The 2007 Hyundai Veracruz is a mid-size crossover SUV, introduced as Hyundai's flagship SUV at the time. It was produced from 2007 to 2012. Key trims included the GLS, SE, and Limited. New, it ranged approximately from $27,000 to $33,000. Its appeal stemmed from its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and a good amount of features for the price, making it a strong value proposition in a competitive segment. It offered a more refined experience than some of its more utilitarian competitors.
The Good

The 2007 Hyundai Veracruz offered a comfortable and quiet ride, appealing to those seeking a relaxed driving experience (emotional). It provided a spacious interior for passengers and cargo, making it practical for families. Its competitive pricing made it a value-packed choice, and its V6 engine delivered adequate performance. Many buyers found it a reliable choice compared to some competitors.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz include potential issues with the transmission, particularly hard shifting. Some owners have reported problems with the electronic stability control (ESC) system. Fuel economy is average for its class, but not exceptional. The interior materials, while decent, may show wear and tear over time. Regular maintenance is crucial for longevity.

What Problems Does the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz often revolve around the transmission. Some owners have experienced hard or delayed shifting, and in some cases, complete transmission failure. Electronic stability control (ESC) system malfunctions have also been reported. Other concerns include issues with the power windows, particularly regulators failing. The sunroof can sometimes leak or malfunction.

Regarding recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database for specific recalls related to your VIN. There have been recalls concerning issues like brake light switch failures and potential for fires due to electrical shorts. Long-term reliability concerns primarily center around the aforementioned transmission and ESC issues. Regular maintenance, especially transmission fluid changes, is critical. The age of the vehicle means rubber components like hoses and seals are also likely to need replacement. Corrosion can also be a factor depending on the vehicle's location and exposure to road salt. Consulting repair history databases and owner forums can provide more specific insights into model-year-specific problems.

How long will the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz last?

Given its age, a well-maintained 2007 Hyundai Veracruz could easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Average mileage will vary significantly depending on individual driving habits and maintenance. Vehicles with consistent and timely maintenance, especially fluid changes (engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant), tend to last longer. Long-term durability is generally decent, but as mentioned previously, transmission issues are a key weakness. Suspension components, such as struts and bushings, will likely require replacement over time. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters and salted roads. Careful inspection for corrosion is vital when considering a used model. Regular inspection and addressing minor issues promptly can significantly extend the vehicle's lifespan.

This is the best car I've ever owned. I have 190,000 miles and have never had a problem from front to end. Routine maintenance is all it has ever required I hate that they are no longer making this car and am looking at possibly replacing it eventually with a Palisade.

Excellent family car. Reliable, comfortable. Rear DVD system makes kids happy. Love the heated and highly adjustable seats. I've owned 3 of these vehicles over past 10 years
Negative Owner Reviews

My husband was convinced that Hyundai has a car that is comparable to the Lexus (with their ad), and so we got the VeraCruz. I must say, features and luxury items were comparable with a unbeatable price. But Hyundai IS NOT a Lexus, or any other car they claim to be (they are now comparing the Genesis to Porsche Boxster...etc). Once our VeraCruz hit 9000miles (14mths old), the engine won't start. We had to jump start it daily at first. Thinking we may have left some of the lights on or something, we made sure all the lights (interior/exterior), radio, a/c were off everytime. But it still keeps dying. We took it to the dealership twice and they even replace the radio, claiming it was draining the battery. The problem started again 2 weeks after the radio were replaced. We called up HyundaiUSA to lodged a complain. The customer rep told us we'll have to wait 3-5 working days for someone to call us back. In the meantime, we just have to deal with the dead car, not even a courtesy car was offered. And within this time, the car went from bad to worse. It had to be jumped started each time we wanted to use the car. We called again on the 5th day to check on the status, they assured us we would receive the call in the afternoon. HyundaiUSA didn't call back until the 8th working day. We traded it off on the 7th day.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Hyundai Veracruz came standard with features that were competitive for its time. Base models included a CD player, power windows and locks, and keyless entry. Higher trims offered upgrades like a premium Infinity sound system, automatic climate control, and a sunroof. Navigation was available as an optional feature on the Limited trim. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but included standard ABS, electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control.

Safety features included front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for all three rows. For crash-test ratings, the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz generally performed well. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) awarded it good ratings in frontal and side-impact crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also gave it good ratings in its crash tests. Keep in mind that safety standards and testing methodologies have evolved significantly since 2007, so these ratings should be considered in the context of vehicles from that era. While it lacks modern features like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning, its fundamental safety design was solid for its time.

2007 Hyundai Veracruz Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz ranged from approximately $27,000 to $33,000 depending on the trim level and options. As of today, used market prices typically range from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Veracruz has experienced significant depreciation due to its age and the introduction of newer, more technologically advanced vehicles. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's overall condition, maintenance history, mileage, and any prior accidents. Models with lower mileage, a clean title, and documented maintenance records will command higher prices. The trim level also plays a role, with Limited models generally fetching more than base GLS trims.

2007 Hyundai Veracruz Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz are relatively low due to its age and moderate value. Fuel costs are average for a mid-size SUV with a V6 engine. Maintenance and repair costs can be moderate to high, especially if the transmission requires attention. Long-term ownership costs can be higher than some competitors due to potential repairs associated with an older vehicle. Overall, while initial purchase costs are low, potential maintenance and repair expenses mean it might not be the most economical choice for budget-conscious buyers.

2007 Hyundai Veracruz Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 Hyundai Veracruz competed with vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Murano, and Chevrolet Traverse. In terms of price, the Veracruz generally offered a better value than the Highlander and Pilot when new. Performance was comparable to its rivals, though some competitors offered slightly better fuel economy. The Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot were generally considered more reliable long-term. Feature-wise, the Veracruz offered a competitive set of amenities, especially in higher trims.

If reliability is a top priority, a used Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot might be a better choice, albeit at a potentially higher price point. The Nissan Murano offered a more stylish design but might not be as practical for families needing three rows. The Chevrolet Traverse provided more cargo space but potentially lower perceived quality in some areas. Considering the age of the vehicles, condition and maintenance history are paramount. If finding a well-maintained Veracruz at a significantly lower price than a comparable Highlander or Pilot, it could still be a viable option, provided you factor in potential repair costs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 Hyundai Veracruz is best suited for budget-conscious buyers seeking a spacious and comfortable used SUV. It's a decent option if you prioritize value over long-term reliability, but only if you can find one in good condition with documented maintenance. It's generally not worth buying if you're unwilling to invest in potential repairs. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Consider the Limited trim for more features, but be prepared to pay a slightly higher price. Given its age, a newer, more reliable alternative might be a wiser investment for those seeking peace of mind.

Best Luxury SUV I've owned

I liked this better than the Lexus I test drove. It has all the luxury with plenty of cargo space; I always kept third row folded down since I didn't need the extra seating, but love garage sales. I will truly miss the heated auto-dimming side mirrors for night drives.

Fun to drive roomy SUV

This SUV has plenty of room inside yet doesn't look that big from the outside. My wife has had it for about 6 years now and it has over 210,000 miles on it and still performs strong. My wife won't even consider trading it in on another vehicle she likes it so well. Issues have had include replacing the cd player/radio, driver seat electric switch controls and valve cover gaskets to stop small engine oil drips.

Have had no problems to date.

They quit making this model in 2012, replaced by the Sante Fe I believe. Has all the bells and whistles you need, considering it's a 2007. It has 3 rows of seating which is a little tight ( 4 teenagers) but they'll be gone shortly so then I'll have plenty of room.
