What Problems Does the 2019 Tesla Model X Have?

The 2019 Tesla Model X has been subject to several recalls and has known reliability concerns. Frequently reported problems include issues with the falcon-wing doors, which can malfunction or fail to open/close properly. The MCU (Media Control Unit) failure, leading to loss of the touchscreen display, climate controls, and other functions, is a significant concern. Suspension problems, particularly air suspension failures, have also been reported.
Recalls for the 2019 model year have included issues with the seat belts, improperly secured airbags, and problems with the power steering assist. Owners have also reported concerns about build quality, including panel gaps, paint issues, and interior trim problems. Long-term reliability concerns center around the battery pack's degradation over time and the cost of battery replacement. It's crucial to check the vehicle's history for completed recall repairs and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified Tesla technician to identify any potential issues.

How long will the 2019 Tesla Model X last?

Based on owner data and typical maintenance habits, a 2019 Tesla Model X can be expected to last for 200,000 miles or 10-12 years. Long-term durability is generally good regarding the powertrain (battery and motors), provided proper charging habits are followed. However, weaknesses include potential battery degradation, air suspension issues, and electronic component failures, especially concerning the MCU. Regular maintenance, including tire rotations, brake fluid checks, and software updates, is crucial for maximizing longevity. Avoiding frequent fast charging and keeping the battery within the recommended charge range can help prolong battery life.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Tesla Model X boasts impressive built-in tech. A 17-inch touchscreen controls most vehicle functions, including navigation, media, and climate. Entertainment features include streaming services (Netflix, YouTube) and games (Tesla Arcade). Standard driver-assistance features include Autopilot (adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist), automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.
Optional features include Full Self-Driving Capability, which adds features like automatic lane changes, automatic parking, and traffic light/stop sign control. Safety features include a reinforced battery pack, crumple zones, and multiple airbags. The Model X received high safety ratings from NHTSA (5-star overall) and IIHS, though specific reports might vary. It includes side impact beams, a backup camera, stability control, and traction control. Further enhancing safety are features like child safety locks and four-wheel disc brakes. The technological advancements and safety features made it an attractive option.

2019 Tesla Model X Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Tesla Model X ranged from approximately $88,000 to $130,000, depending on the trim and options. As of late 2023/early 2024, used market prices typically range from $50,000 to $80,000, depending on mileage, condition, and features. Depreciation has been significant but is influenced by battery health, mileage, and overall condition. Factors affecting resale value include the availability of Full Self-Driving Capability, battery warranty remaining, and the overall demand for electric vehicles. Tesla's reputation and brand image also play a role in maintaining relatively strong resale values compared to some other EVs.

2019 Tesla Model X Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Tesla Model X is generally considered costly to own. Insurance rates tend to be higher than average due to the vehicle's high value and complex technology. Fuel costs (electricity) are significantly lower than gasoline, but electricity prices vary. Maintenance is relatively low, with fewer moving parts than an internal combustion engine vehicle. However, repairs can be expensive due to specialized parts and labor. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on battery health and the need for eventual battery replacement, which can be a substantial expense.

2019 Tesla Model X Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Tesla Model X is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Tesla Model X Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2019 Tesla Model X competes with other luxury SUVs, including the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-PACE, and BMW iX (though the iX is a newer model). The Model X often wins in performance, especially acceleration, and offers a more extensive Supercharger network. However, rivals may offer superior build quality and ride comfort. In terms of features, the Tesla has a unique and advanced infotainment system, but some competitors have more traditional luxury features and materials. Reliability is where the Model X struggles compared to Audi and BMW. Price-wise, the Model X is generally competitive, but the high cost of options can quickly increase the price.
Similar alternatives include the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV (newer model) and Rivian R1S. If reliability is a primary concern, the Audi e-tron could be a better choice. If you prefer a more traditional luxury experience, the BMW iX or Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV might be preferable. The Rivian R1S offers a more rugged and off-road-capable alternative.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Tesla Model X a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2019 Tesla Model X is ideal for tech-savvy buyers who prioritize performance, electric driving, and distinctive styling. It's worth buying if you're comfortable with potential reliability issues and higher repair costs. A used Model X can be a good value, but a thorough inspection and review of the service history are crucial. Consider models with remaining battery warranty. The Long Range trim offers a good balance of range and performance. If budget allows, a newer Tesla Model X might address some of the reliability concerns of the 2019 model. However, the 2019 remains an appealing choice for those seeking a unique and technologically advanced electric SUV.

Don’t believe the FUD. BEST car out there

Best car in its class. A lot of people who don’t know or never experienced a Tesla will create so many false narratives due to their own ignorance. Tesla are the safest cars hands down especially with autopilot engaged. They also have very little maintenance because they do not have all the traditional components as an ICE vehicle. Upfronted price is steep and the range of this vehicle especially can be further but I definitely recommend this car to anyone in the market.

Complaining equals no results.

Fast Fast Fast CAR! Anyone who has ever had one will tell you it's very difficult to drive another car after this. Anyone complaining doesn't have the money to afford this and isnt realistic when it comes to luxury cars. Expensive cars are expensive. Cheap cars are cheap. Pick your problems. No such thing as a perfect vehicle.

Fastest SUV ever with 0 maintenance

You’ll forget about your childhood dream car once you get behind the wheel. 0-60 in just 3.9 seconds (curb weight ~5700lbs) No cost of ownership as compare to other $90k SUV after 12k miles.

Luxury car

After driving the Pilot, Ridgeline, Highlander, Santa Fe, and several others, the Tesla model X was by far the best value for my money. It is solidly built, quiet, and smooth. The ride is like a heaven and it handles almost like a SUV. It's just the right size, has very comfortable seats and is loaded with technology! On my first 500+ mile trip, I averaged 30$ in charge. If you're looking for a new crossover in this segment, put this one on your short list to test drive.

Unreliable and NOT for family

Since its release, I started noticing more problems with the car, everytime I drove it. It made me especially worried after seeing so many people die from Teslas, more than any other car. I value safety over this garbage making strange noises at times that is bothersome. Cars can be replaced but life cannot be. Stay safe. Dont purchase. Dont risk the cheap batteries exploding and bursting up in flames. Its not worth it
