Rating: 4.02
Based on 12 Owner Reviews
Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is a mid-size pickup truck, introduced in 2019 as a revival of Jeep's pickup heritage. Its body style is a four-door crew cab with a five-foot bed. Key trims include Sport, Willys Sport, Overland, Rubicon, and Mojave. The pricing range typically spans from the low $30,000s to over $50,000 depending on configuration. It stands out due to its open-air capabilities (removable top and doors), off-road prowess, and unique design blending Jeep Wrangler styling with truck functionality. It's popular for its versatility and rugged image.
The Good

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator offers strong off-road performance and distinctive Jeep styling appealing to emotional buyers. Practical advantages include its towing capacity and open-air design. Reliability can be a concern, while fuel efficiency is not a strong point. Comfort varies by trim, but it's generally capable. It provides a unique value proposition for those seeking adventure and utility.

The Bad

Known weaknesses of the 2022 Jeep Gladiator include its subpar fuel economy compared to other mid-size trucks. The ride quality can be stiff, especially on rough roads. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and build quality. Wind noise is also a common complaint due to its boxy shape and removable top. Be aware of potential electronic glitches and drivetrain vibrations.

What Problems Does the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2022 Jeep Gladiator, and earlier model years, often revolve around electronic glitches, wind noise, and some drivetrain vibrations. Specific issues include infotainment system malfunctions (Uconnect), sensor problems, and occasional issues with the automatic transmission shifting. Premature wear of certain suspension components and steering issues have also been reported.

Recalls have occurred for various reasons across the Gladiator's production run, including issues with the driveshaft, fuel lines, and rearview camera. Checking the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information is crucial before purchasing any used Gladiator.

Long-term reliability concerns center on the complexity of the vehicle and its numerous electronic systems. Jeeps, in general, haven't historically topped reliability charts, and the Gladiator shares some of those potential weaknesses. Oil cooler leaks on the 3.6L V6 have also been noted. Ensuring regular maintenance and addressing any issues promptly is essential to mitigate potential long-term problems. Some owners have reported "death wobble" at higher speeds, which is a severe steering issue, although this seems to be more prevalent in lifted or modified Gladiators.

How long will the 2022 Jeep Gladiator last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2022 Jeep Gladiator can potentially provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. However, this depends heavily on owner care and usage. Consistent oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor issues proactively are vital. Long-term durability concerns often stem from rust (especially in colder climates), electronic component failures, and potential issues with the drivetrain as mileage accumulates. The soft top, if equipped, may require replacement after several years due to wear and tear. Regular off-roading can accelerate wear on suspension and drivetrain components.

This is a.rock solid vehicle that defines “utility” better than all the rest. You have tons of ways to configure the vehicle every day. Open air roof, doors off, entire top off, pick-up truck uses, off roading, climbing, travel, snowshoeing, skiing, snow driving, trails and dirt roads, hiking, carry bed loads, trailering, ATVs, etc, etc, etc. No way to ever find it boring. Plus, the extra bonus of the culture, friendliness, the wave, jeep groups, and the way it promotes and nurtures getting outdoors and getting active. No issues. Alpine stereo is great. Nav is great. Heat is great. comfort great, carrying fun loads great, towing to 4K lbs great. No complaints.

Don't buy this vehicle in freezing climates. The windshield and wiper blades freeze while driving in freezing snowing conditions. The door latch mechanisms also freeze, doors are hard to stay latched. My windshield broke with a loud pop in a Wendy's parking lot. Seems the hot and cold from the icing at the bottom and the hot heat off the defroster breaks these gorilla glass windshields. Mopars refuses to.do anything under warranty even though it's an issue. The good? Great 4 wheel drive, transfer case shifter very hard to pull. The ecodiesel I got gets up to 30 mpg on highway. About 17 in town when not sitting at idle to warm up. 1st regen was at about 1500 miles.

I think my 2022 Gladiator is one of the top vehicles I have owned The only drawback is the lack of warranty service from my local Jeep dealer.

I bought it with 800 miles on it, I think it was a lemon law car. The dealer had it most of the first month. The check engine light kept coming on ! They were working with engineers from Chrysler as to why it was happening! First Oxygen sensor then fuel injectors then something else! For a month then they finally figured out it needed a new computer!! I just got the congratulations on 1 year anniversary of owning it in an E-mail from the dealer and a light came on the Gismo that starts and stops the engine at redlights or stop signs!! I called but they could get me in for 10 days so I made the appointment Told me it was a 3 hour appointment it was one of the batteries! I told them I only had one. "Oh no you have a Large one under the one you see!" The service rep tells me. It was under warranty but endend up being the small one! I tried trading that day Cost me close to $50,000 a year before they offered $30,000 I went to another dealer and traded it! Lost my A_ s! but got a Chevy I can count on!

