Analysis
What Problems Does the 2008 Lexus GS 350 Have?
- Dashboard Cracking: A common issue where the dashboard develops cracks, often due to sun exposure. This is primarily a cosmetic issue but can detract from the interior's appearance.
- Navigation System Issues: The navigation system can experience failures or glitches. Map updates are also dated and expensive.
- Carbon Build-Up: The direct injection engine can be prone to carbon build-up on the intake valves, potentially affecting performance and fuel economy. Regular maintenance and cleaning can mitigate this.
- Oxygen Sensors: Some owners have reported issues with oxygen sensor failures.
- Suspension Component Wear: At this age, suspension components like control arm bushings and struts may require replacement.
Recalls:
Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any specific recalls related to the 2008 Lexus GS 350. Recalls are usually related to safety issues and are repaired free of charge by Lexus dealerships.
Long-Term Reliability Concerns:
Overall, the GS 350 is known for its reliability. However, like any older vehicle, maintenance is crucial. Keep an eye on fluid leaks (oil, coolant, transmission fluid), listen for unusual noises from the engine or transmission, and address any warning lights promptly. Regular oil changes with high-quality synthetic oil is crucial for preventing carbon buildup. Early models of this generation (2006-2007) had some reported issues with valve springs, but this was generally resolved by 2008.

How Does the 2008 Lexus GS 350 Compare to Other Sedan?
Alternatives to consider include:
- Acura TL: Offers a similar blend of luxury and reliability at a potentially lower price point.
- Infiniti G35/G37: More sporty and engaging to drive than the GS 350, but may not be as refined.
- Lexus ES 350: If comfort and reliability are top priorities and performance is less critical, the ES 350 is an excellent choice.
- Acura RL: Another solid luxury sedan known for its reliability.
If reliability is paramount and you appreciate a comfortable ride, the GS 350 is a strong contender. However, if you prioritize driving dynamics above all else, the BMW 5 Series might be a better fit. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers a similar level of luxury but can be more expensive to maintain.

What a great surpriseWe needed to buy a car for our vacation home and looked around at a few of them. We landed on this used Lexus and came to learn a new meaning of the word luxury. This Lexus is quiet and a great ride. The interior is in great condition and the overall design is spacious while being compact. We love this car.

Really enjoyed using this car!Everything about this car is perfect. The design (inside and out), performance, comfort, and reliability. Drove this car day-to-day for a long time. Reached over 130,000 miles on it and it still drove like it was new. I will forever love Lexus because of this GS 350. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

outstanding value all aroundBefore I bought this Lexus, I previously owned 3 BMW's in a row. This car is superior by far to every one of them. The great styling, performance, sound system and minimal maintenance needs make this a real value. The cabin head room can be a little tight if you are over 6 feet tall and the miles per gallon on the street and highway is only about average. However, the dependability and overall driving experience make those minor distractions. You will need to change the oil every 5K and get new brakes and tires about every 30K miles. I have had this car 10 years and I still get stares on the street and compliments on it's looks. At 90K miles, I am not even thinking about buying another car.
