The Good
The 2021 Nissan Versa boasts excellent fuel efficiency, making it attractive to budget-conscious buyers. Its redesigned exterior offers a more stylish and modern aesthetic. Practical buyers appreciate its affordability and comprehensive safety features. Emotional appeal comes from its surprisingly comfortable interior and available tech, making it a pleasant daily driver, exceeding expectations for the price.
The Bad
The 2021 Nissan Versa's engine performance is adequate but can feel underpowered, especially when fully loaded or on inclines. Some reviewers note the continuously variable transmission (CVT) can be noisy and unrefined. Base models lack certain desirable features. Also, be mindful of potential long-term CVT reliability, a common concern with Nissan vehicles. Check for any unusual noises or slipping during a test drive.

What Problems Does the 2021 Nissan Versa Have?
There may have been recalls for the 2021 model year related to specific safety systems or components. It's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website using the VIN of any prospective vehicle to verify if it has been subject to any recalls and whether the necessary repairs have been performed.
Long-term reliability can depend heavily on maintenance habits. Neglecting routine maintenance, especially CVT fluid changes, can significantly impact the vehicle's lifespan. Some owners have reported minor issues with the infotainment system or electrical components, but these are generally less common. Overall, the 2021 Versa is reasonably reliable if properly maintained, but the CVT remains the primary area of potential concern.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
In terms of driver-assistance and safety, all Versa models come standard with automatic emergency braking, which is a significant safety feature. The SV trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, providing added peace of mind. Optional features, depending on the trim, may include adaptive cruise control and a driver attention alert system.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific details. Generally, the Versa performs well in crash tests, offering good occupant protection. However, specific ratings may vary depending on the test criteria. These safety features contribute to the Versaβs overall value and appeal, making it a competitive option in the subcompact segment.

How Does the 2021 Nissan Versa Compare to Other Sedan?
Reliability is where the Versa lags slightly behind the Accent and Rio, primarily due to concerns surrounding the CVT. While the Mirage offers excellent fuel economy and a long warranty, its overall refinement and performance are lacking compared to the Versa. If reliability is a top priority, the Hyundai Accent or Kia Rio might be better alternatives. For those prioritizing fuel efficiency and a basic, affordable option, the Mitsubishi Mirage could be considered. However, the Versa strikes a reasonable balance between price, features, and overall practicality, making it a worthy contender in its class for budget-minded buyers.
An alternative to the Versa worth considering is a slightly used Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. These vehicles offer improved reliability, performance, and resale value, albeit at a higher initial cost.

21 versaAfter purchasing a '21 versa, I found it got great gas mileage, around 38 city and 42 highway. The only thing I don't like is the back window. Very hard to clean (inside), no wiper, so when it rains you can't see through it

Hate this carJust bought the 2021 Versa and the check engine light has come on 3 times already. I have never felt unsafe in a new car. The dealership told me they can put me in a new car, didnβt happen. They said I had to wait until June, it was too early. I want a safe car and one I love. I hat this car.

Great gas mileage!Bought this when I needed better fuel efficiency than I was getting in my previous vehicle. I currently have just over 12,000 miles on it, and my gas mileage is at 42.8 mpg total. That is getting close to the hybrid range. Very pleased. It still has plenty of power to get up to highway speed as well. Cruises very well at 70-75 mph.

Check engine lightSo far, it's a great car. The check engine light came on at a little over 3000 miles. Reading a P0128 code. Took it to the dealer, but it will be at least 2 days before getting a diagnosis. Hope it's a fluke. Cup holders are in an awkward spot. Overall, good performance.
