Analysis
What Problems Does the 2002 Dodge Stratus Have?
Rust can be a significant concern, especially in regions where road salt is used during the winter. The undercarriage and body panels are susceptible to corrosion. Oil leaks, particularly from the valve cover gaskets and rear main seal, are frequently observed.
There have been recalls for the 2002 Dodge Stratus, typically related to safety concerns such as airbag deployment or brake system issues. Check the NHTSA website for specific recall information related to the VIN of any prospective purchase.
Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the aforementioned issues. Proper maintenance and timely repairs are crucial to extending the lifespan of the vehicle. However, even with diligent care, some of these problems may still arise due to the inherent design or manufacturing limitations.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were often optional, and cruise control was available on higher trims like the SXT and R/T. Power windows and locks were standard on most models.
Safety features included front airbags as standard equipment. Side airbags were often optional. As mentioned previously, ABS was an option that improved braking performance in emergency situations.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific safety performance details. These ratings can vary depending on the body style (sedan vs. coupe) and the specific tests performed. It's advisable to check these ratings on the official NHTSA and IIHS websites for accurate information. The 2002 Stratus generally received acceptable, but not outstanding, safety scores for its class at the time. Compared to modern vehicles, its safety features are significantly less advanced.

How Does the 2002 Dodge Stratus Compare to Other Vehicle?
Reliability is where the Stratus falls short compared to the Camry, Accord, and Altima, which have consistently higher reliability ratings. The Taurus was perhaps a closer competitor in terms of reliability, but even it often outperformed the Stratus.
Price was a strong point for the Stratus when new, often undercutting its rivals. However, the lower resale value and potentially higher repair costs can offset this initial advantage in the long run.
Alternatives to the 2002 Dodge Stratus include the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima, particularly if reliability and long-term ownership costs are a priority. A Ford Taurus could be considered as a similar alternative, but the Japanese models generally offer a better overall ownership experience. A Mazda 6 from a similar era might also be a sportier and more reliable alternative.

Final Verdict: Is the 2002 Dodge Stratus a Good Vehicle?

Reliable, fun and cheapI have a 2002 dodge stratus RT manual coupe, it's awesome 212k miles still going strong, for only having 200 hp it moves, when you want it to go it goes. Love this car and haven't had any mechanical problems, they're hard to find, but if you do for the right price, no reason you shouldn't check it out.

unique and distinctive styling.great everyday driver. good on gas, easy to drive when you get used to it. nice sound system. I think it's styling is so unique. Kind of looks like a Maserati from the front. The women at work think it's an exotic sports car. Passenger compartment gets kind of hot on your feet even with a/c on full. I will keep it running and maintained as long as I can.

Very good car.I have the 2 door coupe with the 5 speed manual transmission. Bought this car new. Have had a few issues with the driver?s door hinge. Very reliable car but can be difficult and costly to find parts and sensors. The senosors start to go bad and don?t appear to affect the performance of the car but if you live in a state that requires emissions testing it will not pass. The sensors are crazy expensive.