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator boasts a range of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. The Uconnect infotainment system is available with screen sizes ranging from 5 inches to 8.4 inches, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Higher trims feature navigation and premium audio systems.

Standard driver-assistance features are relatively limited, but available options include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and park assist. A rearview camera is standard on all models.

Safety features include advanced multistage front airbags, supplemental side-curtain airbags, electronic stability control, and traction control.

Optional features expand the technology offerings, with features like a forward-facing off-road camera (especially useful in Rubicon and Mojave trims), and integrated trailering technology. The Gladiator also has removable doors and roof which offer open-air driving but also potentially compromise safety in certain accident scenarios.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA should be consulted for a comprehensive safety assessment. The Gladiator's performance in these tests has been mixed, with some concerns noted regarding side-impact protection.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator had a starting MSRP in the low $30,000s, with higher trims reaching over $50,000 when new. Current used market prices vary widely based on condition, mileage, and trim, but generally range from the mid $30,000s to the high $40,000s. Gladiators hold their value relatively well, due to their popularity and Jeep's strong brand recognition. Factors affecting resale value include trim level (Rubicon and Mojave command higher prices), condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has been modified. Low mileage and a clean Carfax report significantly boost resale value.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums can be higher than other mid-size trucks due to its off-road capabilities and potential for damage. Fuel economy is subpar, leading to significant fuel costs. Maintenance, while not exceptionally expensive, includes regular servicing of four-wheel-drive components. Repair costs can be high, especially for specialized parts or if involved in off-road incidents. Long-term, expect higher-than-average expenses due to fuel, insurance, and potential repairs.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Jeep Gladiator is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Pickup Truck with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Compare to Other Pickup Truck?

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator competes with mid-size trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, and Ford Ranger. In terms of off-road performance, the Gladiator Rubicon excels, rivaling only the Tacoma TRD Pro. However, the Tacoma generally boasts better reliability. The Colorado offers a diesel engine and strong towing capabilities, while the Ranger provides a more refined driving experience. Feature-wise, the Gladiator offers unique open-air driving but lacks some of the advanced tech found in competitors.

The Gladiator's price is generally higher than its rivals, especially when comparing similarly equipped models. In terms of reliability, the Tacoma often outperforms the Gladiator.

Alternatives to the Gladiator include:
  • Toyota Tacoma: For superior reliability and resale value.
  • Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon: For a wider range of engine options and potentially lower price.
  • Ford Ranger: For a more comfortable on-road driving experience and modern technology.
  • Honda Ridgeline: For a more car-like ride and integrated bed features, though less off-road capability.

If off-road capability and the Jeep brand image are paramount, the Gladiator is a strong choice. Otherwise, considering the Tacoma or Ranger for better reliability or on-road comfort may be advisable.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Jeep Gladiator a Good Pickup Truck?

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is ideal for buyers seeking a unique mid-size truck with exceptional off-road capabilities and the iconic Jeep styling. It's worth buying if you prioritize open-air driving, ruggedness, and don't mind sacrificing some fuel economy and on-road refinement. A used Gladiator can be a good value if it's well-maintained and has a clean history. The Rubicon trim is recommended for serious off-road enthusiasts. Consider a new model if you value the latest technology and want to avoid potential early production issues found in earlier model years. Thoroughly inspect any used Gladiator for signs of off-road abuse.

Don't buy it

Since we have had our gladiator we have not found it to live up to what we were told. First issue was a problem with the fuel tank vent causing fuel to spill out and poor gas mileage TOOK 6 months to get the problem resolved! Unacceptable! Second issue is the rear and front windshields. Our rear windshield busted out and we have no Idea how. Talking with the repair people it's very common both are very weak because there is no frame so it breaks very easy. Third this underpowered turd cannot tow with any kind of tolerable gas mileage. Cost us a fortune to tow our small 22' RV trailer.

Gladiator will be the next Jeep superstar.

I am a old school jeep owner, what they have come up with in the Gladiator is a hit. The ride along with rugged styling and performance and a usable pickup bed is fantastic.

2020 and 2022 Mojave

Specifically the Mojave is the most completely usable small truck in all aspects. It's a Jeep truck that handles better than any other Jeep ever produced. My 2020 took a broadside direct hit from a Toyota Tundra and took it like a champ. I barely felt it and the passenger side didn't cave in like you would expect. It goes anywhere and protects the occupants from injury. That's why I purchased a 2022 when it was deemed a total loss.
