The Good

What Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Spark Have?

The 2019 Chevrolet Spark has had a few reported problems and recalls, though it's generally considered a reliable car. Some owners have reported issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT), including hesitation and shuddering. This can sometimes be addressed with a software update or, in more severe cases, require transmission replacement. The manual transmission clutches have also been known to fail prematurely.

Common issues include:
  • CVT Transmission Problems: Hesitation, jerking, or failure.
  • Clutch Wear (Manual Transmission): Premature clutch failure is reported.
  • Electrical Issues: Some owners report issues with the infotainment system or other electrical components.

Recalls for the 2019 Spark have been relatively minor, focusing on issues like incorrect tire pressure information on the tire placard. It's crucial to check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website for the latest recall information related to specific VINs.
Long-term reliability is generally good, but diligent maintenance is key. Regular oil changes, transmission fluid checks, and addressing any unusual noises or performance issues promptly can help extend the life of the Spark.

How long will the 2019 Chevrolet Spark last?

With good maintenance habits, a 2019 Chevrolet Spark can easily reach 150,000 miles or more. Years of service can extend beyond 10 years with proper care. Long-term durability hinges on timely oil changes, coolant flushes, and transmission servicing, especially for CVT-equipped models. Weaknesses over time often relate to the aforementioned transmission issues and potential wear of suspension components due to rough roads. Keeping up with maintenance is paramount.

The car is good for what it is but it being a Chevy and not thought of with reliability in mind it's not a good money saving car except for gas.

I absolutely love it!! It’s my dream car, it’s the best little car that was made just for me, it’s small and affordable. Great for a 1st car for anyone.
Proudmom17
This car meets all my needs. It is small but has plenty of leg room for front and back passengers, and a convenient little cargo area in the hatch. I dont need to haul anything but an occasional passenger and groceries so it suits me just fine. I absolutely love the color, passion fruit. The styling was revamped for 2019 models and it is more sporty and sophisticated than previous models. I wouldn't want to go back to a full size vehicle now because of the ease of handling and maneuverability and the super low cost of fuel used by this 35 mpg little champ!

No leg room in the back. No trunk space. one cup holder in the back. No room for a family of 4. No power anything. could get a car of a lawn for cheaper and have a better quality.

2019 Chevrolet Spark Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Chevrolet Spark is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Hatchback with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Chevrolet Spark Compare to Other Hatchback?

The 2019 Chevrolet Spark competes with vehicles like the Mitsubishi Mirage and Kia Rio. The Spark offers similar fuel economy to the Mirage but feels more refined. Compared to the Rio, the Spark is smaller and less powerful, but generally more affordable.

  • Performance: The Rio offers more horsepower, making it better suited for highway driving.
  • Features: The Spark's infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a strong selling point compared to some rivals' basic systems.
  • Reliability: All three cars have reasonably good reliability records, but the Spark’s potential CVT issues should be considered.
  • Price: The Spark is often the most affordable option, making it attractive for budget buyers.

Alternatives include the used Honda Fit, which offers significantly more cargo space and a more powerful engine, albeit at a potentially higher price point. If cargo space and power are priorities, the Fit is a better alternative. If pure affordability and city maneuverability are key, the Spark holds its own.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Chevrolet Spark a Good Hatchback?

The 2019 Chevrolet Spark is ideal for city dwellers, first-time car buyers, or anyone seeking affordable and efficient transportation. It's worth buying, especially as a used car, if you prioritize fuel economy, easy parking, and a low purchase price. Consider higher trims like the 1LT or ACTIV for added features like power windows and a more stylish appearance. Be mindful of potential CVT issues, and thoroughly inspect any used Spark before purchasing. If you need more space or power, consider alternatives, but for basic, budget-friendly transportation, the Spark is a solid choice.

I have TWO!!

There is NOTHING I don't like about my Spark ... that's not to say that there couldn't be some improvements ... but it is EVERYTHING I want in a car in 2022. I bought mine back in 2018 ... love the roll up windows (power windows break over time and cost money), love the REAL ignition key, love the manual transmission (had to search high and low - but that's okay I found it), love the compact size, the Apple Car Play, the comfort - - - but MORE THAN ANYTHING, in this world of $5 gas ... I can't tell you how happy I am with the mileage. I AVERAGE over 38 mpg. That means for the price of gas, my expenditures are the same as a schmo with a car that gets 19 mpg back when gas was 2.50! I like it so much that I bought my son a brand new 2021 Spark outfitted the same way. I was devastated to hear that GM will no longer sell them after 2022.

Best quality and value small commuter and city car

This is my second Spark. It is durable, reliable, and very well designed and built. It is as fun to drive as a Mini but has a better drivers position and supportive seat. I’ve been impressed with this car and it’s related parentage models. Great value. Durable! Reliable. Solid small car.

I love owning and driving this Chevy spark.

The car is perfectly beautiful and fun to drive. It has no issues ice cold ac Bluetooth WiFi and backup camera. It’s even quite roomy and is great on gas 39-40 mpg. It has only 12,000 miles and will be a good transportation car to and from work or school and for long distance trips. I’m selling it because I’m the only person who can drive manual transmission and I’ll trade for or buy another with an automatic transmission.

Disappointment

Bought this car counting on Chevy's name and reliability to carry through, but it's been a bit of an issue from day one. Horrible acceleration, a little overpriced, REALLY rough on any potholes or road blemishes (like hitting a brick). We were in a minor accident, as well, and it is just not the same. Brakes having all kinds of issues. Just not the car I thought it would be.

A whole lot in a small package!

The best car for under $15000! You will not find a better value. Chevy has certainly cornered the market in this vehicle segment. So many features for so little money.

The exact car I wanted, everything a car should be

I recently bought a 2020 spark, which is exactly like the 2019 models. I love it! I bought the base model so it comes with window cranks ,but I’ve actually always liked those! It drives so smooth and it’s also a really nice looking car!
