The 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor is a mid-size crossover SUV introduced in 2003. It features a unibody construction offering car-like handling. Model years range from 2004-2011. Key trims include LS, SE, and Limited. Pricing ranged from around $25,000-$32,000 when new. Its unique styling and focus on a comfortable ride, coupled with a powerful V6 engine, made it a popular choice for families seeking a practical and stylish SUV. The Endeavor stood out for its sporty handling.
The Good

The 2006 Endeavor offers a smooth, powerful V6 engine (performance) appealing to those seeking responsiveness. It boasts a comfortable ride (comfort) and a distinctive design (design). While not the most fuel-efficient (efficiency), its solid build (reliability) and lower used prices (value) make it appealing to budget-conscious, practical buyers, while its styling and performance resonate emotionally.

The Bad

Known weaknesses of the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor include potential issues with the automatic transmission, particularly harsh shifting. Rust can be a problem in regions with road salt. Fuel economy is not its strongest suit. Watch out for electrical problems and ensure regular maintenance has been performed to mitigate these potential issues. The interior materials can feel cheap.

What Problems Does the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor include issues with the automatic transmission, such as rough shifting or slipping. Some owners have reported premature transmission failure. Rust, especially in areas where salt is used on roads, is another common concern, particularly affecting the undercarriage and body panels. Electrical problems, such as issues with the power windows, door locks, and audio system, have also been reported. There have been some recalls for the 2006 Endeavor, including recalls related to airbags and potential fuel leakage. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to these issues, and preventative maintenance, such as regular transmission fluid changes and rustproofing, is recommended. The 2004-2006 model years seem to have more frequent transmission complaints compared to later years, though all years can experience these issues. Check engine lights related to emissions or sensor failures are also not uncommon. Overall, while the Endeavor can be a reliable vehicle, potential buyers should be aware of these known issues and have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic.

How long will the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor last?

With proper maintenance, a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor can realistically reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report vehicles lasting 15-20 years with consistent care. Key to longevity is diligent maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission fluid services, and addressing rust promptly. Weaknesses over time include potential for rust, transmission wear, and electrical component failures. Neglecting maintenance significantly shortens its lifespan. Vehicles with detailed service records tend to last longer. The 3.8L V6 engine is generally durable if properly maintained.

I have a 2006 that a gentleman at church just gave me. He just spent $7500 on it and was going to give it to his granddaughter, but she didn't want it. I has 287564 miles. The car is like brand new. I just love it. I will let you know when it reaches 300,000 miles.

I love this car. It always runs great and very reliable. Never give me any trouble. It is the best car I ever had. I have it for 10 years. very good car.

I wrote a review two years ago and said the only maintenance I had done was brakes and tires. That was at 215K miles. I'm up to 280K miles now and have had a few other issues. I put three wheel bearings in, and had the transmission flushed twice when it started to shudder; once in the fall and then again in the spring. The shudder is gone. Still runs great, but it's starting to use some oil. One of the back windows no longer opens, but the A/C and heat still work great. All in all, this has been one of the most dependable, reliable vehicles I've ever had, and I've had a bunch. AWD works great. I live in NW WI, so I use it at least six months out of the year. Can pull my boat - 17' aluminum with a 70 horse outboard - easily.

This vehicle is a nightmare I would never recommend any one to purchase a 2006-2010 Mitsubishi Endeavors. The previous owners got the HVAC recall done on 2011. I had this vehicle for 2 years just so the problem to happen again. And since the previous owners didn't complain about the part not being fixed right. They want me to pay for a recall repair that's been repaired by Mitsubishi again costing me $1600 to do. So I have no visual because the frost on my windows won't defrost because the heat keeps switching ,on it's own to air conditioning. Shame on you Mitsubishi. I will never buy any of your vehicles again. I will stick to American made cars and trucks. If any one see this comment you have been warned not to ever purchase any vehicle from Mitsubishi they can care less about their customers. Whether the vehicle is new or used that HVAC reall unit should always get repaired free if this problem keeps happening. Shame on you Mitsubishi.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor offered a reasonable amount of tech for its time. Standard features included an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims, like the SE and Limited, added features like automatic climate control, upgraded audio systems (Infinity), and keyless entry. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) available in 2006. Safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control, front airbags, and side airbags. Optional features included a sunroof, leather upholstery, and heated front seats.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) varied. Generally, the Endeavor received decent scores, but not top marks in all categories. It's important to consult official crash-test reports for detailed information. The Limited trim also had a premium Infinity audio system. Overall, the tech and safety features were typical for a mid-2000s SUV, lacking modern conveniences like navigation or advanced safety aids. The focus was more on comfort and basic safety rather than cutting-edge technology. However, compared to similar vehicles of that time, the features were competitive.

