The Good
The 2003 CL-Class offers potent V8 and V12 engine options delivering exhilarating performance, appealing to emotional buyers. Its luxurious interior and comfortable ride cater to those seeking refinement. While not known for exceptional reliability, properly maintained models can provide a satisfying ownership experience. However, its advanced features may incur higher repair costs, impacting long-term value.
The Bad
The 2003 CL-Class is known for potential issues with its complex electronics, particularly the Active Body Control (ABC) suspension system, which can be expensive to repair. Oil leaks are common, as are issues with the climate control system. Prospective buyers should thoroughly inspect the car's service history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified Mercedes-Benz mechanic.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2003 CL-Class have addressed issues like potential fuel leakage and problems with the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Owners should verify that all recall work has been completed.
Long-term reliability concerns stem primarily from the car's complex systems and the age of the components. Rubber seals and hoses degrade over time, leading to leaks and failures. The electronic control units (ECUs) can also become problematic with age. Model year variations don't significantly alter the core reliability issues, although later years in the C215 generation may have benefited from some minor improvements. Potential buyers should prioritize vehicles with a documented history of meticulous maintenance.
How long will the 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were also notable, including cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and parktronic sensors (optional). Safety features comprised anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability program (ESP), traction control, and multiple airbags. The Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, while prone to issues, enhanced handling and stability.
Optional features included Distronic adaptive cruise control, keyless entry/start, and upgraded leather upholstery.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS are limited for this specific model year, but the structurally similar S-Class (W220) of the same era generally received good ratings for frontal and side impacts. However, it's important to remember that safety standards have evolved significantly since 2003.

How Does the 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Compare to Other Coupe?
The BMW 8 Series, while stylish, suffers from similar reliability concerns as the CL-Class. The Jaguar XK8 offers a blend of luxury and performance but may also have higher maintenance costs compared to the Lexus.
For buyers prioritizing reliability and lower running costs, the Lexus SC430 is a strong alternative. If performance is paramount and maintenance costs are less of a concern, the CL55 AMG remains a compelling choice. Similar alternatives include newer models of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, which offer improved reliability and updated technology, albeit at a higher price point.

Avoid at all cost.Avoid at all cost.. believe me I owned one that I cherished dearly but constant headaches with the hydraulic system..Extremely expensive to fix.. I sold mine for $500 cash.. still parked at the dealer.. cause no one wants to go to that maintenance nightmare.. beautiful car though..you are being warned..go for an airmatic system when buying a Benz..

The CL 55 AMG is the best car I have ever ownedThe 2003 Mercedes Benz CL 55 AMG is without a doubt the finest car I have ever driven. The fact that I own one is just the icing on top of the cake. I have driven some of the finest cars ever built including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and of course, Mercedes Benz. In addition to this CL 55 AMG, I also have a CLK 550 cabriolet. In my mind the CL 55 AMG is the finest car I have ever driven. It has the right combination of luxury and sportiness that I find lacking in every other car in this spectrum. If I want to drive it hard, through some twisting turns, it responds beautifully. If I want to go fast, in a straight line, it handles that with ease. And if I choose to go down the freeway relaxing at 80 mph, it does that with equal aplomb. Overall, the car is simply everything I could want in a car, without the pain of spending the original sticker price of $124,000.

unbelievable carI purchased a CL55 AMG in October 2016. It only has 69,000 miles looks and drives like no other car. The car is solid and rides as smooth as anything I have driven. The only problem so far is the check engine light comes on but is related to a gas sensor, it goes off when I fill the tank up so no big deal. This car is a a rocket and looks great, comments have been exceptional. Truly a fun car to drive and i love the design. I plan on keeping this one for a long time.

UNBELIEVABLE MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ive had this car for 3 years now, it hasnt had any issues and runs like a dream! the speed of this car (especially considering the size) is astounding! the v12 is smooth as glass on the highway but press that gas pedal and you fly like a rocket! the features are great and more advanced still than most cars on the road today even. I have still yet to find fault with it!
