What Problems Does the 2019 Tesla Model 3 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Tesla Model 3 often revolved around build quality. Common complaints included misaligned body panels, paint imperfections, and issues with the interior trim. Some owners reported problems with the touchscreen display freezing or malfunctioning. There have also been reports of premature wear on suspension components and occasional issues with the charging system.

Recalls for the 2019 Model 3 included issues with the wiring harness for the rearview camera, potentially causing the camera to fail, and problems with the side repeater cameras. There was also a recall related to improperly secured seat belts.

Long-term reliability concerns primarily focus on battery degradation, which can reduce the vehicle's range over time. The rate of degradation varies depending on usage and charging habits. Some owners have also reported issues with the door handles and the automatic trunk not functioning correctly. While software updates can address some problems, physical defects require service appointments. It's important to review the vehicle's history for any prior repairs or recalls when considering a used 2019 Model 3.

How long will the 2019 Tesla Model 3 last?

Based on owner data and typical maintenance habits, a 2019 Tesla Model 3 can reasonably be expected to provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service before major component failures become likely. However, this depends heavily on charging habits and climate. Frequent fast charging and extreme temperatures can accelerate battery degradation. Long-term weaknesses may include reduced battery capacity, wear on suspension components, and potential failure of electronic components like the touchscreen. Careful maintenance and moderate usage can significantly extend its lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Tesla Model 3 boasts a minimalist interior dominated by a 15-inch touchscreen that controls almost all vehicle functions, including navigation, climate control, and entertainment. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot, and over-the-air software updates. Entertainment options include streaming music and video services (subscription may be required).

Driver-assistance features include standard Autopilot, which provides adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. Optional Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD) adds features like automatic lane changes, automatic parking, and traffic light and stop sign control, although it's not truly "self-driving" and requires driver supervision.

Safety features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and eight cameras providing 360-degree visibility. The 2019 Tesla Model 3 received excellent crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). NHTSA awarded it a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick+.

2019 Tesla Model 3 Prices and Market Value

The 2019 Tesla Model 3 originally ranged from approximately $35,000 for the Standard Range Plus to $60,000 for the Performance model. Used market prices currently range from $25,000 to $40,000, depending on trim, mileage, and condition. Depreciation has been relatively low compared to other vehicles, due to strong demand for EVs and Tesla's brand reputation. Factors affecting resale value include battery health, mileage, accident history, and the availability of Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD). Vehicles with FSD generally command a higher resale price.

2019 Tesla Model 3 Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2019 Tesla Model 3 can be higher than average due to its advanced technology and repair costs. "Fuel" costs (electricity) are significantly lower than gasoline. Maintenance is generally less frequent than gasoline cars, but repairs can be expensive due to the specialized nature of the components. Long-term ownership costs are generally considered economical, particularly with lower fuel and maintenance expenses, but insurance and potential battery replacement costs should be factored in.

2019 Tesla Model 3 Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Tesla Model 3 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Tesla Model 3 Compare to Other Sedan?

Key rivals to the 2019 Tesla Model 3 include the Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Nissan Leaf. In terms of performance, the Model 3, especially the Performance trim, offers superior acceleration and handling. While competitors may offer similar range, Tesla's Supercharger network provides a significant advantage for long-distance travel.

Regarding features, the Model 3's minimalist interior and advanced technology, including Autopilot, set it apart. However, competitors may offer more conventional interiors and simpler infotainment systems, which some buyers prefer. In terms of reliability, the Model 3 has faced some challenges, while competitors like the Hyundai Kona Electric have generally proven more reliable. Price-wise, the Model 3 is typically more expensive than the Bolt and Leaf but offers more performance and range.

Alternatives to consider include the Polestar 2 and BMW i4 (later models), offering a blend of performance, luxury, and technology. If reliability is a primary concern, the Hyundai Kona Electric is a strong alternative. However, for range, performance, and access to a robust charging network, the Model 3 remains a compelling choice.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Tesla Model 3 a Good Sedan?

The 2019 Tesla Model 3 is ideal for tech-savvy buyers seeking an engaging driving experience, long range, and access to a reliable charging network. It's worth buying if you prioritize performance, efficiency, and advanced features. However, be mindful of potential build quality issues and higher repair costs. A used 2019 Model 3 can be a good value, but carefully inspect the battery health and accident history. The Long Range or Performance trims offer the best balance of range and performance. Consider a newer model if a more refined interior and improved reliability are important factors.

Just buy one!!

I’ve had my M3P for 5 days and I freaking love it! Controls take some time to get used to where everything is. I’ve had maybe 30 cars and this is my favorite by far. I highly recommend if you’re in the fence, just buy one. You only live once!

Most enjoyable car I've ever owned

Absolutely love my Tesla. So much so we bought a 2nd one for the family. Smooth drive and zero maintenances in two years. Frequent software updates means I got new features long after purchase. Though I do suggest avoiding FSD. That's vaporware and will not be released in the lifetime of vehicles sold today.

Tesla 3 Performance is an exotic in four door clot

So fast, stable and responsive! Like being squirted out of a hose when you hit the accelerator. Comfort is first-class, too. I have had back surgery, but I never get fatigued or sore in this car, not matter how long I drive for. I couldn't say that about my Porsche's. So many "WOW" features, I feel like I learn something cool about this car every time I drive it. You will NOT be disappointed!

Best car I have ever driven

The best car for the money on the market today. It drives much better than my old "German Engineered Road Sedan". Handles corners better than my old Porsche 911,

It's not a car, It's a spaceship on wheels.

The near perfect 50/50 weight distribution is something the best of Ferraris have a hard time achieving, combined with the fact that the center of gravity is literally under the floor, lower than in any other vehicle, means the weight goes unnoticed and the overall feeling is of constant control and immense power which gives it very good cornering and makes it a true delight to drive. Paired with the fact that electric vehicles receive %100 torque immediately means that no matter what or when, your power return is immense and immediate, bolting you off the line, or into the next lane. The vehicle itself is comfortable, well built and clean, anytime I get back into a regular vehicle, I look at the 5000 different knobs, valves and controls with confusion and disgust. Why is all that clutter and mess even needed, why not have the clean elegance of the Model 3? Unlike any other vehicle on the planet (aside from Tesla's range), this one gets software updates so this vehicle actually improves over time instead of just aging. which is a paradigm shift for the vehicle industry as a whole. This means you're constantly getting new games new features, bug fixes and actual improvements, such as increased range and speed boosts. And of course regular improvements to Autopilot and FSD. Autopilot and FSD is a must and a true lifesaver in more than one occasion, it makes driving the car so much easier safer and fun, and alone makes Tesla vehicles the only smart vehicle to purchase. In addition the Model 3 is also the safest vehicle ever tested by NHTSA, IIHS, and EuroNCAP. The fact that it may be able to operate as a robotaxi in the future and make money for you while not being used, is just the bonus on top! When you factor in the total cost of ownership of the vehicle, this ends up drastically cheaper than any comparable compact luxury sedan, and if you do a lot of driving, it even ends up cheaper then a used Honda Civic.
