The 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost is a luxury sedan designed to offer a more driver-focused experience than its larger sibling, the Phantom. It boasts a sleek, elegant design while retaining quintessential Rolls-Royce cues. The Ghost, offered in standard and extended wheelbase versions, features a powerful V12 engine and opulent interior. New, prices ranged from $260,000 to over $300,000, depending on options. Its blend of performance, luxury, and relative agility makes it popular among discerning buyers.
The Good

The 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost offers exhilarating performance from its V12 engine and unparalleled ride comfort. Its iconic design exudes prestige, appealing to emotional buyers. Practically, it provides a luxurious and spacious cabin, advanced technology, and, for a Rolls-Royce, relatively reasonable reliability. The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost include high running costs (fuel, maintenance, and insurance). Complex electronics can be prone to glitches, requiring specialized repairs. What Problems Does the 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost Have?

While Rolls-Royce aims for impeccable quality, the 2014 Ghost isn't immune to problems. Frequently reported issues often revolve around the complex electronics that control various vehicle functions. These can manifest as glitches in the infotainment system, sensor malfunctions (parking sensors, adaptive cruise control), or issues with the air suspension. Battery drain can also be a concern, especially if the car is not driven regularly. Some owners have reported minor oil leaks.
Recalls, while not overwhelmingly common, can occur. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to see if any recalls apply.
Long-term reliability hinges heavily on maintenance. Neglecting scheduled servicing can lead to accelerated wear and tear on critical components, increasing the likelihood of expensive repairs. The air suspension system, in particular, requires careful attention. Owners should be prepared for higher-than-average maintenance costs compared to non-luxury vehicles. Regularly check the condition of tires and brake system.
Model year-specific issues aren't particularly prevalent, but staying informed about potential problems through owner forums and Rolls-Royce service bulletins is advisable. Regular diagnostics by a certified Rolls-Royce technician are crucial to identify and address potential problems early on.

How long will the 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost last?

Given its age and intended use, a 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost could have accumulated anywhere from 30,000 to 80,000 miles or more. With meticulous maintenance, these vehicles can provide well over a decade of service.
Long-term durability hinges on proper care. Weaknesses that may emerge over time include deterioration of leather and wood trim, potential air suspension issues (air leaks or compressor failure), and electrical system gremlins. Regular servicing, including fluid changes and inspections, is vital to prolong the Ghost's lifespan. High-quality replacement parts are crucial to maintain the performance and reliability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost boasts a comprehensive suite of technology and safety features. The infotainment system, while not the most modern by today's standards, includes navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and a premium audio system designed for exceptional sound quality. Rear-seat passengers could enjoy optional entertainment systems with screens and DVD players.

Driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, which maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead, and a rearview camera for easier parking. Optional features included lane departure warning and night vision.

Safety features encompass a full array of airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control.
Crash test ratings from organizations like NHTSA and IIHS are generally unavailable for ultra-luxury vehicles like the Ghost, as they are not typically subjected to these tests. However, the Ghost's robust construction and advanced safety systems contribute to occupant protection. The car's advanced braking system ensures powerful and consistent stopping power. Optional features like head-up display were also available. Voice control was standard, which allowed drivers to control vehicle functions while keeping their hands on the wheel.

2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost ranged from approximately $260,000 to over $300,000, depending on options and configuration. As of 2024, used market prices can vary significantly based on mileage, condition, and history, typically ranging from $100,000 to $175,000.
Depreciation is considerable, but Ghosts hold their value relatively well compared to other ultra-luxury sedans. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, service history, the presence of desirable options (like rear-seat entertainment or a bespoke interior), and overall condition. Cars with documented service records and lower mileage command higher prices.

2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost Cost of Ownership

Owning a 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost is undeniably costly. Insurance premiums are substantial due to the vehicle's high value and repair costs. Fuel consumption is high, given the powerful V12 engine. Maintenance and repairs are expensive, requiring specialized technicians and genuine Rolls-Royce parts. Long-term ownership costs are significantly higher than those of mainstream vehicles. This car is certainly not economical, but luxury and exclusivity come at a price. Plan on spending thousands per year on upkeep.

How Does the 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost competes with ultra-luxury sedans like the Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and Aston Martin Rapide.

Performance: The Ghost offers comparable performance to the Flying Spur, both boasting powerful engines. The Maybach prioritizes comfort over outright performance, while the Rapide offers a sportier driving experience.

Features: All offer similar levels of luxury and features, but the Rolls-Royce stands out for its bespoke customization options.

Reliability: The Maybach tends to be slightly more reliable than the Ghost, while the Bentley can have similar maintenance needs. Aston Martin can have unique maintenance needs, but the Rapide is quite rare.

Price: The Ghost is typically priced higher than the Maybach but in line with the Flying Spur. Used prices depend heavily on condition and mileage.

Alternatives: If reliability is a top concern, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is a strong alternative. For a more driver-focused experience, the Aston Martin Rapide (if you can find one) is worth considering. If the sheer prestige of the Rolls-Royce brand isn't paramount, the Bentley Flying Spur offers a similar blend of luxury and performance.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost a Good Sedan?

The 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost is ideal for discerning buyers seeking a luxurious and prestigious sedan that offers a blend of performance and comfort. It's worth buying *if* you understand and can afford the high running costs and potential maintenance needs. A used Ghost can represent a significant saving over new, but a thorough pre-purchase inspection is essential. Look for models with comprehensive service records and lower mileage. Consider the extended wheelbase version for maximum rear passenger comfort. Be prepared for depreciation, and factor in specialized maintenance requirements.

Wonderful Car - Affordable to keep

I have a 2014 RR Ghost V-spec. I put 5,000 miles a year on it. It is reliable. The fact that it is timeless, keeps me from wanting to upgrade the car. I plan on keeping it. As a result, this car is saving me from the annual depreciation hit I was getting on my AMG Mercedes S classes - $50k a year! It is a BMW underneath with all the tech and reliability that comes with that brand. I am careful to make certain I can park it properly wherever I take it. That is the only downfall that I can see. I am retired.

Luxury

From the moment you first sit in the vehicle, you can instantly feel the utter luxury this vehicle has to offer. Revving the engine assures you of the power that lies underneath the hood. Not only does this vehicle offer you tons of power, it is the smoothest ride you can get around. If you can afford to buy this vehicle, then do not hesitate.
