The Cruze gained popularity for its comfortable ride, stylish design, and available technology features. Its original MSRP ranged approximately from $17,000 to $24,000 depending on the trim and options.
The Good

The 2016 Cruze offers a comfortable ride and a surprisingly spacious interior, appealing to both practical needs and emotional desire for comfort. Its turbocharged engine provides decent fuel efficiency, making it an economical choice. A stylish design adds to its appeal. What Problems Does the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze include issues with the automatic transmission, sometimes described as rough shifting or hesitation. Some owners have also reported coolant leaks, potentially stemming from the water pump or other components in the cooling system. Electrical problems, such as issues with the infotainment system or sensor malfunctions, have also been noted.
Several recalls have been issued for the 2016 Cruze, including recalls related to potential fuel leaks, airbag deployment issues, and problems with the electronic parking brake. Checking the vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA website is crucial to determine if it has been subject to any unrepaired recalls.
Long-term reliability concerns center around the potential for transmission and cooling system failures as the vehicle ages. Addressing any warning signs promptly, such as unusual noises or fluid leaks, is important to prevent more significant and costly repairs. Regular maintenance and adherence to the recommended service schedule can also help mitigate some of these potential issues. Some model years might have different issues, so researching specific model years is advisable before purchase.

How long will the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze last?

With proper maintenance, a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles, or approximately 10 to 13 years of service, depending on driving conditions and maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires, and addressing any mechanical issues promptly are crucial for long-term durability.
Weaknesses over time tend to involve the transmission and cooling system, as mentioned previously. Keeping a close eye on these areas and proactively addressing any problems can help extend the vehicle's lifespan. Rust can also become a concern in regions with harsh winters or road salt usage, so regular washing and waxing are advisable.

I brought this car used a year ago and have been having trouble since I've purchased it. The alarm system, among other things. Not good.

Car has electrical problems Driver side Head light went out along with rear passenger side light change bulbs still not working n then on top break system followed n Its shot all this after replacing a $600 dollar radio what a waste

My second clutch is starting to fail. The car has less than 21,000 miles on it, and I just had to pull the clutch up with my toe. It has been replaced by the dealer once already. How does a clutch fail? They are practically no-brainers for car designers, one would think. I’ve driven a manual transmission since 1966, and I am certain I did not tear the clutch out myself. I have had this new one six months. GM has had problems with the clutch in 2017 and 2018 models also, and you can find numerous complaints online. Why continue to use this clutch? It is a major design flaw that could be fixed and hasn’t. Should be a recall.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze offers a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its class. All models come standard with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, featuring a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration. Higher trims offered an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a premium audio system.
Driver-assistance features include a rearview camera as standard, while optional features on higher trims include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and forward collision alert. These features enhance safety and provide additional peace of mind.
Safety features include antilock brakes, stability control, and a full complement of airbags. The 2016 Cruze received generally positive crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It earned a 5-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. Optional features include enhanced safety packages with advanced driver-assistance systems.

2016 Chevrolet Cruze Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze had an MSRP ranging from approximately $17,000 to $24,000, depending on the trim level and optional features. Current used market prices typically range from $7,000 to $13,000, but can vary based on condition, mileage, and location.
The Cruze has experienced significant depreciation, common for compact cars. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's overall condition, maintenance history, mileage, and trim level. Models with lower mileage, a clean title, and a documented service history generally command higher prices. The Premier trim tends to hold its value slightly better than the base L or LS trims.

2016 Chevrolet Cruze Cost of Ownership

The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate, and fuel economy is excellent, especially on highway driving. Routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, is relatively affordable. However, potential repairs related to the transmission or cooling system could increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, the Cruze offers a good balance of affordability and practicality, but budgeting for potential repairs is advisable.

Decent little car

I have a 2016 LT RS with 70k miles on it. It is my daily driver. I just never had to drive very far for work. My only issue with this car is that I need to use higher octane fuel in the spring/summer. If I do not then it drives so slow when using the AC. It also jerks from time to time when coming to a stop. That only happens in the warmer months. Other than that I have no real issues with it. I don't drive it hard.

Engine Problems

Terrible! Avoid at all costs. Car died on me a few weeks ago. Dealership says it’s the engine and that there was no oil like I neglected it. I have been getting regular oil changes. I believe the 2016 Chevy Cruze has an engine problem and that costed the oil to burn. If investigation of oil pan doesn’t go well I’m looking to pay 10,000 out of pocket at which point I will be getting a new vehicle and avoiding the Chevy brand at all costs. Save y’all money.

While it is small, I love my little car. Backseat is quite small but big enough for a couple of children. It has good pickup, fun to drive.
