Rating: 4.70
Based on 21 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2007 GMC Envoy is a mid-size SUV that was part of the second generation, spanning from 2002 to 2009. It's a body-on-frame SUV offering a blend of truck-like capability and passenger comfort. Key trims included the SLE, SLT, and Denali. When new, pricing ranged from approximately $28,000 to $38,000. Its combination of a powerful engine, comfortable ride, and available features like four-wheel drive made it a popular choice for families and those needing towing capacity.
The Good

The 2007 GMC Envoy offers a powerful engine for confident acceleration and towing (practical). It boasts a comfortable ride, making it suitable for families (emotional). Its traditional SUV design appeals to those who prefer a rugged aesthetic (emotional). While fuel efficiency isn't its strongest suit, it offers good value for its capabilities, especially on the used market (practical).

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2007 GMC Envoy include fuel economy, which is lower compared to more modern SUVs. Some owners have reported issues with the electrical system, including the HVAC controls and door lock actuators. Suspension components can also wear out over time, leading to a less comfortable ride. Rust can be a concern in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2007 GMC Envoy Have?

The 2007 GMC Envoy, like other vehicles of its age, has some frequently reported problems and reliability concerns. One common issue involves the HVAC system, specifically the blend door actuator, which can cause inconsistent temperature control. Electrical problems, such as malfunctioning door lock actuators and issues with the instrument cluster, are also frequently reported. The four-wheel-drive system, particularly the transfer case, can experience issues, especially with age and lack of maintenance. Some owners have reported problems with the fuel gauge sending unit, leading to inaccurate fuel level readings.

Recalls for the 2007 GMC Envoy varied, and it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information. Common recall areas for this generation of Envoy included issues with the brake light switch, which could affect the cruise control and shift interlock functions. Some models may have experienced recalls related to the fuel system.

Long-term reliability concerns include potential rust issues, particularly in areas where road salt is used. Suspension components, such as ball joints and control arm bushings, can wear out over time, leading to a less comfortable ride and potential handling issues. The engine and transmission are generally considered reliable if properly maintained, but neglect can lead to costly repairs. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, is crucial to maximizing the lifespan of a 2007 GMC Envoy.

How long will the 2007 GMC Envoy last?

A 2007 GMC Envoy, with proper maintenance, can realistically reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reaching this milestone with regular servicing and addressing issues promptly. However, long-term durability depends heavily on maintenance habits. Neglecting fluid changes, ignoring warning signs, and skipping routine inspections can significantly shorten its lifespan.

Over time, common weaknesses include rust, particularly in northern climates. Suspension components wear out, impacting ride quality. Electrical gremlins can surface, and the engine and transmission, while generally robust, require diligent care to avoid major problems. Properly maintained, the Envoy can provide many years of reliable service, but deferred maintenance will lead to a decline in reliability and increased repair costs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 GMC Envoy offered a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard features included air conditioning, power windows and locks, and an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims, like the SLT and Denali, added features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and upgraded audio systems, sometimes including a Bose sound system. Optional entertainment features included a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, appealing to families.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. ABS (Antilock Braking System) and traction control were standard. Some models included optional features like rear parking sensors. Safety features included front airbags and side-impact airbags for front occupants.

Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) can provide insights into the Envoy's safety performance. While specific ratings may vary, the Envoy generally performed reasonably well in frontal and side-impact crash tests for its class and era. It's important to consult the official NHTSA and IIHS websites for specific ratings and test results for the 2007 model year.

Navigation was an available option but was a relatively basic system by today's standards. Bluetooth connectivity was not widely available on this model year. Overall, the 2007 Envoy offered a functional but not particularly advanced set of tech and safety features compared to more modern SUVs.

2007 GMC Envoy Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 GMC Envoy's price ranged from approximately $28,000 to $38,000, depending on the trim level and options. Currently, on the used market, prices typically range from $3,000 to $8,000, contingent on condition, mileage, and location. The Envoy has experienced significant depreciation due to its age and the availability of newer, more fuel-efficient SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's overall condition, mileage, service history, and the presence of desirable options like four-wheel drive or the Denali trim. Vehicles with a clean title and documented maintenance records command higher prices.

