The 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost, a smaller sibling to the Phantom, offers a blend of luxury and driving dynamics. As a four-door sedan, it debuted aiming to appeal to a slightly younger demographic. Key trims included the standard Ghost and the extended wheelbase (EWB) version. The 2012 model year continued the first generation of Ghosts. Original pricing ranged from around $250,000, making it an "entry-level" Rolls-Royce. Its hand-crafted interior and powerful engine make it highly desirable.
The Good

The 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost offers exceptional performance from its powerful V12 engine. Comfort is paramount, with a meticulously crafted interior and smooth ride. Its iconic design exudes prestige. While not particularly efficient, its reliability is generally good for a luxury vehicle, appealing to practical buyers. Emotionally, it represents status and exclusivity.

What Problems Does the 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost often revolve around its complex electronics. Glitches in the infotainment system, navigation, and driver-assistance features are not uncommon. Air suspension malfunctions are another area of concern, potentially leading to a compromised ride quality and expensive repairs. Some owners have reported issues with the car's various sensors and warning lights.

While recalls are relatively infrequent for Rolls-Royce, it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database for any applicable recalls related to the 2012 model year.

Long-term reliability concerns primarily center around the cost of maintaining such a complex vehicle. The availability of specialized parts and qualified technicians can be limited, driving up repair expenses. Regular servicing, as per Rolls-Royce's recommendations, is crucial to prevent major issues. Deferred maintenance can quickly lead to a cascade of problems. Older models may exhibit issues related to the degradation of rubber components, such as hoses and seals. Proper storage and climate control can help mitigate some of these age-related concerns.

How long will the 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost last?

Given its age and intended use, a 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost might have accumulated anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000+ miles. With diligent maintenance, these vehicles can provide over 10 years of service. However, long-term durability hinges on adherence to Rolls-Royce's recommended maintenance schedule.

Weaknesses over time often manifest in the air suspension system, which can become prone to leaks and require expensive repairs. The sophisticated electronics can also exhibit age-related failures. Proper climate control during storage is crucial to prevent premature wear and tear on interior components.

How Does the 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost competes with ultra-luxury sedans like the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and Aston Martin Rapide. In terms of performance, the Ghost's V12 offers comparable power to its rivals. Features are generally on par, with an emphasis on luxury and customization.

Reliability-wise, the Bentley Continental Flying Spur might be considered a slightly more reliable alternative. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class offers a more modern technology suite and potentially lower maintenance costs. The Aston Martin Rapide prioritizes sportier handling.

Price is a major differentiator. While all these vehicles are expensive, the Rolls-Royce Ghost commands a premium due to its brand cachet and bespoke options.

Alternatives to consider, depending on priorities:
  • Bentley Continental Flying Spur: For similar luxury with potentially better reliability.
  • Mercedes-Maybach S-Class: For cutting-edge technology and a slightly more practical ownership experience.
The Ghost offers a unique blend of luxury, performance, and prestige, making it appealing to a specific clientele willing to pay the premium.

Consider purchasing a well-maintained example with a comprehensive service history. The standard Ghost offers a slightly more agile driving experience, while the EWB model prioritizes rear passenger comfort. Be prepared for expensive maintenance and repairs.

The first night I couldn't sleep cause I thought I would be judged, I thought I would be robbed, and I thought i over paid for a car. By night two, after driving it around for about an hour, I felt like the luckiest man cause I get to drive this car (and be married to the most wonderful woman in the world), which makes a Lexus 570 feel like a rough drive, and Bentley feel cheap. If you can afford it, you wont regret it. And its little eaiser to drive than the Phantom.
