a practical perspective, its spacious interior provides ample room for passengers and cargo. Emotionally, the unique exterior styling might appeal to buyers seeking something different from the typical minivan, while its comfortable ride offers a relaxing experience.

The Bad

The 2006 Nissan Quest is known for potential transmission issues, electrical problems (especially with power doors), and premature brake wear. Owners should watch out for fluid leaks, unusual noises from the engine or transmission, and any malfunctioning electronic components. Reliability can be a concern with higher mileage examples.

What Problems Does the 2006 Nissan Quest Have?

The 2006 Nissan Quest has a history of reported problems, particularly concerning its transmission. Many owners have experienced transmission failure, requiring costly repairs or replacement. Electrical issues are also common, including problems with the power sliding doors, power windows, and various sensors. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system and premature brake wear.

Recalls have been issued for various issues, including problems with the brake light switch and potential fuel leaks. Owners should check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information related to their VIN.

Long-term reliability is a concern for the 2006 Quest. The aforementioned transmission and electrical problems can become more prevalent as the vehicle ages and accumulates mileage. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes, can help mitigate some of these issues, but it's important to be aware of the potential for significant repairs. Earlier model years (2004-2005) had even more pronounced issues, making the 2006 slightly more reliable, but still susceptible to problems.

How long will the 2006 Nissan Quest last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2006 Nissan Quest can potentially reach 200,000 miles or more. However, given their age, many examples are likely approaching or have already surpassed that mark. The lifespan heavily depends on how well the vehicle was maintained. Proper fluid changes (transmission, engine oil, coolant) are crucial. Long-term durability is hampered by the transmission and electrical issues. Rust can also become a problem in areas with harsh winters. Expect potential repairs related to suspension components, brakes, and engine sensors as the vehicle ages.

This thing is a piece of crap my dad bought it and had to replace the trash cvt transmission, its instrument cluster is extremely cheap and everything falls apart. I would rather get a honda odyssey or toyota sienna than this 2006 piece of crap

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2006 Nissan Quest offered a reasonable array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), front airbags, and side-impact airbags for front occupants. Higher trims like the LE offered features such as a DVD entertainment system with a flip-down screen for rear passengers and a premium Bose audio system.

Optional features included rear parking sensors. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. There was no adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, or lane-keeping assist.

In terms of safety ratings, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2006 Nissan Quest good overall crash test ratings, including five stars for frontal crash protection for the driver and passenger. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also rated the Quest well in its frontal offset crash test. However, it's important to remember that crash test standards have evolved since 2006, and newer vehicles generally offer better protection in collisions.

2006 Nissan Quest Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2006 Nissan Quest ranged from approximately $24,000 for the base S trim to around $32,000 for the top-of-the-line LE model. As of today, used market prices typically range from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location.

The Quest has experienced significant depreciation due to its age, higher repair incidence, and overall perception in the used minivan market. Factors affecting resale value include mechanical condition (especially the transmission), cosmetic condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has a clean title. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command a slightly higher premium.

2006 Nissan Quest Cost of Ownership

The 2006 Nissan Quest is generally considered costly to own long-term. While insurance costs are relatively average, potential repair bills, especially for transmission and electrical issues, can significantly increase ownership expenses. Fuel economy is mediocre, contributing to higher running costs. Maintenance costs can be moderate if regular servicing is performed, but unexpected repairs can quickly escalate the overall cost. Due to potential issues, budgeting for repairs is crucial.

2006 Nissan Quest Insurance

Insurance for a 2006 Nissan Quest is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Van with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2006 Nissan Quest Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Van?

The 2006 Nissan Quest competed with minivans like the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Caravan. In terms of performance, the Quest's V6 engine was competitive. Feature-wise, it offered similar amenities to its rivals, especially in higher trims. However, the Quest falls short in reliability compared to the Odyssey and Sienna, which are known for their longevity. While the Chrysler and Dodge minivans were generally less expensive, they also had their own reliability concerns.

Given the age and potential reliability issues of the 2006 Quest, a better alternative might be a slightly newer Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, even if it means spending a bit more upfront. These models generally offer better long-term reliability and resale value. If budget is a major constraint, a well-maintained Dodge Grand Caravan could be considered, but be prepared for potential maintenance costs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Nissan Quest a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Van?

The 2006 Nissan Quest might appeal to buyers seeking a budget-friendly minivan with a unique design and spacious interior. However, its reliability issues make it a risky purchase. It's only worth considering if you can find a well-maintained example at a very low price and are prepared for potential repairs. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is crucial. Avoid models with a history of transmission problems or electrical issues. Due to its age and potential for problems, it's generally not recommended unless budget is extremely limited and you're willing to accept the risks.

Awesome

We were looking for a reliable, comfortable, affordable use van that would allow room for our children plus friends. We have never owned a vehicle that had so many features. We have not owned it for long but are totally pleased.

Long Distance Cruiser

My 2006 Nissan has 158,000 miles on it and runs perfectly. I bought this vehicle used with just over 100,000 on it. In the past 6 months I have completed 2 trips from California to Florida and return carrying a full load of boxes and furniture. That is more than 5000 miles round trip. Its a long hard road with hills and heat and you would not want to make this trip in an unreliable vehicle. It will cruise all day at 80mph and climb those hills well under full load. The engine and transmission give me a feeling of reliability. Its a big heavy and powerful vehicle that if treated well will last for years.

Best Van I've EVER Owned!

I've owned 4 minivans. This is the BEST by far! Extremely smooth ride, hugs the curves, gas mileage keeps getting just a little bit better as time goes by - about 26 mpg. I love the center controls - thought I wouldn't like it, but I no longer have to look under the steering wheel at the gauges anymore - I just glance to the right. Lots of cup holders, seats lay all the way back - not halfway like other vans. Love the way the rear bench seat folds into the floor for extra room. The seats are very comfortable. Can not find anything that I do not like about this van - purchased it with only 30,000 miles on it and have owned it for 4 months. Love it more and more every day. My husband brags about it to everyone saying "I never thought I'd get excited over a mini-van - but this thing is awesome!"
