The Good
The 2007 CL-Class offers impressive performance with powerful engines, appealing to those seeking driving thrills. Its luxurious interior and comfortable ride cater to those prioritizing comfort. While not exceptionally fuel-efficient, it provides a status symbol and a sense of exclusivity. The design is undeniably elegant, and despite some reliability concerns, well-maintained examples offer reasonable value in the used market.
The Bad
The 2007 CL-Class can suffer from air suspension issues, leading to costly repairs. Electrical problems are also a concern, impacting various systems. High maintenance costs are typical for a luxury vehicle of this age, especially with complex systems like Active Body Control (ABC). Potential buyers should be wary of deferred maintenance and ensure a thorough pre-purchase inspection.

What Problems Does the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2007 CL-Class are relatively infrequent, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. Some potential recalls might relate to fuel system components or airbag systems, depending on the specific vehicle.
Long-term reliability is a concern, as these vehicles are now over 15 years old. The complex systems and aging components can lead to increased maintenance costs. Oil leaks, transmission issues, and problems with the climate control system are also reported. Specifically, the CL600 and AMG models, with their more powerful engines and intricate systems, tend to have higher maintenance costs and a greater likelihood of problems compared to the CL550. Proper maintenance records are essential when considering purchasing a 2007 CL-Class, and a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified Mercedes-Benz mechanic is highly recommended.
How long will the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features were comprehensive, including multiple airbags (front, side, and curtain), anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), and traction control. The Active Body Control (ABC) suspension also contributed to safety by enhancing stability and handling. Optional safety features included blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist.
The CL-Class offered a sophisticated pre-safe system, which could detect imminent collisions and prepare the vehicle by tightening seatbelts, adjusting seats, and closing windows. For the U.S. market, the 2007 CL-Class was not specifically crash-tested by the IIHS or NHTSA. However, the vehicle was built with very high safety standards with features such as pre-tensioning seatbelts, and advanced airbags. While dated by modern standards, the 2007 CL-Class offered a solid array of tech and safety features when new.

How Does the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Compare to Other Sedan?
Reliability is where the CL-Class falters compared to some rivals. The Lexus SC 430 is known for its superior reliability and lower maintenance costs. The BMW 6 Series can also be prone to electrical issues, but the Jaguar XKR had its own set of unique problems. In terms of used market price, the CL-Class is often similarly priced to the BMW 6 Series, making them comparable options for buyers seeking a luxury coupe at a lower price point.
Alternatives to the 2007 CL-Class include the Lexus SC 430 for those prioritizing reliability and lower running costs, or a newer BMW 6 Series (if budget allows) for a more modern driving experience and features. The Jaguar XKR presents a similar blend of performance and luxury, but it also comes with potential reliability concerns. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities and budget.

stable, comfy cruiser - great styleGreat driver's car. Excellent handling. 145,000 miles. Expensive new, but still a great pleasure. Smooth on the freeways, like a big cat on the curves. Gets great mileage with a powerful engine. Driving it, it doesn't feel like the big, heavy car it is. Just great engineering, and MPG that makes you wonder why the US was so far behind in engine efficiency.

Great PurchaseThis car is fantastic! Luxury, speed and style. My 2007 looks like a 2012 unless you are an enthusiast (like me) and know what minor, and I mean minor changes that were made in 2011. I own the same great car as the 2012 for a lot less money and it turns heads whenever I drive it!