2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor ranged from approximately $25,000 to $32,000, depending on the trim level and options. Currently, used market prices typically range from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Endeavor has depreciated significantly due to its age, reliability concerns, and the Mitsubishi brand's overall depreciation rate. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (rust-free examples command higher prices), service history, and trim level. Low-mileage, well-maintained Limited models fetch the highest prices, while high-mileage or neglected examples sell for considerably less. Expect significant depreciation.

2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor Cost of Ownership

The 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor's long-term ownership costs are moderate. Insurance costs are typically average for a mid-size SUV. Fuel economy is below average, leading to higher fuel expenses. Maintenance costs can be average, but repairs can be costly, especially regarding the transmission. Rust repair can also be a significant expense. Overall, it's not the most economical vehicle to own due to its fuel consumption and potential for costly repairs. Budgeting for potential maintenance issues is essential.

2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor Insurance

Insurance for a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor competed with vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Murano, and Chevrolet Equinox. In terms of performance, the Endeavor's V6 was competitive, but fuel economy lagged behind the Highlander and Pilot. Feature-wise, it offered similar amenities to its rivals, but the interior quality was generally considered less refined. Reliability is where the Endeavor falls short compared to the Toyota and Honda options, which are known for their long-term dependability. The Nissan Murano offered a more stylish design but suffered from similar reliability concerns. The Chevy Equinox was generally less expensive but also less refined.

For a more reliable and fuel-efficient option, the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot would be better choices, albeit potentially at a higher price point on the used market. If style is a priority and budget is a concern, the Nissan Murano might be a similar alternative, but be prepared for potential reliability issues. The Chevrolet Equinox is a cheaper alternative that is similar to the Endeavor. Overall, the Endeavor offers a decent value if purchased at a low price, but buyers should prioritize a thorough inspection and be prepared for potential repairs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor a Good Wagon?

The 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a mid-size SUV with decent performance and a distinctive style. It's worth buying *if* purchased at a low price and with a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Prioritize examples with documented maintenance history and minimal rust. The Limited trim offers the most features, but any trim in good condition is acceptable. Avoid examples with obvious transmission problems or excessive rust. It's not recommended for those prioritizing long-term reliability or fuel efficiency. If you're willing to accept potential maintenance costs for a lower purchase price, the Endeavor can be a reasonable choice, especially for short commutes or as a secondary vehicle. Consider it a budget-friendly alternative to more reliable, but more expensive, competitors.

No major repairs, mechanically reliable.

Perfect size for my needs, comfortable ride, and adequate cargo space, especially with the second row seat backs folded. Only issue now is the plastic handles on my tailgate/back window became brittle due to prolonged sun exposure and have broken to the point I cannot open them. Driver door handle also cracking.

I love it

I recently bought this car used and feel like the heavens dropped it from the sky for me. It's such a dream. Great looks , handles extremely well. I was scared buying a car with 180,000 miles on it, but after driving it for a bit and reading everyone's reviews , I feel like I really hit the jackpot. The previous owner took excellent car of the interior and the exterior still looks great. Clean Carfax. I love this care more than my brand new Prius' I've leased and more than the 2015 Jeep Wrangler. It gets way better gas mileage than the Jeep. Thank you and please make this car again so I can get another one, when the time comes.

It is comfortable to ride in for the size, has power to move when needed, gets above average gas mileage for a Mid-size SUV, is reliable, solid and handles well in all road conditions. Purchased used.

Trouble Free for over 100,000 miles

I bought this vehicle because I need AWD, a large 6 cylinder engine to pull my boat and camper, and for comfort. I'm 6'5" tall, and need a decent sized car. The only things I've had to do on this car are oil changes, transmission flush, brakes, tires, and a couple of bearings. I have over 260,000 miles on the car now and it runs like a top. Drove it recently from Wisconsin to Oregon and back with nary a glitch. Runs up the mountains with ease. May be the best car I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch of cars.
