The 2023 Tesla Model 3 is an all-electric compact sedan that revolutionized the EV market. Introduced in 2017, it's known for its sleek design and advanced technology. Key trims include the base Model 3, Long Range, and Performance. The pricing ranges approximately from $40,000 to $55,000. Its popularity stems from its impressive range, rapid acceleration, and access to Tesla's Supercharger network. It stands out due to its minimalist interior and over-the-air software updates.
The Good

The 2023 Tesla Model 3 offers exhilarating performance with instant torque and quick acceleration, appealing to emotional buyers. Practically, it boasts exceptional energy efficiency, reducing running costs. The minimalist design is both stylish and functional. While reliability can be debated, many find it a good value proposition due to lower fuel and maintenance expenses and decent comfort on daily drives.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2023 Tesla Model 3 include build quality inconsistencies, which can range from panel gaps to paint imperfections. The minimalist interior, while stylish, might lack traditional controls some drivers prefer. Repair costs can be high due to specialized parts and labor. Watch out for battery degradation over time, especially with frequent DC fast charging.

What Problems Does the 2023 Tesla Model 3 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2023 Tesla Model 3, and Tesla vehicles in general, often revolve around build quality, including panel gaps, paint imperfections, and inconsistent trim alignment. Software glitches, though often resolved with updates, can sometimes affect functionality. The suspension components, particularly the lower control arms, have been subjects of concerns regarding premature wear and tear, leading to recalls in some instances. Battery degradation is a long-term reliability concern, though Tesla's battery management system is designed to mitigate this. Earlier Model 3 years (2017-2019) faced more significant issues compared to the 2023 model, such as issues with the MCU (Media Control Unit) that could lead to screen failure. Although improved, the 2023 model is still subject to some of the quality control concerns common across the Tesla lineup. Some owners also report issues with the HVAC system, specifically with the heat pump in colder climates, leading to reduced heating performance. Tire wear can also be an issue, especially with the Performance trim due to its aggressive driving dynamics.

How long will the 2023 Tesla Model 3 last?

With good maintenance habits, the 2023 Tesla Model 3 can likely provide 200,000 miles or more of service. Many owners report exceeding this mark. Battery life is a key factor; with proper charging habits (avoiding frequent full charges and discharges), the battery should retain significant capacity even after several years. Long-term durability depends heavily on climate and driving conditions. Corrosion from road salt can be a concern in colder regions. Suspension components and other wear items will eventually require replacement. Some owners report that interior materials like the vegan leather seats may show wear over time.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2023 Tesla Model 3 boasts a minimalist interior dominated by a 15-inch touchscreen that controls almost all vehicle functions.

Tech & Entertainment:
It includes navigation, Bluetooth, and over-the-air software updates. Premium Connectivity (subscription required) adds live traffic visualization, satellite maps, and streaming video.

Driver-Assistance:
Standard Autopilot provides automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Optional Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability adds Navigate on Autopilot, automatic lane changes, autopark, summon, and traffic light and stop sign control. FSD remains a subject of ongoing development and regulatory scrutiny.

Safety Features:
It has multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and traction control.

Optional Features:
Include upgraded audio systems and various exterior colors.

Crash-Test Ratings:
The Tesla Model 3 has consistently received excellent safety ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It typically earns 5-star overall safety ratings from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, indicating robust crash protection.

2023 Tesla Model 3 Prices and Market Value

The 2023 Tesla Model 3 started around $40,000 for the base model and climbed to $55,000+ for the Performance trim when new. Used market prices vary depending on mileage, condition, and trim, generally ranging from $30,000 to $50,000. Depreciation has been relatively low compared to other vehicles, partly due to high demand for EVs and Tesla's brand reputation. Factors affecting resale value include battery health, accident history, mileage, and whether Full Self-Driving Capability is included. As newer models and battery technologies emerge, older Model 3s may experience slightly higher depreciation.

