The Good
The 2012 Toyota Yaris offers exceptional reliability and fuel efficiency, appealing to practical buyers. Its compact size makes it easy to maneuver and park in urban environments. While not luxurious, it provides adequate comfort for daily commutes. The Yaris presents a strong value proposition, being affordable to purchase and maintain. Its cheerful design might emotionally attract some buyers seeking a simple and dependable car.
The Bad
The 2012 Toyota Yaris's weaknesses include its somewhat underpowered engine, resulting in slow acceleration. The interior materials can feel cheap and the road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds. The base L trim lacks some desirable features. What Problems Does the 2012 Toyota Yaris Have?
Regarding recalls, it's important to check the vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA website to see if any recalls apply. Potential recall issues (though not necessarily specific to the 2012 model year) could involve airbag inflators. Long-term reliability concerns generally revolve around normal wear and tear items such as brakes, suspension components, and the exhaust system. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt use. Overall, the Yaris benefits from Toyota's reputation for reliability, but preventative maintenance is vital to avoid potential issues. Checking the vehicle's history and maintenance records before purchasing is strongly advised.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include front airbags, side airbags, and knee airbags for the driver and front passenger.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be researched specifically for the 2012 model year on their respective websites. Generally, the Yaris performed reasonably well in crash tests for a subcompact car, but safety standards have evolved since then. While not offering cutting-edge technology, the 2012 Yaris provided adequate safety features for its class and era. Keep in mind that active safety features like automatic emergency braking were not available.

How Does the 2012 Toyota Yaris Compare to Other Sedan?
Regarding features, the Yaris was generally less well-equipped than its competitors, especially in the base trim. However, the Yaris consistently outperformed most rivals in reliability. Price-wise, the Yaris was competitive, often being one of the more affordable options.
Alternatives to consider include the Honda Fit, which offers superior versatility and a more powerful engine, though at a higher price point. The Ford Fiesta provides a more fun-to-drive experience. If space is a priority, the Nissan Versa is a good choice. While the Yaris excels in reliability and affordability, buyers prioritizing performance or features may find other options more appealing.

Better Ride than Santa's Reindeers.2012 Toyota Yaris. 160K. Change oil at 3K. Bought 2 tires, 2 wipers past 5 years. That's it. Air in tires is a rarity. Mechanical miracle. Great mileage. Oh, i forgot. Once had to tighten fan belt.

Very reliable, good mileage.I love this car. in 20 16 I found it on Craig's list, used, 2012, 24,000 miles. I never cared for Toyota but my sister has a friend that has one and loves it. My Hyundai was totaled and I needed a car right away. Best car I ever had and I've had many, mostly Fords. I never had any issues with it, keep it serviced though. So why did Geico raise my insurance premium? The reason I was told is Yaris is not a good enough car, too many problems and hard to get replacement parts and 2012 year is considered too old. I now only have 34,939 miles on it. I had other cars insured by Geico. This doesn't make sense.

Super little carBought my Yaris when it was 8 months old it’s just gone over 51k in its 8 years. Love my super special Yaris with its leather interior, mag wheels, tinted windows and special paint job. Can’t see myself changing any time soon.

If you can find one used, don't hesitate.I've driven Toyotas since 1971. LOVE THEM. My Tercel was incredible. But then I bought a Yaris and it was even better (except it has an odd manual clutch, and I've never gotten used to it) Otherwise, I'm a Toyota guy. Now I want to replace my Yaris, only because I want a different car. Looked at the Carolla, and HATE the front grill. All the other Toyotas also have an ugly front grill,. They make the car look ANGRY. So I've decided to get a Subaru. First NON-Toyota in 49 years, but I just can't stand the Toyota grill. But the Yaris is a very TIGHT car, well-designed and well constructed. I got over 100 thousand miles on the original clutch and on the original brakes, and neither is showing any signs of failure. The MPG is great. I get 43.6 on the highway at 65 MPG, and around 42 in the city. Toyota: Clean up the front end, and I'll be back. Until then, it was GREAT knowing you.

A good compact carVery modern dash but some analogue remains. Includes blue tooth for phone, satellite capable, + cd. Comfortable but not special inside, child seat ready. Very small hatch storage area. Mediocre mileage, but good in snow, good commuting car, ok on highway, parks easy. Exterior plastic F/R bumpers are kind of annoying, they pull loose and create small ground clearances. Struggle to see out the back window, so it has blind spots. A couple of unexpected failures - the front wiper, and one window. Really I like the sedan model better.

Reliable CarReliable, comfortable. Although small, feels surprisingly big inside. Feels safe and steady. Never had any problems with it, which is what is most important for me in a car.

Economical and reliableSo far after a month of ownership it has exceeded my expectations as far as fuel efficiency. City mileage is 33-37 and highway mileage is 36-38 mpg. So far I am very pleased with this vehicle. I plan on keeping it for 6-10 years or more.

Great commuter carThis car was everything I was looking for, for commuting longer distances to work. Great gas mileage and comfortable. The price point was great. I know a few other people that have the same car in different model years with 200,00+ miles that are still going strong.

Just what I was looking forThis car meets my needs. It is affordable, has good gas mileage and has enough room for myself and family. I was looking for a used car, with low mileage, that was well taken care of and I found it!
