- Electrical Problems: Wiring issues, faulty sensors, and problems with the instrument cluster are frequently reported.
- Transmission Issues: Older transmissions can experience slipping or rough shifting, particularly with higher mileage.
- Suspension Problems: Worn ball joints, tie rod ends, and shocks can lead to poor handling and ride quality.

Long-term reliability is heavily dependent on maintenance. Neglecting regular servicing can lead to accelerated wear and tear and increased repair costs. The 2003 model year doesn't have any significantly unique issues compared to other years in the same generation; most problems are age-related.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features were also limited. Standard features included:
- Front airbags
- Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were often optional
- Seatbelts
Optional features might have included things like:
- Security system
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) for the 2003 Dodge Ram Van are scarce, and data may be limited or unavailable due to the age of the vehicle and the testing standards at the time. It's important to remember that safety technology has advanced significantly since 2003, and this van lacks the advanced safety features found in newer vehicles (e.g., electronic stability control, lane departure warning, etc.). The focus was on basic safety rather than advanced driver assistance or sophisticated crash protection. The absence of extensive safety features is a significant consideration for potential buyers, especially those prioritizing safety.

How Does the 2003 Dodge Ram Van Compare to Other Truck?
Alternatives to consider include:
- Ford E-Series: A very comparable van offering similar capabilities and reliability. Parts availability is generally good.
- Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana: Another solid option with a wide range of configurations. Offers similar levels of reliability and performance.
For those prioritizing reliability and modern features, a newer, albeit more expensive, van is recommended. However, if budget is the primary concern and a basic, dependable work van is needed, the 2003 Dodge Ram Van remains a viable option, provided it's been well-maintained and rust is minimal. Newer minivans offer better fuel economy and comfort, but lack the raw cargo capacity. Ultimately, the choice depends on individual needs and priorities.

Great van..HORRIBLE FACTORY PAINT!!I think it's a great vehicle, the engine is a little underpowered for the vehicle it is a beef sticks and the only major complaint I have is that the paint peels off and was a Factory defect which they never recalled yet many people online had theirs painted or partially painted for free others they just dismissed and are very quiet about the fact that it is a factory plunder and it is a poor paint job and even worse products used that is why it peels off on many of the years of the Dodge vehicles especially the vans and they do nothing about it so my next purchase unfortunately would not be a VIN made by Dodge since they don't stand behind their products and especially when it is faulty as was proven, like the shoddy paint job and it peeling off year after year with no reason and no other Factory car paint jobs do this only Dodge

It's legitThe van might not be the most stylish van in the world but it is a 2003. It has never let me down. I always can rely on it to run for me and always get me home. The gas mileage is good for being a V8 and the fact it is a van. Too bad Dodge discontinued the van, I think it would have been a great addition to the Dodge line.
