Rating: 3.55
Based on 100 Owner Reviews β–Ά
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2007 Dodge Caliber marked Dodge's entry into the compact hatchback market. Its distinctive, somewhat aggressive styling and available bright colors helped it stand out. Sold from 2007 to 2012, the Caliber came in trims like SE, SXT, and R/T. The original pricing ranged from around $14,000 to $20,000, but used prices are significantly lower today. Its hatchback practicality and bold looks appealed to budget-conscious buyers.
The Good

The 2007 Dodge Caliber's advantages include its distinctive styling, which appealed to those seeking a unique look. It offered hatchback versatility for practical needs. While not a performance car, some engines provided adequate power. Its affordability made it an attractive option for budget-minded buyers looking for newish transportation.

The Bad

The 2007 Dodge Caliber's weaknesses include below-average fuel economy for its class, especially with the CVT transmission. Reliability has been a common concern, with reports of transmission issues and electrical problems. The interior materials also felt cheap and hard, detracting from the overall experience. Consider maintenance records carefully.

What Problems Does the 2007 Dodge Caliber Have?

The 2007 Dodge Caliber has several frequently reported problems, impacting long-term reliability. A significant concern is the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which is prone to failures, often requiring expensive repairs or replacement. Owners have reported slipping, jerking, and complete transmission failure, particularly with higher mileage. Electrical issues are also common, including problems with the power windows, door locks, and the car's computer system.

Another frequently reported issue is premature brake wear. The front brakes, in particular, tend to wear out quickly, requiring more frequent replacements than average. Some owners have also experienced issues with the car's air conditioning system, with failures of the compressor or other components. There have been recalls related to the Caliber, typically addressing safety concerns such as potential issues with the airbag system or fuel system components. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for outstanding recall notices before purchasing. Over the long term, rust can also be a concern, especially in areas with harsh winter climates. Check for rust around the wheel wells, undercarriage, and door panels. Early model years (2007-2009) seemed to experience these problems more frequently than later years.

How long will the 2007 Dodge Caliber last?

With proper maintenance, a 2007 Dodge Caliber can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles. However, achieving this milestone largely depends on consistent maintenance, especially regarding the CVT transmission. Neglecting transmission fluid changes can significantly shorten its lifespan. Owners who address issues promptly and keep up with scheduled maintenance have a better chance of long-term durability. Weaknesses include the aforementioned CVT issues, electrical problems, and potential for rust. Engine issues are less common than transmission problems, but regular oil changes are still essential.

I have a have a 2007 Dodge Caliber that I bought in 2017 with 35,000 miles on it. Now in 2019 it has 43,000 miles and is undrivable because of a rusted through back frame. Don't buy a Dodge !
yalikejazz
It's made of plastic and gets a whopping 17 miles per gallon. It doesn't drive smooth and the brakes aren't sensitive. The aux and volume are wonky and the car is overall unreliable.
BewareBeware
PLEASE DO BOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I purchased a vehicle from them and within a few hours of driving, the vehicle broke down!!! It kept cutting off and smoking!!!!! I purchased the vehicle at 1'o clock and literally at 6'o clock the vehicle was no longer running. I was stuck with my two little babies in the car scared to death!!! I gave this company all of my money and the lady that promise me that the car was in well running condition just lied!!!! Her name is Judy and she's a lieing snake!! I called and told her what was going on and she said that I purchased the vehicle Ò€œAs IsÒ€ But the vehicle was running at that time!!!!! And it should've remained how it was when I purchased! I didn't purchase a vehicle that was smoking and cutting off!!! They're ruthless and heartless and disgusting!!! They're selling lemons for very high price and won't even try to help fix the repairs! Buyers be aware!!! PLEASE DO BOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Dodge Caliber's tech and entertainment features were fairly basic for its time. Standard features usually included an AM/FM radio with a CD player and an auxiliary audio input. Higher trims offered upgraded sound systems with more speakers. Navigation was not a commonly available option. Driver-assistance features were limited, with no advanced systems like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring available. Safety features included standard front airbags, side curtain airbags, and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was available as an option on some trims.

Optional features included a sunroof, upgraded audio systems, and premium cloth upholstery. The "Chill Zone" beverage cooler in the glove box was a unique feature. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) varied depending on the specific test. Some tests resulted in 4-star ratings, while others were lower. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also conducted crash tests, with results varying depending on the test. It's advisable to check the specific crash-test ratings for the 2007 Caliber from both NHTSA and IIHS before making a purchase. Overall, the Caliber offered a basic level of tech and safety features, with few advanced options available.

2007 Dodge Caliber Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Dodge Caliber ranged from approximately $14,000 to $20,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Caliber has experienced significant depreciation due to reliability concerns and its age. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and trim level. Models with the 2.4L engine and AWD may command slightly higher prices. A clean title and documented maintenance can also improve resale value.