2023 Tesla Model 3 Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2023 Tesla Model 3 can be higher than average due to its technology and repair costs. "Fuel" costs (electricity) are significantly lower than gasoline. Maintenance is generally less expensive due to fewer moving parts, but repairs can be costly due to specialized technicians and parts. Long-term ownership costs are generally economical due to lower fuel and maintenance needs, offsetting potentially higher insurance premiums. It is relatively economical to own compared to similar gas-powered cars.

2023 Tesla Model 3 Insurance

Insurance for a 2023 Tesla Model 3 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2023 Tesla Model 3 Compare to Other Sedan?

Key rivals to the 2023 Tesla Model 3 include the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Polestar 2, BMW i4, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. In terms of performance, the Model 3 Performance stands out with its blistering acceleration, although the Mach-E GT offers comparable thrills. Features-wise, Tesla's Autopilot is a strong selling point, though other brands are catching up with their driver-assistance systems. Reliability remains a concern for Tesla, while brands like Hyundai and BMW generally have stronger reliability records. Price-wise, the Model 3 is competitively positioned, though incentives can affect the overall cost. The Ioniq 6 offers a compelling alternative with its distinctive design and strong value. The Polestar 2 provides a more luxurious interior and a focus on driving dynamics. The BMW i4 combines electric power with BMW's renowned driving experience. The Mustang Mach-E provides similar range and performance with SUV practicality. Depending on priorities (performance, reliability, features, price), each rival presents a viable alternative. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 might be a better option for someone prioritizing value and reliability; the BMW i4 for a more traditional luxury experience; the Polestar 2 for Scandanavian design and build quality; and the Mach-E for more SUV practicality.

Fun, fast

I really love this car. It looks great, is very fast, and is all-around fun to drive. The one-pedal braking is the best feature, IMO. Would purchase again.

Want to love the car but comes with baggage

If you want an electric sedan perhaps this might be a good choice given its access to superchargers. However, you would have to settle for squeaks, rattling sounds, shoddy workmanship, misaligned panels, interior with workers fingerprints. Service Center can be helpful but often times parrot scripted lines. Also very clumsy with work. In general feels like I'm walking on thin ice and not know what going to break. 1) superchargring is great 2) Tesla revolutionized cars 3) Unfortunately model 3, Y are rickety vehicles that I love to drive but the squeaks and rattles annoy me I would hate to go back to a regular gas car but unfortunately Corolla, Prius, Civics, Camry, Accords have better quality and reliability. There are plenty of fans who will vouch and dismiss criticisms. However, I recommend that you rent a car for 5 days and test it before spending $40k.

Tesla all the way, Rivian second.

Got the 2023 standards model 3 and it far exceeds any other car, especially ICE. Every single car I will own from here on out will be a Tesla. The other ev brands can't compete. Will also get the Rivian R1S, that is the only other brand I would consider. Don't buy an EV from a company that also makes gas cars unless you like throwing away $.

2022 Tesla Model 3 RWD - A Great Car!

I own a 2022 Tesla Model 3 RWD. It has LFP batteries and I can charge it to 100%. It's degraded about 3% after 15 months, so not too bad on the battery. It's been great, with no problems that were Tesla's fault. A truly great car and highly recommended!

Best Car I’ve Owned

It’s so much better than expected and my expectations were high. There are so many lies out there about Tesla’s but they are easy to drive and easy to own, and more affordable than most think. I’ve had a few minor issues but Tesla took care of them quickly. I’ll never go back.

We love our model 3 so much my wife is getting a Y

Hands down the best car experience my wife and I have ever had. After buying our model 3 we have basically become a 1 car family simply because neither of us like driving a non tesla anymore. My wife stated that she will be getting a model Y next and no other car is even an option to look at.

Nothing better

Remember that feeling when you got a smartphone and were amazed with how much better it was to your old phone that could only text? Once you own a Tesla, you won’t go back. It’s that good.

Don’t underestimate Tesla

Though financially TSLA has ruined me because I keep shorting their stock the vehicles themselves are very good. My Tesla is the best car I’ve owned & I certainly don’t miss the visits to the gas station. Fit & finish on my car is excellent and interior noise levels are lower than my Audi Q7.
