The 2016 Nissan 370Z is a direct descendant of the legendary Z car lineage, a line of sporty coupes dating back to the 1970s. It's a two-door, rear-wheel-drive sports car available as a coupe or roadster. Model years for this generation span 2009-2020. Key trims include base, Sport, Sport Tech, Touring, and Nismo. The pricing range when new was roughly $30,000 to $47,000. It stands out for its potent V6 engine, sharp handling, and classic sports car feel, offering a raw and engaging driving experience.
The Good

The 2016 Nissan 370Z offers thrilling performance with its powerful V6 engine and responsive handling, appealing to enthusiasts. Its proven reliability provides peace of mind for practical buyers. The iconic design turns heads, while the relatively affordable price makes it a good value for a sports car, even if comfort and efficiency are not its strongest suits.

The Bad

The 2016 Nissan 370Z has some notable weaknesses. The interior feels dated compared to rivals, with cheaper materials and a less refined design. The ride can be harsh on rough roads, and noise levels are high. Watch out for potential oil consumption issues, especially on higher-mileage examples. The clutch slave cylinder is also a known weak point.

What Problems Does the 2016 Nissan 370Z Have?

The 2016 Nissan 370Z is generally considered a reliable vehicle, but some frequently reported problems and long-term reliability concerns exist. Oil consumption can be an issue, especially in higher-mileage cars. Owners have reported needing to add oil between changes. The clutch slave cylinder is a known weak point that can fail, requiring replacement. The SynchroRev Match system, available on manual transmission models, can sometimes experience issues. Premature tire wear, especially on the rear, is also commonly reported due to the car's sporty nature and rear-wheel-drive configuration. There have been some recalls related to fuel tank issues and potential electrical problems in previous model years (specifically 2009-2013), but the 2016 model seems less affected, though it's wise to check the VIN for outstanding recalls. Long-term, potential issues include the degradation of suspension components, leading to a harsher ride, and the eventual need to replace bushings and ball joints. The automatic transmission is generally reliable, but proper maintenance, including fluid changes, is crucial to avoid problems.

How long will the 2016 Nissan 370Z last?

With proper maintenance, the 2016 Nissan 370Z can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Years of service can extend beyond 10-15 years with conscientious ownership. Long-term durability is generally good, but potential weaknesses include gradual oil consumption, clutch slave cylinder failure (especially on manual models), and wear of suspension components. Regular oil changes, fluid flushes, and proactive maintenance are critical to maximizing its lifespan. Cars driven hard or tracked frequently may experience accelerated wear on brakes, tires, and the drivetrain.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2016 Nissan 370Z features a basic set of built-in tech and safety features. Standard features include keyless entry, push-button start, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trims, like the Touring and Sport Tech, add a navigation system with a touchscreen display and a Bose audio system. Driver-assistance features are limited compared to modern cars; there's no adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, or blind-spot monitoring available. Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and front and side airbags. Optional features mostly revolve around trim levels, such as the upgraded audio system, navigation, and leather upholstery.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were not comprehensive for the 2016 370Z. It received mostly good ratings in the tests that were conducted, but it's important to note the lack of modern driver-assistance technologies might make it less safe than newer vehicles in certain situations. The focus is more on the driving experience rather than advanced safety features.

2016 Nissan 370Z Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2016 Nissan 370Z ranged from around $30,000 for the base model to $47,000 for the Nismo. Current used market prices typically range from $18,000 to $35,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim. Depreciation has been moderate, as sports cars tend to hold their value reasonably well, especially models like the 370Z with a strong enthusiast following. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, accident history, and whether it's a desirable trim level like the Sport or Nismo. Manual transmission models often command a slight premium over automatics.

2016 Nissan 370Z Cost of Ownership

The 2016 Nissan 370Z is moderately costly to own. Insurance can be higher due to its sports car classification. Fuel costs are average for a V6, but premium fuel is recommended. Maintenance is generally straightforward, but repairs can be expensive, especially for the clutch or SynchroRev Match system. Long-term ownership costs depend on driving habits and maintenance, but expect to spend more than on a typical sedan due to higher wear and tear and potential for specialized repairs.

