The Good
The 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer offered a strong inline-6 engine delivering good performance. It was relatively comfortable for a body-on-frame SUV. For practical buyers, it provided decent towing capability and interior space. Emotionally, it presented a rugged, capable image and a comfortable ride for families.
The Bad
Common weaknesses of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer include potential issues with the HVAC system, particularly the mode actuator. What Problems Does the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer Have?
There were several recalls for the 2004 Trailblazer, including issues related to the fuel system, brake lights, and potential airbag deployment problems. These recalls should be checked and addressed if purchasing a used model.
Long-term reliability concerns include engine issues such as oil consumption and potential head gasket failures at very high mileage. The electrical system can also experience glitches over time. The 2004 model year doesn't have significantly different issues compared to other years in the first generation, but it's crucial to have any potential vehicle inspected before purchase.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags and available side airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were also standard. OnStar was available as an option, providing emergency assistance and remote services.
In terms of crash-test ratings, the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer generally performed well in government crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it generally good ratings in frontal and side-impact tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also provided ratings, which should be checked for specific test results. It's important to note that crash test standards have evolved significantly since 2004, so these ratings should be considered in context.
Optional features included things like a sunroof, heated seats, and a navigation system (relatively rudimentary by today's standards). Overall, the Trailblazer focused more on utility and space than cutting-edge technology.

How Does the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?
Reliability is where the Trailblazer often fell short compared to the Toyota 4Runner, which had a better reputation for long-term dependability. The Ford Explorer, while popular, also had its share of reliability issues. The Jeep Grand Cherokee offered more off-road capability but could also be less reliable.
In terms of price, the Trailblazer was generally competitive when new. On the used market, it often represents a good value due to depreciation. However, considering long-term reliability and potential repair costs, a Toyota 4Runner (if within budget) might be a better alternative for someone prioritizing dependability. The Nissan Pathfinder also offers a similar blend of features and reliability, and is worth considering. Ultimately, choosing a 2004 Trailblazer means accepting potentially higher maintenance costs in exchange for a lower initial purchase price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

Safe , reliable and durable from the beginning!Great SUV overall, nicely designed especially the 2-tone exterior color; straight-forward interior with durable materials strewn throughout the cabin. Straight 6 cyl is easily one of GMs best, transmission is not far behind. Safety is the upmost importance: after being t-boned at high speed (55+mph) by a drunk driver on the passenger door; the passenger walked away with only superficial injuries. The offensive vehicle that struck us was a midsized sedan that was completely obliterated from the firewall/ door hinge pillar forward, the engine was in 1 piece about 30 feet from where the sedan rested after impact. Took 6 weeks of repairs ($6k) than SUV was back on the road blazin' Trails again!

Big, tall, safe, dependable SUVOwned my '04 LT for the last 14 years, 130K mi, second owner. Other than the usual maintenance I had to replace: leaking variable valve timing solenoid, leaking fuel pressure regulator, climate control door actuators, ac compressor. Not bad, nothing major, the first 2 items an owner can do himself at very low cost. I like the SUV a lot since it's tall, wide, heavy, thick doors, safe. I get 16mpg city, 22 hwy - typical for all 6 cyl SUV and fine with me to have the comfort and safety. Toyota sedan came through red light n hit me in front R corner as I was turning L onto the road, felt less than a bumper car bump. I drove away, she was towed away.

Drives nice but has issuesI loved driving this for the most part but things after thing kept going wrong. My speedometer stopped working along with my gas gage. Luckily my gas light still worked. I had issues with power steering as well. While I enjoyed the comfort of this vehicle I ultimately had to get rid of it because the issues were greater than what it was worth.

Please help Γ°ΕΈΛΒ°I purchased my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer in August and absolutely loved it. All of a sudden it went completely dead on me. I put in a new battery and had mechanic put it on the machine to tell you whatβs wrong, but nothing came up Γ°ΕΈΛΒ°. Iβm wondering if anyone has had this problem and can please suggest to me something that I may be missing. Iβm just heartbroken over this. I need my vehicle to get back and forth to chemotherapy so again, if anyone can help me, I would very much appreciate it.

Great daily 4x4!The Chevy Trailblazer truly fits any lifestyle. In fact its built to accomodate any need from towing to a family day out, road trip or daily commute. This midsized SUV is not only comfortable with a convienent design for both driver and passangers though it is sleek and stylish. Overall this is one of the most reliable vehicles Ive ever owned and I would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.I have enjoyed my SUV since I bought it new in 2004, I decided to go back to a car since I don't need all the extra room. You can't go wrong in purchasing this vehicle.

Never again...I overpaid for this pc of crap, but trans brakes electrical, basically if /when it hits 100k--plan on replacing EVERYTHING. Every turn signal, brake light, headlight, stereo quit, etc. 4wd was best feature--Never got stuck in Mn winter! 10 mpg on a good day, not comfy at all, etc...