2007 Dodge Caliber Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2007 Dodge Caliber are typically relatively low due to its age and value. Fuel costs are moderate, but below average for the class especially with the CVT. Maintenance and repair costs can be unpredictable. While routine maintenance is affordable, potential CVT repairs can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs can be higher than average due to the potential for mechanical issues. It isn't as economical as some of its rivals.

2007 Dodge Caliber Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Dodge Caliber is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Hatchback with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Dodge Caliber Compare to Other Hatchback?

The 2007 Dodge Caliber competed against compact hatchbacks like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, and Ford Focus. In terms of performance, the Caliber lagged behind the Mazda3 and some Civic models, offering less engaging handling. Its features were comparable to the base models of its rivals, but it lacked the advanced options available on higher trims of competitors. Reliability was a significant weakness compared to the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, which are known for their dependability. In terms of price, the Caliber was often more affordable than some of its rivals when new, but the used market offers better options.

Better alternatives include the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla for their superior reliability and fuel economy. The Mazda3 offers a more engaging driving experience. The Ford Focus, particularly later models, also presents a more refined option. While the Caliber might be attractive due to its low price, the potential for costly repairs makes it a less compelling choice compared to these alternatives. Consider a well-maintained Civic or Corolla for long-term reliability and lower overall ownership costs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Dodge Caliber a Good Hatchback?

The 2007 Dodge Caliber is ideally suited for budget-conscious buyers seeking affordable transportation and are willing to accept potential reliability risks. It's worth buying *only* if you find a well-maintained example with a comprehensive service history and a pre-purchase inspection reveals no major issues. Avoid models with known CVT problems. The 2.4L engine with a manual transmission (if available) might be a slightly better option. Given the Caliber's age and potential issues, newer and more reliable alternatives often present a better long-term investment, even at a slightly higher price point. Buying new is not applicable as this car is long out of production.

Everyone always has something to say about the early

Everyone always has something to say about the early modle of the caliber the 07'. I have not a single issue with my Caliber Mechanically since I've owned it. With just absolutely basic preventive maintenance this car has been more reliable than anything I've owned previous from the private market. So long as you don't run it into the ground by not preforming proper and needed maintenance. This car is awesome. It has amazing options for aftermarket speakers by providing not one, not two, but four 6"x9" door speakers. Which I personally have installed some keenwood 5-way 650w peak speakers in. I had to make absolutely no modifications to the wiring, install an amp, or replace the factory head unit to get an amazing sound. The amazing part about it is the fold down seats. Though as a whole the car is compact with the added feature you are able to fit quite a lot in the hatch. I own the SE and have had absolutely no mechanical issues with it. Amazing car with amazing features so long as you care about your vehicles

Wonderful car to learn on!

I would only recommend this car if you are interested in learning about fixing cars or have little knowledge to open YouTube and watch a video to get it done for cheap it's the way to go! So easy to work on and most parts are interchangeable with different models, and the parts are so cheap!

Amazing for the price!

For a car with 300,000+ miles on it, it's amazing, affordable maintenance and quality features you would want from a newer car. I would highly recommend as a daily driver, first car, or even your next project car!

"It gets me from point a to b!"

I brought this car used and it has a lot of suspension problems. Control arms in the back are rusted and everytime i take it to a mechanic, they say DONT PUT ANY MONEY INTO IT! Then when i turn the ac on, water leaks from the right-side under the glovebox. Cold water. When i come upon a stop, the suv vibrates unless i put it in neutral 😐. There is no horn in the car. Other than that, i really like this car. Of course i purchased it used for 2500 so i will be putting money into it. I just dont know where to startΓ°ΕΈΒ€Β¨Γ°ΕΈΛœβ€™

A passenger's experience

My friend gave me a ride in his recently acquired Caliber. When I got inside, the door closed with such an awful sound I thought it was going to fall off. The entire interior except seats seemed to be made from hardest and cheapest plastic possible. The door panels were just big pieces of hard plastic, zero cloth, leather or rubber. Adding insult to injury was brutally square interior design - if the materials were a bit nicer, it would even be charismatic, but in Chinese toy plastic it looks just terrible. Also terrible were center-holed headrests, looking like they were pulled out of some early 80s not-so-expensive car and stuffed into the Dodge by some xxxxxxx home mechanic. However, the seats themselves were comfortable and nice-looking in their beige color. The car seemed to accelerate pretty quickly, with owner himself praising it as well, although he complained about so-so fuel economy. Suspension was fine on bumps and the car has unusually high ground clearance for its class. Exterior design was probably meant to be unique but ended up average. To conclude: Good: Dynamics, ride height, seats, interior easy to wash? Average: Exterior styling, comfort, MPG Bad: Interior styling Very bad: Interior quality, headrests, door closing sound Verdict - if you need a hatchback that's fast and not afraid of rough roads, and you don't need more comfort than a Soviet soldier does - go for it. If not - just don't.

Mystery problems made it on reliable

Mystery problems made it on reliable. Three different mechanics from three different places could not figure out how to fix an overheating issue. This car was very unreliable.
