The Good
The 2006 Lexus GS 300 boasts impressive reliability and a comfortable, luxurious interior. Performance is smooth and refined, appealing to those seeking a relaxed driving experience. Its elegant design provides a sense of prestige, satisfying emotional desires, while its proven dependability and reasonable running costs offer practical benefits. Fuel efficiency is decent for its class.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2006 Lexus GS 300 include potential issues with the navigation system, and some reports of excessive oil consumption on higher-mileage examples. The relatively modest horsepower output compared to some competitors might also be a drawback for buyers prioritizing outright acceleration. Check for proper maintenance records and signs of oil leaks during inspection.

What Problems Does the 2006 Lexus GS 300 Have?
While Lexus has a good reputation for reliability, the 2006 GS 300 is not immune to age-related issues. Check for recalls related to fuel pumps or other safety components via the NHTSA website using the VIN. Owners have also reported issues with the dashboard cracking in some instances. Early model years of this generation GS might exhibit more frequent instances of these problems compared to later years. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and fluid flushes, can mitigate some of these long-term reliability concerns.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were relatively basic compared to modern cars. Standard safety features included antilock brakes (ABS), traction control (TRAC), vehicle stability control (VSC), and numerous airbags (front, side, and curtain airbags). Optional features included adaptive headlights (HID) that swiveled with the steering wheel. Park assist was also an available option, which aided in parking maneuvers.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also provided crash-test ratings. These ratings can be found through online searches using the specific model year. Keep in mind safety standards have evolved since 2006, so while it was considered safe then, it may not have the same level of protection as newer vehicles. No blind spot monitoring or lane departure warning systems were available in 2006.

How Does the 2006 Lexus GS 300 Compare to Other Sedan?
Alternatives to the GS 300 include the Acura TL (for value and reliability), the Infiniti M35 (for a sportier driving experience), or a newer, slightly used Lexus ES 350 (for updated technology and similar comfort). If performance is a top priority, the BMW 5 Series is a better choice, but be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs.

Had high hopes for this car but from day 1 it had issues.Had high hopes for this car but from day 1 it had issues. Bought it used with 81k miles and I had bad bearings, oil consumption (a lot of oil) and a bad transmission. Did all the services and still got a bad transmission. Had the ECM replaced and Cats are about to need replacing. Kept getting the check engine light that the evap was not up to par.

Not worth the moneyBurns oil a lot. Oil constantly leaks even after I paid over $2k to have it repaired! This car has less than 140,000 miles. The only problem I've had is the oil & lights constantly blew out until I paid $750 for used lights.

Car been a nightmare since I purchased it....Great looking car... BUT, the engine drinks oil so fast I have to keep oil in the trunk. Plus, check engine light every 4 months comes on and back into the shop. I done changed fuel injections, knock sensor, etc. Have experience Hesitations and misfiring... I don't know what else to do, I spent more on repairs....

Not the best from LexusThe car burns oil excessively and previous owner did not have piston rings changed with the service bulletin, which may have helped with the issue. Expensive to repair with many sensors. Expected general part wear to last longer for a "Toyota."