2007 GMC Envoy Cost of Ownership

The 2007 GMC Envoy is not considered particularly economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate, but fuel costs can be high due to its relatively poor fuel economy. Maintenance costs can be average, but repair costs can be higher than average due to the age of the vehicle and the potential for component failures. Long-term ownership costs will depend heavily on the vehicle's condition and how well it has been maintained. Budgeting for potential repairs is crucial when considering a used 2007 Envoy.

2007 GMC Envoy Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 GMC Envoy is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 GMC Envoy Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

The 2007 GMC Envoy competed against other mid-size SUVs like the Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner, and Nissan Pathfinder. In terms of performance, the Envoy's V8 engine provided competitive power and towing capacity, but its fuel economy lagged behind some rivals. Feature-wise, it offered a decent array of amenities for its time, but some competitors offered more advanced technology.

Reliability is a mixed bag. While the Envoy's engine and transmission are generally reliable, some electrical and suspension issues are common. The Toyota 4Runner is generally considered more reliable in the long term, though it can be more expensive on the used market. The Jeep Grand Cherokee offered similar capabilities and features, but reliability can also be a concern.

In terms of price, the 2007 GMC Envoy is typically more affordable on the used market than the Toyota 4Runner. A similarly equipped Ford Explorer might be priced similarly. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota 4Runner is a better alternative, despite the higher cost. If budget is a primary concern and you're willing to accept potential maintenance, the Envoy offers a decent value proposition. The Nissan Pathfinder can be another option, but research specific model year reliability.

Overall, the 2007 GMC Envoy is a decent choice if affordability and a powerful engine are key considerations. However, potential buyers should be aware of the potential reliability issues and factor in maintenance costs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 GMC Envoy a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

The 2007 GMC Envoy is ideal for budget-conscious buyers needing a mid-size SUV with decent towing capacity. It's worth buying *used*, provided a thorough inspection reveals no major issues and the price reflects its age and potential maintenance needs. The SLT trim offers a good balance of features and value. It's *not* recommended for those prioritizing fuel economy or cutting-edge technology.

Consider it a worthwhile purchase if you're prepared to address potential maintenance and repairs. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Look for a well-maintained example with documented service records to minimize potential problems. If you can find one in good condition for a reasonable price, it can be a practical and affordable SUV.

Best SUV

I purchased my 2007 Envoy with 7 miles on it in 2007 I now have over 254,000 miles on it. The vehicle still runs like the first day I purchased it. It has original exhaust on it. I replaced brakes 4 times just because I’m hard brakes the suspension was replaced at 150,000 miles. I really wished they would make this SUV again it’s hard to find something that rides so nice and that is this size. The towing power this vehicle has is amazing. Regular maintenance helps a vehicle go a long way

Absolutely a Comfortable Vehicle for commuting....

Just bought a 2009 Envoy SLE from my job at a Buick GMC dealership a couple of weeks ago. It had just 86,000 miles and I absolutely love it. Its comfortable for my 40 minute commute to and from work. I sit up high and gas mileage is decent. Its a great car, however it could have just a bit more storage but its really not a deal breaker. I hope to own this same vehicle to well over 200,000 miles. Can not wait till winter to try out the 4WD. Would definitely recommend this to someone else.

Acura Integra

Bought this to use as an every day drive around town type vehicle. Liked the size of it because it is big enough to haul the type a larger items I would purchase. It had 100000 miles on it when I bough it 7 years ago it now has 165000 miles and I have had to replace ball joints, struts, wheel bearings, electrical problems on the dashboard, fuel pump and more. Now the unibody is rusted through. It won’t pass inspection so I’m gonna have to scrap it. BUYING THIS CAR WAS A BIG MISTAKE!

Best, most versatile vehicle I’ve ever had.

Bought it from Lakeshore Auto in Erie PA. You can tell right off that this place took real good care to make this car as good condition as a used car could be. All rust spots where treated, and Rino lining added on bottom to protect it from weather. I got this SUV just for driving in snow, and it is wonderful. I feel I got a new car at used price. 10/10 will shop there again. No hassle, straight forward sale.

This vehicle has the 5.3L V8 which I needed for my commute up and over a mountain pass. The fuel economy is what I expected and the ride is very smooth. I thoroughly enjoy driving my 2007 GMC Envoy Denali!
