The Good
The 2008 Hyundai Tiburon offered a blend of sporty design and practicality. Performance from the V6 engine was engaging. Its attractive styling appealed emotionally, while the affordable price and decent fuel economy (for a sporty coupe) catered to practical buyers. Overall, it provided good value for those wanting a stylish and fun car without breaking the bank.
The Bad
Known weaknesses of the 2008 Hyundai Tiburon include potential issues with the automatic transmission, particularly rough shifting. The interior materials can feel somewhat cheap and dated. Additionally, some owners have reported electrical problems and issues with the air conditioning system. Rust can also be a concern, especially in regions with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2008 Hyundai Tiburon Have?
While the 2008 model year didn't have any major recalls, it's worth checking the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any potential safety recalls that may have been issued after the vehicle's production. Long-term reliability concerns generally center around the durability of the aforementioned components. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes and addressing any issues promptly, can help mitigate some of these potential problems. Early model years (2003-2006) were known to have more issues with the crankshaft position sensor. However, this issue was largely resolved by 2008, though it can still occur. Paying attention to preventative maintenance and addressing any unusual noises or symptoms promptly can help ensure longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags and side-impact airbags. Optional features included a sunroof and, depending on the trim, cruise control. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring available on this model.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA vary. The NHTSA gave the 2008 Tiburon four stars for frontal crash protection for the driver and front passenger. The side impact rating was five stars for the front seat. The IIHS ratings varied depending on the test, generally achieving "Acceptable" ratings. These ratings should be considered in the context of their time period and are not directly comparable to modern vehicles with advanced safety technology.

How Does the 2008 Hyundai Tiburon Compare to Other Coupe?
In terms of reliability, the Tiburon is generally considered less reliable than the Honda and Toyota offerings. Its feature set was decent for the time, but it lacked the advanced technology found in newer vehicles. Pricing was a major advantage for the Tiburon when new, making it an accessible option.
Alternatives to consider include the Scion tC for similar sporty styling and practicality with potentially better reliability. The Mazda MX-5 Miata offers a far superior driving experience if practicality isn't a primary concern. For improved performance and reliability, a used Honda Civic Si or Acura RSX would be better choices, though potentially more expensive.

Best vehicle I have ever ownedEven though my Tiburon is ten years old; it's reliable, comfortable, still has the power when I ask it, and still gets looks and comments. I think of her as my sexy, stylish (slightly) older woman-er- car.

Great, sporty little 6 cylinderThis is a very reliable and sporty little car. Especially with the 6 cylinder engine. It's great for 2 people and a bunch of stuff in the back, but as you would expect the rear seats are small.

Love It!I've had my 2008 Tiburon 5-speed since January of 2016. I bought it really cheap with a slipping clutch, grinding gears, and many other issues from 7 previous owners mistreating it. Since then I've replaced the transmission, clutch, pressure plate, and the simple components of the suspension. It's definitely not the fastest or best performing car, but it's definitely styled right and turns heads with just halos and aftermarket wheels. By far one of my favorite cars I've owned. Great on gas mileage, I average about 28-31mpg every fill up. It's approaching 200k miles, but I definitely see it lasting as long as I stay in love with it. Overall, it's a fun, cheap project (after the major repairs required in my case, of course)!
