Analysis
What Problems Does the 2003 Lexus GS 300 Have?
While specific recalls for the 2003 model year might be found on the NHTSA website, common areas of concern, across the GS 300's production run, have sometimes involved potential fuel leaks.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the automatic transmission, although proper maintenance can mitigate these risks. Rust can become an issue in regions with harsh winters, particularly on the undercarriage. The navigation system, if equipped, is outdated by modern standards and may experience functionality issues. Routine maintenance, such as timely oil changes and fluid flushes, is crucial to maximizing the GS 300's lifespan. Checking for any error codes using an OBD-II scanner is advisable before purchasing a used model.
How long will the 2003 Lexus GS 300 last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features included a navigation system, heated front seats, a Mark Levinson premium sound system (which significantly improved audio quality), and a moonroof. The navigation system, while advanced for its time, is quite dated compared to modern systems.
Safety features were comprehensive for the era, with standard front airbags, side airbags, and ABS. The GS 300 also featured daytime running lights.
Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) should be consulted for specific scores. While specific scores may vary, the GS 300 generally performed well in crash tests, reflecting Lexus's commitment to safety. It's important to remember that safety technology has advanced considerably since 2003.

How Does the 2003 Lexus GS 300 Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?
In terms of features, the GS 300 was competitive, offering a similar level of luxury and technology as its rivals. However, the German competitors often had more advanced options available, albeit at a higher price.
Alternatives to the GS 300 include the Acura TL, which offers a good balance of reliability, features, and price. The Infiniti I35 is another value-oriented option. If performance is a priority, the BMW 5 Series is a strong contender, but be prepared for higher maintenance costs. Overall, the GS 300 stands out for its blend of luxury, reliability, and reasonable price, making it a compelling choice for buyers seeking a dependable luxury sedan.

Experience Amazing.I inherited my 2003 Lexus GS 300. My mothers husband bought it new in 2003. It was kept in the garage, so the paint cured and never faded. Both retired, they didn't drive either car very much. He passed in 2010 and my mom kept her Nissan but preferred driving the Lexus. We listed her Nissan for sale. Later when mom passed in 2017 I kept the car. Today at 58,000 miles in 2023, the engine is still clean (no oil blowby) and there are no problems. I do long for newer upgraded technology, like back up camera, GPS screen, USB ports. But remembering my first 1966 car, do I really need to spend $60,000 for a new one? Maybe one day. The only issue is the cupholders are in a cramped place, and it makes it easy to bump the seat warmers. Hardly a problem though. 'Experience Amazing' has been a true marketing slogan, as it really is amazing. Although I prefer a Lexus RX ( SUV) this car is so great, I cannot see giving it up.

Smoothest, Most Comfortable Car I've Ever OwnedAwesome Car, incredible Lexus build quality that has held up for years. Seats are super comfortable, very quiet car on the interstate. Silky smooth inline-6 engine (they literally don't build them like this any more!) Automatic transmission is bulletproof. RWD makes for a sporty feel (yes even in a Lexus!) Build quality is great. No dash cracks, great leather, very solid feeling car.

My First Lexus.I bought this car used and I was immediately impressed with the quality and craftsmanship. I work on my own vehicles and can, without a doubt, support that claim. We used this car primarily for long treks across the US to visit family. It was a very comfortable ride and the stress of a long trip was greatly reduced knowing we were in a reliable, well built car. Once you go Toyota/Lexus, you never go back.

The Vehicle has met or exceeded my expectations in all catagories but I just wish the car were a little more sporty. All in all I'm very please with my purchase and if things stay the way they are will probably stay a loyal Lexus Customer!!!

It never gets oldThis car at first seemed plain in comparision to my previosu Mercedes and BMW. But as I have owned it for a couple of years now it has showed it is more reliable and more comfortable then either of the european models. I have zero complaints and will buy another when I am done with this one. If it ever seems to start wearing out that is.
