The Good
The 2020 Volvo S90 excels in comfort, offering a serene cabin and supportive seats. Its elegant Scandinavian design appeals emotionally, while its emphasis on safety and efficient powertrains (including available hybrid) attract practical buyers. Performance is adequate, and predicted reliability is generally good. Value is strong given its features and luxury feel.
The Bad
Some common complaints involve the S90's infotainment system, which can be slow or unintuitive for some users. The rear seat headroom can be limited for taller passengers due to the sloping roofline. Handling isn't as sporty as some rivals, focusing instead on comfort. Potential buyers should check for software updates and test the infotainment system thoroughly.

What Problems Does the 2020 Volvo S90 Have?
Another area of concern, though less frequent, relates to electrical system gremlins. These can manifest as intermittent sensor failures or malfunctions with the advanced driver-assistance systems. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to warning lights are crucial.
Regarding recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any specific recalls affecting the 2020 S90. While I don't have real-time access to recall data, typical recalls might address issues with airbags, fuel systems, or other safety-related components. Long-term reliability generally appears to be average for its class. While Volvo has a reputation for safety, modern Volvos, with their complex electronics, require consistent maintenance to avoid potential problems down the line. Some owners report issues with the hybrid system in the T8 models, particularly battery degradation over time, which can affect electric range. Therefore, a thorough inspection, especially of the infotainment system and hybrid components (if applicable), is highly recommended when considering a used 2020 S90.
How long will the 2020 Volvo S90 last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are extensive, including standard lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and Pilot Assist, Volvo's semi-autonomous driving system that can assist with steering, acceleration, and braking on well-marked roads. Adaptive cruise control is also available.
Safety is a Volvo hallmark, and the S90 doesn't disappoint. It features a high-strength steel safety cage and numerous airbags. It also includes City Safety, Volvo's automatic emergency braking system that can detect pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.
Optional features include a head-up display, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and park assist.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are typically excellent for the S90, reflecting Volvo's commitment to safety. It's important to check the latest ratings from these organizations for the 2020 model year specifically, as ratings can change.

How Does the 2020 Volvo S90 Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?
Feature-wise, the S90 is competitive, especially in safety and driver-assistance tech. However, its infotainment system isn't as intuitive as those in some rivals. Reliability is a mixed bag; the Lexus ES is generally more reliable, while the German cars can be more prone to issues.
Price-wise, the S90 is often slightly more affordable than the German competitors, making it a good value proposition. If you prioritize sporty driving, the BMW 5 Series is a better choice. If reliability is paramount, the Lexus ES is a strong contender. The Audi A6 provides a similar experience but may have higher ownership costs. The Genesis G80 offers a similar level of luxury at a more affordable price point and is worth considering.

Final Verdict: Is the 2020 Volvo S90 a Good Passenger Sedan?

Everything is 5 star until you begin to driveI loved it when I drove it out of the showroom. The Interior is beautiful and refined. The exterior styling is sleek and understated. But after two years the love is gone. It's still a pleasure to sit in, just not a pleasure to drive. The suspension and ride are not on par with the styling and interior. You feel every crack and crevice. The low-profile tires may look good but they perform terribly. Multiple flats and bent rims over the past two years driving on suburban streets. I am a 5x Volvo owner. I don't see a 6th in the future.

S90 Inscription: Best of the Best!My 2020 Volvo S90 Inscription came loaded with every available option and I had the dealership install the Polestar software increasing the horsepower and tightening the suspension making this car an absolute joy to drive. The S90 replaced my 4-year old S550 and trumps the Benz in just about every category with the exception of price, perceived status, and cost of ownership and this is coming from someone who has owned no fewer than 19 M-Bβs including 11 S and SL class. The S90 seems to be a rare bird and a well-kept secret as I see so few of them in Connecticut. I set out to purchase the new Genesis and even test drove a new 7-series, but when the dust settled, the S90 offered everything that I was looking for in a full size sedan with absolutely no compromise. No one can rival the comfort of a Volvo seat and when paired with the concert level Bowers and Wilkins sound system often finds me taking the long route home. Itβs that nice!

Best price for luxury and sportMy previous car was a 2018 Genesis G80 3.3 T. I was looking for a car that was a good mix of luxury and sporty. I considered another Genesis, but the S90 R series more then met my needs, and the price was right in line with what I was willing to pay.

Sporty and PrettyI like the get-up-and-go in this car even though it's a 4 cylinder engine. I also like the luxury and comfort of this car! Never thought I'd own a new S90, but here we are on

The best luxury sedanI went from a 2017 S90 T6 to a 2020 S90 R design. Drove BMW 5 series and also a Benz E350. This car by far was the best option for me. The driving and handling is exceptional. The design is elegant.. the interior is simply beautiful. The 2020 model has lot more space in the back seat. plenty of power! Maybe I am showing my age but I wish it had a CD player.
