Analysis
What Problems Does the 2007 Volvo S40 Have?
Recalls for the 2007 S40 were issued for potential fuel pump relay failures, which could lead to the engine stalling, and for issues related to the brake light switch, which could prevent the brake lights from illuminating.
Long-term reliability concerns include the potential for oil leaks as the engine ages, particularly around the turbocharger on the T5 models. Suspension components, such as control arm bushings and struts, may require replacement over time due to wear and tear. Proper and timely maintenance, including regular oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial to mitigate these potential issues and extend the vehicle's lifespan. The 2007 model year, being several years old now, will likely show more wear and tear compared to newer models, so a thorough pre-purchase inspection is highly recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety was a major focus for Volvo, and the 2007 S40 included standard features like anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), front and side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Optional features included bi-xenon headlights.
Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally very good. The IIHS gave the S40 a "Good" rating in most crash tests. NHTSA awarded it four or five stars in frontal and side-impact crash tests. These strong safety ratings contribute to the S40's appeal as a safe and reliable vehicle. While lacking the advanced driver-assistance systems of newer vehicles, the S40's robust construction and comprehensive safety features provided a high level of protection for its occupants.

How Does the 2007 Volvo S40 Compare to Other Sedan?
The Acura TSX offers a more engaging driving experience and slightly better reliability. The BMW 3 Series provides superior handling but can be more expensive to maintain. The Mazda3 is a more affordable and reliable option with sporty handling. If reliability and lower running costs are priorities, the Mazda3 or Acura TSX might be better choices. If a blend of safety, comfort, and unique design is desired, the S40 remains a compelling option. However, be prepared for potentially higher repair costs compared to Japanese competitors.

Great so far! This car is in very good condition even though it's 13 years old. We just got it in our possession yesterday since it still needed detailed but it is a great little car so far.

Great longevityCar has been very reliable and dependable. It does have the typical Volvo sunroof drain issue that needs to be addressed annually or else you will have a pool of water in your footwell. Went thru drivers side bearings more than usual but truly that's about it. Fantastic reliability and safety.

Drives better than most modern compact sedansCar drives great, more than adequate power. Pretty good on gas. Nice torque hills are not an issue. Only selling because I own 2 others.

Efficient, safe and sportyFun and value for the money, would recommend and buy this model again. Missing a Bluetooth feature but overall canβt find much else to want except no pins in the floor for mats.

Worst car ever ownedxxxx car. 2.0 disel. I the first moth the dor sensors broke, indicating all dors open all the time. In the fift month the pump for the stearing blew. The plate that closes the intake at shot down got stuck twise, had to have it fixed at the dealerahip. Ac broke. Alternator finished. The flywheel leaked silocon in the clutch and destroied everytjing in there. All this happend in 3 years. Newer buing a Volvo again. And the dealership was just xxxx all the time. I had loud noices at start up sometimes, and sommetimes a real hard shut down. Had them have a look and they found nothing. They did not put this in the log book so when the clutch went they told me no it was not theyr resposability.

The best vehicle I?ve ever ownedI love my S40. I bought it with a manual transmission and all wheel drive and I don?t regret it at all. The engine is responsive and quick, the car has loads of torque across the entire rev range, and the turbo is quick. The chassis is firm. There?s almost no body roll or chassis movements over bumps and potholes. The all wheel drive system along with Volvo safety tech allows me to drive normal roadway speeds in snowy or wet conditions. The interior is minimalistic and well laid out with extremely comfortable seats. I absolutely love this car.

GREAT CAR FOR THE MONEY! Dependable/Safe/A Volvo!GREAT CAR FOR THE MONEY! Dependable, safe, great in snow and rain (AWD), excellent gas mileage for a heavy car (30mpg+), always serviced at Volvo dealership in Exeter, NH (records available), strong Volvo design.

Very Reliable, Understated StyleThis car has been very reliable and can make it through all conditions. The AWD, great balance, and overall handling make it unstoppable through all winter conditions and fun to drive in warmer weather.

One Owner, 100% Volvo-Serviced S40 T5, $4,900This is an excellent. inexpensive, reliable , safe Volvo. It has been owned for the past 10 years by my 84-year-old Mother in Derry, NH. She had it serviced at the dealership where she bought it (Exeter, NH) the entire time. We recently replaced two tires and put in a new battery. The T5 version of the S40 has great pickup and handling, as well as the usual Volvo weight and solid, safe construction and multiple airbags.

First car and it was a good choice. It didn't let me down so far. the gas mileage is a bit low but everything else about my Volvo is good.
