The Good
The 2000 Dodge Ram Van offered practical advantages like ample cargo space and straightforward mechanics, appealing to budget-conscious buyers. Its sturdy construction promised reliability, fostering a sense of security. While not luxurious, it provided functional comfort for work or travel, making it a dependable and versatile choice.
The Bad
The 2000 Dodge Ram Van's weaknesses included relatively poor fuel economy compared to modern vehicles. Rust could be a significant issue, particularly in areas with road salt. Suspension components and transmissions were also prone to wear and tear, requiring careful inspection and maintenance.
2000 Dodge Ram Van: Quick Overview
- Engine Options: Several engines were available for the 2000 Dodge Ram Van: a 3.9L V6, a 5.2L V8, and a 5.9L V8.
- Horsepower: Horsepower varied by engine. The 3.9L V6 produced around 175 hp, the 5.2L V8 around 230 hp, and the 5.9L V8 around 245 hp.
- Fuel Economy: Fuel economy was not a strong point. Expect approximately 13-15 mpg city and 17-20 mpg highway depending on the engine and driving conditions.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2000 Dodge Ram Van Have?
Recalls for the 2000 model year, if any, would be documented by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and should be checked. Long-term reliability concerns revolved around the durability of the automatic transmission, the potential for rust, and the wear of suspension components. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, could mitigate some of these issues. Electrical problems, though less frequent, could also occur, affecting lighting and accessories. Owners should pay close attention to the condition of the cooling system to prevent overheating, which could lead to more severe engine damage.
How long will the 2000 Dodge Ram Van last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features were similarly rudimentary. Standard equipment included front airbags and seatbelts. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were often optional. Crash test ratings from the NHTSA or IIHS should be consulted for specific scores, but vans of this era generally didn't perform as well as modern vehicles in crash tests. Optional features could include things like power windows and locks, rear air conditioning and heat, and cruise control.
Entertainment was limited to the radio and potentially a cassette or CD player. There were no built-in navigation systems or infotainment screens. Overall, the 2000 Dodge Ram Van prioritized functionality and cargo capacity over advanced technology and safety features. Buyers should not expect the same level of safety or convenience as they would find in a newer vehicle.

How Does the 2000 Dodge Ram Van Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Van?
Alternatives to the 2000 Dodge Ram Van include the Ford Econoline/Club Wagon and the Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana. All are solid, reliable workhorses when properly maintained. Newer models of these vans (2003+) generally offer improved safety features and fuel economy, though at a higher price point. Consider a later model year of the Express/Savana or Econoline if safety and fuel efficiency are priorities. A well-maintained example of any of these vans can be a reliable and affordable choice, but meticulous inspection is crucial before purchase.

Great vehicle for the family. It was great for family trips and affordable. It had plenty of headroom in the back so that I at 5' 10" could almost fully stand. We took it on several trips and had a blast. Home away from home!!

1990 Subaru legacyThis Ram Van I own has given me nothing but headaches. New transmission, new front end, 2 sets of tires, front end constantly going out of line, poor gas mileage, i.e. your typical amerivan auto product.