2016 Nissan 370Z Insurance

Insurance for a 2016 Nissan 370Z is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2016 Nissan 370Z Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2016 Nissan 370Z competes with cars like the Ford Mustang GT, Chevrolet Camaro, Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86, and Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Mustang and Camaro offer more powerful V8 engines for similar or slightly higher prices but can feel larger and less nimble. The BRZ/86 twins provide sharper handling but lack the 370Z's power. The Miata is a smaller, more focused roadster, prioritizing handling over outright speed.

In terms of reliability, the 370Z is generally comparable to the Mustang and Camaro. The BRZ/86 twins have a reputation for being very reliable. Feature-wise, the 370Z lags behind newer Mustangs and Camaros, which offer more modern tech and driver-assistance systems. For a raw, engaging driving experience with a potent V6, the 370Z is a good choice. However, if you prioritize modern features or V8 power, the Mustang or Camaro might be better. The BRZ/86 is a good alternative if you prefer a lighter, more balanced feel, while the Miata excels as a pure roadster experience. All offer compelling experiences at various price points.

Final Verdict: Is the 2016 Nissan 370Z a Good Sedan?

The 2016 Nissan 370Z is ideal for driving enthusiasts seeking a classic, rear-wheel-drive sports car experience without breaking the bank. It's worth buying used if you prioritize performance and a raw, connected feel over modern tech and a refined interior. A used Sport or Sport Tech trim offers the best balance of performance features and value. It's less suitable for those prioritizing comfort, fuel efficiency, or advanced safety features. Consider a pre-purchase inspection to check for common issues like oil consumption and clutch wear.

Most Sporty Car I've ever owned!!

The bucket seats fit you like a glove with the low to the ground feel. Awesome car would recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably affordable sports car!

Most favorite car I had.

The car met all my needs. It was one tough car. I would get it again, but later on not now. It's a small car , but not for me.

This is the third Z I have owned, great cars.

If you are looking for a naturally aspirated sports coupe with a manual transmission you need to look no further. Nissan Z Is a vehicle do be drove up the coast or in mountains so do. It hesitate to purchase a 370z.

Just looks aweasome!

It's a sports car: so I wouldn't buy this as daily commute/family car. However, it is perfect when you get a little me time! I just wished the speedometer wasn't so tiny and it also displayed in digital. Thus far that is my only grip.

Fun to drive

Fun to drive. The car could use more USB ports. The navigation was helpful. Not the most comfortable seats/ interior. It is an affordable "sports car."

Feels like a big car

I've had the car well over a year now as I bought it as a CPO with 4K on it. It puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel. Here in Miami having instant torque is a big plus as is the ability to pass the wanna be drivers. There is no sports car with this much bang for the buck. I'm glad I bought it.

Awesome!!

I used to own a 350Z. Loved it. But my height was a concern. 6'4". So all of the things that I thought that they can improve in that car they did in the 370. Well, most of them. First of all more room inside. Which is what I was hoping for. Secondly, no convertible (like my 350z) so more room in the back. Thirdly, performance. Horsepower, acceleration ,torque all that good stuff. Very happy with the acceleration. I have been testing ,switching from automatic to the manual shift, and I must say that it's pretty smooth. I know automatic is known for being a little faster zero to 60, but if mastered right, that manual acceleration is pretty close. I bought it used with 20000 miles on it, one owner. Guess the old guy couldn't handle it.lol. all I can say is I love this car. It's beautiful with great performance and putting a few K & N filters in it helped the acceleration and hopefully fuel economy. We shall see.

Extremely fun to drive!

This is a true sports car.. a 2-seater sports coupe with Recaro seats, excellent handling and great acceleration! There are faster cars with eight cylinder engines out there, but none are more fun to drive!
