The 2009 Chrysler Aspen is a full-size SUV that blends truck-like capability with a touch of Chrysler luxury. Produced from 2007 to 2009, it aimed to offer a more refined alternative in the SUV market. Key trims included the Limited and base models. When new, prices ranged from approximately $32,000 to $38,000. It stood out for its spacious interior, towing capacity, and available Hemi engine.

Its comfortable interior and available luxury features provide a pleasant ride. Practically, it boasts impressive towing capacity and spaciousness, making it a valuable choice for families and those needing to haul heavy loads. The bold design offers visual appeal.

What Problems Does the 2009 Chrysler Aspen Have?

The 2009 Chrysler Aspen, and earlier model years, had several frequently reported problems. Electrical issues are common, including problems with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), which can cause various electrical malfunctions. Transmission issues, such as rough shifting or complete failure, have also been reported. Rust is a significant concern, especially in areas with harsh winters, affecting body panels and undercarriage components.

Recalls for the Aspen included issues with the airbag system and potential problems with the cruise control system that could lead to unintended acceleration. Long-term reliability is a concern due to the electrical gremlins, rust, and potential transmission problems. The 2007 and 2008 model years had similar issues. It's critical to obtain a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential problems before buying a used Aspen, and to check the vehicle's recall history.

How long will the 2009 Chrysler Aspen last?

With proper maintenance, a 2009 Chrysler Aspen can potentially reach 200,000 miles or more. However, its longevity heavily depends on maintenance habits. Neglecting scheduled maintenance, especially regarding the transmission and cooling system, can significantly shorten its lifespan. The Aspen's primary long-term durability weaknesses stem from potential rust issues, electrical problems, and transmission wear. Owners who proactively address these issues and follow a strict maintenance schedule can expect a longer service life. Many are approaching end of life now, depending on prior care.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2009 Chrysler Aspen offered a reasonable array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features included air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a basic audio system with a CD player. Higher trims, like the Limited, added more upscale amenities.

Entertainment: An optional rear-seat DVD entertainment system was available, along with an upgraded premium audio system.

Driver-Assistance: Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. It included features like antilock brakes (ABS) and stability control.

Safety Features: Standard safety features included front airbags, side curtain airbags, and anti-lock brakes. Some models featured rear parking sensors.

Crash-Test Ratings: The 2009 Chrysler Aspen's crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied. It generally received good scores in frontal crash tests but lower scores in side-impact tests. Potential buyers should consult these ratings for a more comprehensive understanding of its safety performance. Note that safety technology has drastically improved since 2009.

2009 Chrysler Aspen Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2009 Chrysler Aspen ranged from approximately $32,000 to $38,000, depending on the trim level and options. As of today, used market prices are significantly lower, typically ranging from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Aspen experienced substantial depreciation due to its reliability issues, fuel economy, and the relatively short production run. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and overall demand for SUVs in the used market. Models with the Hemi engine and in excellent condition may command slightly higher prices.

2009 Chrysler Aspen Cost of Ownership

The 2009 Chrysler Aspen is generally considered costly to own. Insurance rates are moderate, but fuel costs are high due to its poor fuel economy. Maintenance and repair costs can be significant due to potential reliability issues, including electrical problems and transmission repairs. Parts availability may also be a concern as the vehicle is no longer in production. Long-term ownership costs can quickly add up, making it a less economical choice compared to more fuel-efficient and reliable SUVs.

2009 Chrysler Aspen Insurance

Insurance for a 2009 Chrysler Aspen is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2009 Chrysler Aspen Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2009 Chrysler Aspen competed against SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Nissan Armada. In terms of performance, the Aspen, especially with the Hemi, was competitive, but its fuel economy lagged behind rivals. Feature-wise, it offered a similar level of equipment, but its reliability was a significant weakness compared to the Tahoe and Expedition. Price-wise, used Aspens are often cheaper than comparable Tahoes or Expeditions due to depreciation.

Better alternatives might include the Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon, known for their better reliability and wider availability of parts. The Ford Expedition also offers comparable towing capacity and interior space with potentially better long-term dependability. The Nissan Armada could be a similar alternative, but review reliability reports. Ultimately, while the Aspen offers a lower entry price on the used market, the potential for higher repair costs makes these alternatives worthy of consideration. Newer SUVs offer much better fuel economy and safety.

Ranks #1865 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Chrysler Aspen a Good Vehicle?

The 2009 Chrysler Aspen is ideal for buyers seeking a large, affordable SUV with strong towing capacity on the used market. However, it's only worth buying if it's meticulously maintained and priced accordingly, reflecting its potential reliability concerns. A pre-purchase inspection is absolutely essential. Opting for the Hemi engine provides enhanced performance, but expect poor fuel economy. Given the age of the vehicle, avoid if you need guaranteed reliability or low running costs. Newer SUVs offer better value in most cases.

2009 Aspen runs like new

While I've had some engine (5.7) work done under the lifetime powertrain warranty (original owner only), this 273,000 mile vehicle runs and looks like new. Original paint and all the buttons and dials still work. We tow a 6000

A truly treasured family SUV

Bought my 2008 5.7L HEMI Aspen new and still have it. She’s aged like a fine wine and since I have a lifetime powertrain warranty on it, I see absolutely no reason to give it up! In fact, I recently invested in ceramic coat on the beautiful Cool Vanilla factory paint after all these years. I LOVE the exterior styling even now. Chrysler made a MASSIVE mistake by not marketing this model better and by omitting it from further production after just 3 years. SAD!!!!!

2009 Aspen

I always liked the Aspen's styling, I purchased an '09 recently and am very pleased with the whole package. The current average fuel mileage is 17.8 mpg from the 4.7 liter v-8. I have a family of 6, the tumble seats are quick and easy for access. The ride was a bit splashy but I took care of that with Bilstein shocks. The body on frame design provides a rigid towing platform. IFS /torsion bar front and coil over link rear suspension gives a firm, comfortable and quiet ride. The turning radius is very good, I have nothing but good things to report about this stylish truck!
